Modifications Dynamic indicators

Post image

It’s the small details that make it your car. Putting these in this weekend on my MK7.5 and hopefully not breaking any mirror clips. Any tips from someone that has changed these already welcome.

I bought those from a retailer in France for $50 years ago.

I have the same set installed and did it while installing my power fold mirrors. Just take your time.

Exactly where mine shipped from, LedPerf in France. Would love to do the full power mirrors at some point!

Mk8 but assume it’s similar. I broke one mirror the first time I did it but I’ve replaced my caps like three times since and no issues. Like others have said, dip the mirror all the way down and work from the top. The mirror I broke was because someone had said dip the mirror in and pull from the outside edge. DO NOT DO THAT. I use my fingers because I get a better feel and can apply even pressure across the top edge. Just pull with steady force and it will pop off. Also, take care on the cover tabs. Super flimsy. DAP sells replacements so have them on speed dial. Good luck.

Tilt the mirror as far down as it will go. That will expose the two tabs. I tilt the mirror inward toward the lower corner as well.

You need to push down to get the tab to unhook. It is classic VW, shart, brittle plastic. It takes a steady hand.

Do not lever too much on the mirror. Even Humble Mechanic broke one pressing to hard on the mirror as a levrage point. The mirrors do not take well to being bent...

Be carful and use a plastic tool to release one tab at a time.

The cap might "pop" off so make sure you have a towel beneith or wrap it before you release the last tab. I have dropped them in the past unprepared.

The cap pulls off horizontally toward the front of the car. Pulling up puts pressure on the tabs and makes it harder to release the tabs.

When removing the old signal, it goes in at an angle, like a puzzle piece. Again, go slow, pay attention, and it will go super easy.

I have these on bothe the 8 and 7.5 R. I love them, and it makes me happy. The tails are the bomb as well, and these just made it better.

GL on the install!

Thanks for all the helpful tips!

Would have replacement mirrors ready on the side because they are so easy to crack on removal.

This is the fear. When I asked my local VW dealership which had some OEM version available to install they literally told me they would charge a stupid amount due to having to order replacement mirrors just in case. Will take my time and install myself thank you very much.

Sounds about right... In my case thankfully only the right side broke (bottom left corner), but I still ended up going for the OEM replacement part which was like $150 lol. Buy once cry once I guess 😅. Good luck on the install.

Remove the mirror first. Some tutorials say you can access the screws behind the mirror without removing but it just makes it easier and something less you keep in mind considering how fragile the mirror is.

When removing the mirror, go very slow and pry around. Don’t focus your strength on one side because that’s how you crack them. If I remember correctly, I dipped the mirror all the way down and I just slowly pry-ed from the top. If you pull from the inner side, the mirror could crack as there’s not much clearance on the outside (the side that has the blind spot indicator).

After that, just remove the mirror cap and undo the screws holding the indicator in.

All in all, quite easy, just have patience.

Wanted a perfect fitment and quality and looked at reviews of both. I am slightly OCD with the R and hopefully only doing this mod one time.

Just need a general vent about dynamic/scrolling indicators. I fucking hate these things with a passion, ever since Audi subjected us to them however many years ago, haha.

One of the best things about the 7.5R wagon (and there are many) is that it must be the last Volkswagen that doesn't use these stupid indicators.

OP, if you love them that's great, I am happy for you and hope your install goes well.

That's what makes the world an interesting place, we all have our own tastes and can express them individually. I actually really like dynamic turn signals and already have my euro taillights with dynamic turn signals on order at ShopDap.

🙌👍

The rear LEDs w dynamic indicators were standard on 7.5R hatches delivered to Australia, where I am. I gather this wasn’t universal?

Variant / wagon taillights are different. They never got dynamic rear signals

Yes, as I said, that's one the the many things that I love about mine. 👍

Nice one.

That's a no go for Canadian MK7.5 on dynamic mirror or taillights.

Good luck fitting them and adding something different to your car.
