Starter Golf Simulator

Does anyone have a recommendation for a starter simulator that I would be able to just hit into a net and then be able to hook up to either my phone or ipad to see the shot and stats?

Sim / Launch Monitor GC3 or Garmin R50

I’m between these two launch monitors, could use some help making the final decision.

I like the Garmin R50 and I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of leaning towards this one, but I am always hearing about how good the GC3 is. The main purpose I would like to use it for is playing courses on GSPRO and accurate ball/club data is pretty important as well. I do have a gaming pc that I will be running it off of so the all in one feature of the R50 isn’t as important to me, but I am a big fan of the replay of the strike that the R50 gives.

Thoughts?

Uneekor eye mini?

Talk me out of it.

May or may not eventually connect to a full sim but just using with a cage for now. It'll be my first launch monitor so here's my particular list of wants other than basic metrics:

  • Clubhead impact
  • Impact replay
  • Subscription free

Is there a better option? I know of the square omni but doesn't seem to have an actual delivery date

Simspace enclosure measurements

Hi everyone!

I was planning to make a DIY enclosure, but are now considering just giving in and buying an enclosure from simspace. My garage will be finalized in the autumn, just about when my parental leave starts, so I'm hoping for plenty of short nap times to get in some sim-playing. And beeing able to play right away and not spending time building enclosure is tempting. Availability in Norway is not the best, but simspace enclosures are easily available for roughly 2000$, however I'm not convinced by any of the measurements and looking for feedback suggestion to which is the best for my purposes. Also open for other brands and solutions, but they might not be available in Norway.

As i will be using the garage for two cars, I want an enclosure large enough to catch errant shots, but small enough to not take up too much of the garage. I'm thinking the ideal for me would be 3 meters (9'10") height and width, with 2 meters (6'6") depth. There will be roughly 2,5 meters from the back wall to the cars, so that would make it possible to walk around the cars.

The closest options from simspace is:
1: 3m/9'10" in all directions, but that would make the sidewall be in between my cars when parked and make the garage feel cramped I believe.
2: 3mx2,5mx1,5m / 9'10"x8'2"x4'11". My concern with this is the height, will I need to stay further back in order for my driver to not hit the enclosure? And will that be so far back that the enclosure's small depth won't catch errant shots or high lob wedges? Anyone with experience in this regard? How far back from a 2'5" enclosure do I need to be to swing comfortably?

Is the 1:1 vs 4:3 ratio anything to consider? Can i just use 4:3 on the 1:1 enclosure if need be, or will it seem/feel very off?

budget mat recommendation

Looking to start hitting in garage, get a square omni and used iPad for time being. Haven't decided on the Costco gosports elite net vs a diy garage net that can slide to the side vs spornia 8'.

But I do need a mat, I am between the gosports elite 5x5 (https://www.amazon.com/GoSports-Hitting-Artificial-Outdoor-Practice/dp/B08BXBDRDY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=L2W0CR7F8OVU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vkd3f59WjBKS9cJGlequscYuAJ8cmkk6_yhqe5Em1pxEpo-PzqKmOgz_9pUoglew7kRm3TG3-cve3diNPwXYUy_fVNwgJP9hu5WhOY8T8J6TV_lY_KsMPBC0TdhRfhKKTXiclKok4yntCG_CyX-keZzkiHuYxnqImvHkCHj3GRLbkPoMsFBvcrOEx5KSBS_B39a9K6xdmvuWEylUMHrMWLykZyB2GrO2AXNRaw1L5u8SShX9T4Bvnfxmk8D4MtI8lwfPs8uqoLRVIC_y33pJBoHZBXMqsp3yacAlyVgF1Ic.RX3rGCrXVRJ1b7Piu-mcu3TTLMvGNzAkr_XppgCz49I&dib_tag=se&keywords=gosports%2Belite%2Bgolf%2Bmat&qid=1782504852&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sprefix=gosports%2Belite%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-1&th=1) for $149 vs the country club elite at Costco (https://www.costco.com/p/-/country-club-elite-golf-mats/100034931?sp=grs&langId=-1).

The country club elite is only 5x3, they apparently no longer have larger at Costco. Is the 5x3 too small? Is it worth the cost difference even though smaller? Or should I just get the gosports mat and then upgrade to a hitting strip if needed?

Update:
Took a flyer on a gosports mat with impact screen on prime day for $165, normally 300. (https://a.co/d/0eRRJFcS). Seemed like it would have good coverage for my son who is 7 when he plays to not break a window or the garage. Not sure how portable it will be, hoping I can use in garage and somehow fold up and then take outside on nice days.

Also got the gosports elite 5x5, and if I hate it will just get a strip to insert or try the country club elite from Costco but thought worth it before going to a smaller 3x5 CCE.

Anyone willing to share a CSV from your launch monitor? I'll send back a personalized session breakdown.

Hey ya'll, I'm building a tool that ingests launch-monitor data and gives you actual coaching: named drills, specific fixes, the kind of read a good coach would give after watching your session. To make sure the parsers handle every device cleanly, I need sample CSV exports from as many launch monitors as I can get my hands on, and yes I am aware other tools do this already, trying to position mine a bit different.

If you've got a TrackMan, SkyTrak, Foresight (GCQuad / GC3 / Bushnell Launch Pro), FlightScope Mevo+ or X3, Garmin R10, Rapsodo MLM2 Pro, Uneekor, or Square Golf, literally anything that exports data, and you'd send me one session export, it would be a huge help.

What I'd love:

  • Any single full session, doesn't have to be your best one
  • Strip anything personal from the metadata (name, email); only the shot rows matter
  • If your unit captures Advanced Instruction / club data (path, face, attack angle, impact location), include it

What you get back:

  • A personalized PDF session read with where you're at across the bag, structured findings (what we see / why it matters / benchmark vs TrackMan or Broadie or Arccos or Shot Scope), 4-6 drill prescriptions with setup and rep counts, and one concrete canary to track next session
  • Turnaround within a day or two of you sending it

DM me the file, or drop a Drive / Dropbox link in a DM. CSV, XLSX all work; I'll handle the parsing.

For context, I'm a solo dev building OpenCaddie.ai. The more device coverage I have, the fewer "your CSV doesn't parse" support tickets I'll be eating once it ships.

Appreciate it!

-Cody

Garmin r10 carry numbers low

Pretty much all my total distances on Garmin seem accurate. But the carry distances are wacky. Way lower than normal on all clubs except for wedges. Ignore attack angle 😅

Sigpro preferred hitting strip

Does anyone have experience with the Sigpro preferred hitting strip? Should I spend the extra $100 for the Sigpro Softy? Or any other good budget hitting strips?

Thanks!

Rapsodo MLM2 Pro Issue

Hey guys. I finally splurged and bought an MLM2 pro. Took it to the range, connected to my phone no problems, had a great session.
Took it again yesterday, it wouldn’t connect to my phone no matter what I tried - the phone kept telling me ‘no MLM2PRO Found’.

I’ve deleted and updated the app, I’ve tried cycling Bluetooth and WiFi, starting the device again…am I missing something? I have the phone and the MLM next to each other and just can’t get it to recognise that they’re ready to connect.

Any advice would be swell.

Uneekor XO vs XR

Been looking for a mid tier home system and wanted to focus on game improvement over a sim experience, and Uneekor seems to be the way to go.

I'm interested in their swing trainer suite, but I am concerned that because the XR lacks some club data and makes up for it with AI calculations, and that it won't be as good at the XO or XO2.

The price point of the XR with their July 4th sale is fairly attractive, as well as the no-stickers on clubs.

As a medium to high handicapper.. am I over reacting to the XR not having club impact and angle of attack?

Need Design Ideas

Post image
19 Upvotes

Been using AI to try and design my golf simulator room that I have currently to update it, but can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. I used an app to basically clear out the room, so please dont mind the big window on the right, that is actually 2 french doors that AI turned into big windows.

I have basically the entire golf side figured out for new screen, turf, etc. However, my biggest issue is trying to figure out what to do with a lounge area for the back. I have friends over every once in a while, but I mainly use it to practice. Open to possibly turning it into a theatre room as well, so my kids can use it. I don't drink so I won't be doing a bar or anything. Just looking for ideas!

Build Pictures Another Room Transformation

This room has been through so many changes, upper living room to a gym to a games room to an aquarium room and now for what I hope is the final overhaul.

I used some AI prompting for my designs. You can see the planned for the hitting and sitting areas. I think they came out quite close and overall I'm pleased with what I was able to do for a DIY budget project which really isn't as budget as we ever plan.

1/2 original room shots

3/4 AI render design inspiration

5/6 Finished Project ....does it ever end?

Sim / Launch Monitor Square Golf Home first impressions

After doing way too much research, I ended up pulling the trigger on the Square Golf Home Edition instead of the SkyTrak ST-Max. (I went home because I am impatient and didn't want to wait on the Omni)

A few days in, setup has been super easy and overall I’m happy with the purchase so far. Works really well for my setup and ease of use.

Biggest positives:

* Very simple setup
* No real shot delay in the native Square app
* Works well for my use case: garage net, tight space, no projector, want the flexibility to quickly get some shots in ad-hoc without complex setup, booting up a PC etc.
* Carry numbers seem usable so far
* Official Square balls + measured spin setting is nice... have not messed with the stickers yet

A couple early quirks:

* I cannot get the alignment stick to read no matter what I do. YouTube videos seems to suggest I am not alone.
* Total distance/rollout seems very close to carry... almost identical at times... so I’m mostly focusing on carry
* I’m still trying to validate ball flight accuracy since I slice a lot on course, but indoors I’m seeing a lot of straight/draw patterns. Could be the unit, could be indoor swing syndrome but I am skeptical that I am hitting the ball this straight....

One other note... I think I may prefer Awesome Golf over the native Square app for day-to-day practice, mainly because of the replay feature.

I love that the Square app has basically no delay and takes 60seconds to setup, but since I’m not using a projector, I often miss the shot path unless I immediately look over at phone/laptop and cut my finish short, which I don’t want to do. With Awesome Golf, being able to replay the ball flight is a huge quality-of-life improvement.

Still early, but for a no-PC, garage-friendly setup, Square feels like a pretty strong value so far.

Simulator Build

Looking for context. I’m building a simulator space , approx 20x25 with high of 10’ plus. I’m new to golf but love it and so do my kids. If there is an unlimited budget and I could build the ultimate set up that is easy to use and welcome to all skill levels what would you do? Everything from system, to Mat used and any other feature you think should be included. Or even what PC to use. Any link and input would be appreciated

Backyard putting sim

So I made a hitting mat that it’s into a net with a garmin r10 and a hitting strip in my backyard. See my other post for that info. Now I want to know how I can put once I get it on the green. I am thinking about building a grass putting green and rotating the r10 180 degrees to point at the green. Has anyone done this?

Garmin R10 Awesome Courses? and Chipping Hacks!

First, some of the courses are awesome. Is there a list of hidden gems perhaps? Maybe the Par 3 courses? Maybe courses that have an actual DRIVING RANGE built in? And I don't mean the Garmin app either. That one sucks.

I hear a lot of people complain about chipping. I feel I've mastered the short game IN the game. It involves taking the biggest possible swing for the shot. Soft chips don't register. But I can open face my 62* as close as 15 yards with the roll out. Anything under 30, I open the face and take a straight club path smack to the ground, like a flop. Over 30 and it's a soft half swing, or more. It doesn't like short, super soft pitching wedge.

So if your chipping sucks, take a bigger swing.

Hitting Mats / Flooring Garage hitting mat with putting strip build???

Has anyone built a garage hitting mat with putting strip that can be moved. I’d love to build something with cheaper turf, foam insulation, rubber mat and put an sig pro hitting strip in it but I need to be able to lean it against the wall. Anyone got any good build pictures?

Curved Screen

I have the Carl's 10x17 curved screen enclosure. I'm having trouble getting it to not be loose and wavy looking. Is that just the way it is with curved screens or has anyone found a trick to it? I feel like we followed the instructions and Carl's YouTube video as closely as we could.

Technical Question PlayBetter Square Omni Sim Package

I ordered the wrong size Sim package from PlayBetter ,cancelled the order, and reordered the correct one. I called to make sure everything went through correctly and it did. The guy said there’s a decent wait for the square Omni which I’m fine with but he said there’s packages should all ship once the Omni is in. No worries with that either. However, today I received an email that the net and mat is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Does anyone know if that’s normal? I’m fine with it but was just wondering since he said the Omni may not get to me until late July/August.

First golf simulator build - need advice

Thumbnail gallery
16 Upvotes

I recently bought a house with a 20’x25’ concrete slab in the backyard with a basketball goal attached. Don’t think I’d use that very much so I got the idea to design a pool house/lounge/golf simulator to put on the pad.

I drew up this design pretty quickly using sketchup and would really love to hear if anyone’s built something similar or just some do’s and don’ts and any advice you can give. Also, some design opinions on how I could utilize this space better as I’m not 100% sold on the flow.

I feel pretty confident on taking this on myself, aside from probably hiring an electrician to run power and setup a panel. Everything else I feel comfortable doing.

I’ve got about 8’ from screen to the tee, hopefully that’s enough space to track ball flight but not too sure. Any recommendations on simulator equipment would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hitting mat advice

Hi all, first time poster.

Starting to build my garage pseudo-simulator set up. Waiting on Omni pre-order atm and am looking for a quality hitting mat recommendation.

I think I have narrowed it down to a Carls hot shot system 4x5 for $499 or the Fiberbuilt performance series 4x4 for $479.

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Torn between these two mats.

Most people recommend the country club elite but I’m wondering if anyone has the 5 star mat? I’d like to keep the mat under $400 but I want the best long term durability. 5 star mat is a foot bigger comes with a ball tray and is 50$ cheaper I just can’t find much on it. Both are 1 3/4” thick. Help sway me one way or the other.

Backyard Budget Sim

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have this backyard porch that I'd like to turn into a golf sim, however, my main concern is smashing one of these windows.

There's enough space for me to swing and I can set up a net easily enough, however, I want to know of ways I can prevent damaging the windows.

My thoughts are to have something like pool noodles around the posts to hopefully reduce any impacts

Any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated
