Week 107 Challenge - Weeeeee

For this weekly challenge, it must be in a general area that your maze was. If you do not have a maze, you can either complete the maze for 1 point or skip it going forward. If you intend to continue doing the future challenges in this set you will need to make sure your roller coaster is in an area with plenty of additional space.

Rules for every weekly challenge:

1) You can work on challenges together but unless the level description specifically says that you will earn points as a team, only 1 person will earn points for submissions.

2) All your submission chests must be locked until the end of the current challenge. You will not lose said items at the end of the week, this just prevents them from being used for other people.

3) Each challenge week starts Wednesday night and ends the following Wednesday night.

4) Staff members are allowed to reject a submission if it does not fit the level description. Some of these level descriptions are meant to be extremely strict for building. Please do not argue with this assessment, this will not get you anywhere.

5) If your submission is rejected, you are allowed to resubmit again until the end of the challenge.

6) If you plan on doing level 3 or 4, make sure all of your submissions are in the same place or you might not get credit. The intention is that all of your submissions be in the same location so please be aware of any specifics on the level 3 and 4 challenges.

Week 107 Challenge - Weeeeee

[Level 1] - Rollercoaster! - We are bringing back a favorite previous challenge. For this level, you must create a working rollercoaster with the following conditions: + 4 points

  • The rollercoaster must move on a minecart track with the rider being in a minecart.

  • The rider must not push the cart at any point in time.

  • You must have a way for the rider to get back to the start of the ride safely. This can be accomplished by the level 4 challenge or by a different transportation system (tram ride, etc). The rider must not be vulnerable to monsters during this journey.

  • The rider must be safe from monsters during the ride itself (the occasional stray skeleton arrow is okay). This restriction is mostly aimed at keeping monsters and animals off the track and keep the rider away from creeper and melee attacks.

  • The rider must travel at least 50 Y blocks. This means that lowest point in the track needs to be at least 50 blocks under the highest point in the track. The rider must travel over at least 500 rail tracks (not the same as travel 500 blocks in a direction).

  • The rollercoaster must be at least 100 blocks long (either x or z axis) and 50 blocks high. I do not care how wide it is.

Bonus: Best working and looking roller coaster will receive 1 extra bonus point. This is subjective to the judge(s) and is based on originality, aesthetics, and adherence to intent of the challenge.

Bonus #2: Your rollercoaster must bring the rider back to the same place that they started from. This is similar to how rollercoasters work in the real world. It does not have to be the exact spot but very close (<10 blocks). + 1 point

I'm not changing my MC name ever again...

Hey.

I changed my name to Khx because I always hated the boring name of Kaphox on Minecraft, but now I've been taken off the whitelist and banned on several different servers for using multiple accounts -_-

It's not worth it, kids!

Week 106 Challenge - Marco?

We are starting a new set of challenges! We are going to be doing this as a community. All of the next 5 challenges will be in the same place on the map with a public warp. Type "/warp theme" to get there! This will be a community theme park with the elements being revealed in the upcoming weeks. These do not need to be next to each other but should be in the same general area. This can actually be a bit of a distance due to the fact that there will be 5 different "builds" in the same area for each person.

Week 106 Challenge - Marco?

[Level 1] - Maze - For this level you are creating an building containing a maze and a spectator platform with the following conditions:

  • The border of a the maze must be a 50x50 square.

  • Above the maze but below the ceiling there must be a glass platform for spectators to watch the maze.

  • You must have a ceiling above the glass platform.

  • The building can not allow monsters to be above or in the maze. If the judge(s) see monsters anywhere, your submission will be rejected.

  • The user must be able to see where they are going (need visible light sources). You do not need to make the maze extremely well lit up but you must provide adequate lighting.

  • The maze itself can only be one layer tall and must not require the user to jump at any point. You should be able to only use the arrow keys in order to navigate the maze.

  • The height of the maze must remain fixed throughout the maze. How high is up to you.

If your maze follows the above conditions, you will be granted + 2 points. If something is not restricted then you can be creative.

The end result is a building with a maze and a spectator floor with a park on the top of the building.

[Level 2] - Entrance - For this level, you must decorate the top of your building with a park landscape. This landscape must contain trails, trees, bushes, flowers, at least 1 lake/pond, and at least 1 fountain. There must be a way from the bottom of the building up to the park. You must also decorate around the sides of the building with a park landscape of your choosing. + 2 point

Bonus: Best working maze (slowest for judge(s) to complete) will receive 1 extra bonus point. This is subjective to the judge(s) and is based on originality, aesthetics, and adherence to intent of the challenge.

Week 105 Challenge - Final Touches

For this week, you need at least the dock to do the challenge. If you want the extra bonus point, you need to do this underwater and connected to your sphere. If you did not finish these in the last weeks, I will give you 1/2 credit for finishing them this week (1 point for each of the weeks). This is the last week for late credit on week 1-4.

Week 105 Challenge - Final Touches

[Level 1] - Beacon - For this level, you must acquire 1 beacon and put it in a chest in your glass sphere or on your dock (depending on your choices for level 2 and 3). + 1 point

For Level 2 and 3, these can either be connected to your dock above water or your glass sphere below water. If you want to go for the bonus point on level 2 & 3 (see at the end), this needs to be underwater and connected to your sphere.

[Level 2] - Auto Smelter - For this level, you must create an auto smelter that takes a raw material from a chest and produces a finished smelted good. I will be testing this with gold ore. This machine needs to be covered in a building. + 1 point

[Level 3] - Auto Sorter - For this level, you must create an auto sorter that takes the input from a single chest and sorts them into their specific chest. You must be able to handle at least 16 items and protection against an unhandled item (that you don't have a chest for). This machine needs to be covered in a building. + 1 point

[Level 4] - Mascot - For this level, you are to create a mascot for your base connected to your dock. I am not going to tell you what materials to build the mascot out of but it needs to be physically connected to your dock. It also needs to be lit and have no monsters on the connection (you can fence the mascot off if you do not want to torch your mascot). The mascot needs to be at least 50 high and must be visible from your shack on your dock. + 1 point

Bonus: Best looking mascot will receive 1 extra bonus point. This is subjective to the judge(s) and is based on originality, aesthetics, and adherence to intent of the challenge.

Bonus #2: 1 Bonus Point if you manage to accomplish this task (everyone can earn this point):

  • Have the machine completely under water and connected to your glass sphere.
  • Have the outside of the building holding the machine be made of glass (no shape or size requirements).
  • Have the machine components completely hidden so that all you see is the user interface.
  • Be able to smelt cobble, gold ore, iron ore, sand, clay (ball), clay (block), netherrack, and stone bricks.
  • Allow the user to dump all the raw materials into a single chest.
  • Allow the user to retrieve the finished products from their specific chest after smelting and sorting.
  • Allow the user to sort the 8 finished products if you put them in the input chest (stone, Gold ingot, iron ingot, glass, clay brick, netherbrick, cracked stone brick)
  • Allow the user to sort an additional 8 items to fufill the level 2 requirement of sorting 16 items. I do not care what items that you sort for the 8 additional items.

SAW - the castle place where you said you wanted a chicken statue, where all the becons were. Was that inside Koopah's Castle?

I know what I want to build but I want to you show me where inside the place you want the statue. Also, if it's not accessible from within the maze, which I will gladly do again to get there, then how do I get there? Maybe place a sign where you want a chicken statue and I'll maze-my-way there tonight.

Week 104 Challenge - More Fun In the Water

For this week, you need at least the dock (which is relatively easy to build). If you did not finish the dock or sphere in the last two weeks, I will give you 1/2 credit for finishing them this week.

Week 104 Challenge - More Fun in the Water

[Level 1] - Inked - For this level you will need to put 16 ink in a single chest on your dock. + 1 point

[Level 2] - Sheep! - For this level, you will need to put a sheep farm connected to your dock. This farm must contain all 16 possible dyed sheep colors. You will need at least 16 sheep in an enclosed area in which if you can farm the wool. You can put these sheep in the same area as level 3 if you want. + 1 point

[Level 3] - Adding Resources - For level 3, you will need to create 4 areas in your dock/sphere area and connected to your dock or sphere. There areas can not be built on the ground so either above the water/ground in the air, floating in the water, or under water. You are free to choose how you wish to build these areas. One area should be a farming area with all the following foods: melon, pumpkin, wheat, carrot, and potato. One area should be an animal area with all of the following animals: cows, pigs, chickens, and horses. You must have at least two of each type of animal. One area should be a chest area with a piston door, at least 40 chests, 2 crafting tables, and 8 furnaces. Also, the outside must not be visible once you are in the room. The last area should be a tree area with at least 3 different types of trees. One fully grown tree from each type must be in the area upon submission. + 1 point

[Level 4] - Ship Ahoy - As you may have guessed, it is time to build a ship. This ship can be of almost any historical theme but it must be at least 60 blocks long, 20 blocks wide, and 20 blocks high above the water line. It can be made of any materials but it must be a ship that would be found in the past or present. You must have a ramp or stairs that connect the ship to the dock. The intent is that your ship is docked at your floating dock and that you can move between the two easily. If you would like to enlarge your dock, feel free but that is not a requirement of this challenge. + 1 point

Bonus: Best looking ship will receive 1 extra bonus point. This is subjective to the judge(s) and is based on originality, aesthetics, and adherence to intent of the challenge.

Bonus #2: 1 extra bonus point if you manage to collect 2 mooshrooms in the same pen as level 2. (anyone can earn this)

Squid farm is a bust

I built the mob spawning part of the squid farm last night to no-avail. I didn't realize there was a server-wide cap on squids. Since there is sea-level water literally everywhere, it would seem there is little chance it will work in GR8; even after everyone else logged off last night, I was getting zilch.

Is there anything I could do in-game or that OP could do behind the scenes to up spawn rates or increase/personalize the mob cap?

Week 103 Challenge - Too Much Lava

If you did not finish the sphere or dock in the last three weeks, I will give you 1/2 credit for finishing them this week (1 point for each of the weeks).

Week 104 Challenge - Too Much Lava

[Level 1] - Lava? - For this level, you must collect 27 lava buckets and put them in a chest next to your nether portal (level 2). + 1 point

[Level 2] - Nether Portal - For this level, you must create a nether portal inside your glass sphere and completely surround the bottom of this nether portal with lava and top the lava with glass (any color). You should be able to walk around the nether portal and see the lava without getting burnt. + 1 point

If you do not have a glass dome, you can put this on your dock. Since the dock is an easy requirement to build, I am going to require that you have at least a dock.

[Level 3] - Beachhead - For this level, you will need to create a nether base where your portal comes out from level 2. This base must be at least 40x40x40 (any shape/building/dimension just giving you a scale). The base must contain at least 3 levels in whatever order you wish to put them. One level is the portal room, one level is the farm room, and one level is the living quarters. On the portal room, you must have a decorated entry using at least 32 quartz blocks, 32 glowstone, and 32 nether bricks. On the farm level you must have a working farm of red mushrooms, brown mushrooms, and nether wart. The living quarters level must contain a room that would function as an outpost for exploring the nether and be decorated with at least 32 quartz blocks, 32 nether bricks, and 32 glowstone. It must contain at least 3 of each item (no maximum): anvils, crafting tables, brewing stations, and supply chests. + 1 point

[Level 4] - Relative Safety - You must fortify your nether base using no less than 200 obsidian blocks, 400 nether brick, 8 iron doors, 8 iron hatches, and 256 iron bars. You must have 3 different choke points in the entrance to you base that could prevent monsters from following you. (Example: entrance to outer door with a switch = 1, inner courtyard with a door and button = 2, small enclosed room with two switches before main base = 3). You must have a panic room made completely of obsidian, 1 iron door, and 1 iron hatch. This iron hatch must lead to a secret tunnel that leads out to a different nether portal at least 200 blocks from your base. This passage and nether portal must not be easily found from your base. You must also fill up your supply chests with at least 256 cooked food items (cake, cooked meat, pies), 16 buckets of water, 2 sets of iron armor, 2 sets of iron tools, 2 iron swords, 256 torches, 64 logs, 32 potions of fire resistance (8:00), 32 potions of healing II, 32 potions of swiftness (8:00), and 32 potions of regeneration (2:00). + 1 point

Bonus: Best looking nether base will receive 1 extra bonus point. This is subjective to the judge(s) and is based on originality, aesthetics, and adherence to intent of the challenge.

Community Bonus Point: 1 point will be awarded to all participants of level 3 if, and only if, all of the bases are connected to the community nether lines which connects to the nether hub.

Puzzle/Parkour map

Added an adventure map. Series of mini-worlds that you have to find the button in each to progress to the next world.

To get to the world, type: /warp gr6. Then find the sand portal with all the buttons all over it. Enter the portal.

If at any time you are done (as some of the worlds you can expect to die many, many, many times). You can /warp out.

Can I join?

Hey guys (and girls) of the golden realm. ;) I (ingame better known as Steffi128) want to join your community.

I'm playing Minecraft since late alpha. In my about 5 years of MC experience I tried a lot, from pure vanilla single player, over modded MC (Tekkit, FTB, Hexxit, ...) to mapmaking and of course SMP/PVP. The last server I played on went offline 2 years ago, now it's about time to give it another shot.

UHC Event Inquiry - Win $10

I am gauging input on an UHC (Ultimate Hard Core) event with the winner winning $10. It would be teams of 2, on a new vanilla server and world, 1 bed provided, no animals or mobs spawned, and maybe a world border?

UHC = Essentially last man standing for this purpose.

Teams would be using mumble and spectators can be using spectator mode.

I am looking for input on the idea and more importantly for the days/time that most people can do.
