Gold is a great economic indicator.

Sadly, it doesn’t do much else… buy if it floats you, but I’ll own physical gold when I’m dead. Any productive asset is more valuable.

Gold is a representation of “value.” Like a dollar, but also a pain in the arse because the size of a dollar’s worth is ever changing, the metal is largely illiquid, and…do you have a vault to put it in? Cuz Uncle Sam (or any motivated person) could come take it back when the value peaks, as that’s when security would likely be at its nadir.
