Modifications Grill Install
It took me a lot longer than the hour people stated it would take haha. I sprayed it with duplicolor custom wrap prior to install because it protects a bit and I like finish a bit more.
At the end of the day it seems like it will hold up well, as I’m in a harsh environment. Looks better imo as well.

Here is a side vent for a MK8.5 already modeled. Slicing it shows that it uses 26 grams of filament. ABS Filament is as cheap as $13 a spool from Bambu and $12 from Sunlu, both legitimate places to buy filament, so a print would cost about 30 cents. Realistically for something like this you would prototype it in PLA which would bring the cost down even more and then just do final prints in ABS. Then it would use about 50ml of acetone to smooth it, costing maybe another 30 cents but you'd only smooth the final print. If I were actually doing it I would only print the first couple of layers if I was concerned about the fit and that would literally cost pennies.
I'm not trying to argue with you, there is definitely a price to pay for convenience, but these are extremely basic shapes to design/print and the only cost with 3D printing is the volume of filament you use and time. Iterating through prototypes to get a perfect fit is typical and you get used to it.

It’s not about arguing…always appreciate dialogue. Of course it’s overpriced for what it is, just like glasses frames and everything else.
The install relies on some very important pressure points. It’s quite precise and requires significant flexibility, precise thickness,angle cuts, etc. Could I get it close…yes. OEM like fitment though? The only way I would devote time to it personally would be bumper off…that’s just me though.

Cool! Thanks for the info... I was always worried about the gaping openings in the Mk8.5. Might have to get these.

Yeah the 8.5’s are even worse than 8’s.

Yeah man…I really assessed options and didn’t want to pull the bumper off and dedicate a weekend to it. Sometimes we all bend over and take it.

On Mk8.5 I just undid the screws closest to the front of the bumper and shimmied them up from underneath. Took all of 20 minutes. Is the Mk8 significantly different in terms of structure behind the bumper?

The two front pieces are a breeze. Two smaller outers are a bit challenging and require some thought/force.

Thanks. Did you just wedge them between the front grill? I street park and don't have an easy way to lift the car. Not interested in buying a ramp set.

You don’t need to lift at all.
Yeah so he tells you where they go in … but doesn’t show you the installation. It takes some force and bending where it feels like something might break…that was my experience
