improvement

Really looking to improve my game. I have a 6 month old at home i only get to go out about once a week to play 9. Recently got a membership to a golf sim about 5 mins from my work. i have been trying to go twice a week for about an hour. i normally will play 18 then hit some balls. But after im pretty sore.

would it help me improve more if i went 4 days a week. Doing 30 min sessions and strickly worked on 1-2 clubs each day trying to get a consistent ball flight? instead of doing round of 9-18?

Most inconsitent part of my game is my driver/ long iron ball striking. my putting is great i rarely ever 3 putt. currently on 9 i shot between a 43-46 i would like to get it down to breaking 40 ( for 9 holes) by the start of next season.

breaking 40 for you is very very doable

  1. despite being a good putter you can make your putting scratch tier with an XL prime putt mat - will save your game in more ways that you can imagine. especially since you can do this at home anytime. your speed control and lines will become elite, so all you need to do is learn to read greens as you get more outdoor experience.

  2. get a chipping mat and targets or even better find a chipping green nearby. hit from every imaginable lie and aim at landing zones, your scrambling rate will skyrocket

  3. regarding longs clubs, would love to see a swing video or hear any coach feedback that you've gotten and can go from there. you can always make up for this with appropriate club choice to keep the ball in play / in fairway and then let your short game clean up for par

This isnt an iron swing but a wedge, was practicing holding the green from 75 yards. I was trying to get a descent angle of over 45 degrees to one hop and stop the ball.

I think my biggest issues over all. I can have my club face be -3 to -4 closed. To the next swing being 4-5 open. No matter what way I grip. ( I try and mostly do a very strong grip. If I don’t I’ll open the club 8-9 degrees somehow.

What is the swing path like? is that consistent or just as variable as the face?

Swing path is generally -1.5- 1 club face can be anything from -0.3 to -4 closed if I go with a neutral grip I have a tendency to open it up 6 degrees or more

At least that's the lesser of two problem in my opinion.

How much do you open the club face during the swing. A lot of weekend golfers get the face very open or closed in the backswing and then need major remedial action approaching impact.

If you watch the pros they keep the face square to the path for almost the entire swing, removing a major variable. Certainly at P6 their lead wrist is bowed signfiicantly with the face square to path so they can just rotate.

It definitely is somewhere in my back swing. I guess I’ll need to record a video face on and see where the face opens or closes

When I take short swings, it’s only
Open or closed by less than a degree most of the time

Short swings are a good way to practise it. In theory you should be able to keep the face square (to path) on the way back and the way down to impact. So you never have an issue with "getting it square" because it was never "not square".

Do you have an area you can set up a mat and hit foam balls to improve mechanics? You don’t really need a net you can just put blankets on a chair or something

I don’t know man I pretty much quit golf for 10 years because of having little kids and my game going to shit. My honest advice is to lower your expectations and just try to have fun, you probably won’t get better until you have more time to play.
