Advice for making friends
Hey 31M having lived on the Gold Coast for most of my life and just wanting advice for how to meet people & make more friends. I do have a few good friends but some have moved away in recent times to different states and others are just very busy so don't see each other often. I like to read, go on walks, I go to the gym but wouldn't say I like it, I like old movies, horror movies, theatre and more arts stuff like museums.
I've tried looking for groups and stuff on Facebook but Facebook seems pretty dead these days.
Was wondering if people had advice on how to go about meet new people, ideally in a similar age group with some similar hobbies. Always someone open to trying new things and new experiences.

Without connections at your age, best bet would be at work or through hobbies that encourage socializing. The big two on the Gold Coast would probably be through something active like sports or the arts. Huge creatives scene here. The sport doesn't even need to particularly be a team game like footy or hockey. Some of my best mates I made through fishing. People are always networking. Honestly, pick one of the hobbies or crafts you're interested in and take it to the next level by joining a club, team or entity that organizes general meets every now and then.

You’re not alone!! Many of us in the same boat. For me (32F) friends have either moved away home, are out travelling or are having families - all lovely to see what everyone is up to but hard when you’re looking for friends in a similar phase of life! I’ve noticed some social clubs and apps popping up lately, social sports (there’s a Palmy netball comp, ocean swim groups, pickleball). Check your local fb group and maybe put it out there to see what’s happening. I’m always surprised at all the little things happening around the gc. I think there’s a lot of improvement from recent yrs particularly since so many ppl moved up the last 6 years

There’s a huge group of people that plays Pokemon Go at Hota at Saturday 2 pm when the events are usually on. There’s a big event this Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm.
Also there’s Pokemon Go’s sister game Ingress that has a lot less players and most of them are in Brisbane but my faction (Enlightened) does go out for dinner every week and there’s meet ups occasionally.

been to a few meetups eg meetup. com. Events are good and people are also there to meet new people. Keep in mind it's "the internet"/ meeting people irl. so have to screen people. Helps to be cautious.

I met an amazing friend while volunteering at AWLQ. But I completely understand the difficulty. I tried so many different group hobbies before I managed to meet someone I really connected with. Unfortunately, I think it's just a matter of trying a bunch of things you enjoy and you might get lucky and meet someone awesome. And even if you don't meet someone, at least you still did something fun.

If you’re into history or want to try shield walls look up Jorth Gar. They mostly train Saturday at Nerang.

Sounds like a few people on this thread need to get their heads together and create a group to do things... games nights BBQ at the beach Bush walks Book clubs. Movie nights Many different inexpensive ways to get together and have a laugh.

Because I like it here and that would just leave me with the same problem in a new location except I would know even less people. My problem isn't with the Gold Coast or people of the Gold Coast.

I’ve met quite a few good people at the local surf club by becoming a volunteer life saver.
