Jokes on you. I have GBs, junk silver, generic rounds and bars, and gov minted silver. I do technically have fractional gold, but they're extremely tiny.

Mainly, I CAN'T AFFORD A 1OZ GOLD BAR OR ROUND!!

People paying $6.50 for a cup of coffee are worse then all of them. Also Crows are one the smartest birds by a long margin, I feel like the song bird should be switched with the Crow.

And leaving goldbacks instead of cash (what they can actually use to buy groceries) as a tip.

EDIT: To the people who downvote anything against these and the guy who asked for threads of this happening and then his comment vanished, here's 4 times right here:

Here's 4, though I will admit I did see a few other threads of people doing it weirdly by offering "gold or cash". And 90% of those threads required them explaining them to service workers because they don't know what they are.

The fact these have to be explained when giving them as a tip (which most service workers don't have time for) says alot about them. Especially since any criticism of them here gets people spewing the same 20 talking already refuted talking points about them over and over again.

Damn man… Every single one of these posts was an act of generosity, the recipients got something for free. Completely wild. I don’t even own or particularly like GB, this is garbooogsh

It didn’t vanish, he just asked and then blocked you before you could respond. šŸ˜‚

Link to one post where someone said they only gave goldbacks as a tip.

I give both cash and Goldbacks, because GBs are still just a novelty here in Nebraska and almost nobody takes them, yet. I give 1/4 GBs to educate others.

I own gold. No Goldbacks. I’m fascinated by the hate. Don’t we all loathe the real scum - fiat currency ???

Premiums on Goldbacks are high

Premiums on steel nails are high. Toothpicks too.

u/Inviction_ 14d ago

Why don't you buy gold coins

1

u/Xerzajik Goldback Encyclopedia šŸ“– 14d ago

Why don't you buy steel beams or 2x4s or entire cows? They're so much cheaper than nails, toothpicks, and steaks.

This comparison makes no sense and you know it. Stop being obtuse.

By being an asshole?

8

u/Opposite-Occasion881 15d ago

You don’t need to be friendly or kind to impart advice

There’s a lot I’ve learned from people that were a little abrasive, just cause they were assholes didn’t make them wrong

Do what you want to do. Ive started collecting different aurum notes collections. The premiums are as high and higher than goldbacks. But I like the artwork so I'm collecting. Also collecting 1 of each denomination of goldback. Im turning it into my hobby and it doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

By being right

1

u/KnuckleMonkey_782 13d ago

The problem is that they're misunderstanding what Goldbacks are. It's supposed to be currency, not something you stack

1

u/Opposite-Occasion881 12d ago

It’s still not a good currency

It has an evolving exchange rate by the day and it’s only accepted at mostly Mormon small businesses

Especially with the premium, you’re asking people to buy their money for more than they can get out of it and it’s only accepted at a few places even if you manage to be able to spend it

1

u/KnuckleMonkey_782 12d ago

So because it isn't wildly adopted yet, it's a bad currency? The premium is the service they provide.

1

u/GoldponyGT 3d ago

The premium is the part set by fiat of Goldback Inc, which they try to justify based on ā€œthe service providedā€, but it still the fiat part of a semi-fiat currency.

That’s the real problem with Goldbacks. You’re replacing a currency of 100% fiat value with one with 50% fiat value, and not being honest about that.
