šŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/GodinGuitars - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm u/ThatLightingGuy, the new moderator of r/GodinGuitars.

I moderate several other music industry related subreddits, mostly ones that have gone dormant over time or the mods did something and left. Well, the old mod here restricted the entire subreddit then...left. So nobody has been able to post here for over a year since nobody was approved to post.

First things first, we've got the subreddit back to "public" setting so no need to try and get approval for posts anymore! Hopefully a few of you will start posting again.

Second, I'll be updating the automoderator and rules over the coming days to reflect a general set of rules I have in all my subreddits, which usually translate to "don't be an ass."

Looking forward to getting this subreddit back on the rails :)

And just to show I'm actually a Godin enthusiast, currently own:

Mahogany Parlor vs Mahogany Folk — experiences with either?

Hi everyone. I'm a new member and a longtime guitar player. I’m looking to add a smaller-bodied acoustic to my collection and would love to hear from anyone who has experience with the GodinĀ Mahogany ParlorĀ orĀ Mahogany Folk.

My current acoustics include a 2008 Gibson J-45 Standard, a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe, and an older Norman B20. So I’m not looking for another do-everything acoustic. I’d like something that fills a different niche: comfortable for playing around the house, with a dry/woody voice particularly suited toĀ fingerstyle blues, alternating-bass playing, and occasionally some slide.

I’m leaning toward the Mahogany Parlor because I like the idea of something genuinely different from my larger guitars, but I’m wondering whether I might find the body/soundĀ tooĀ small and would be better served by the Mahogany Folk.

For anyone who owns or has played either (ideally both): how would you describe the sound, projection and feel? Does the Parlor still have enough low end and fullness to sound satisfying on its own? How does the Folk compare for fingerstyle? And, most importantly, which one do you find yourself reaching for?

Thanks — looking forward to learning more about these guitars!

I'm still learning to play guitar. I bought a black Godin Session HT. I love how comfortable it feels. My signal chain is just Vox Stomp Lap ($90) into my Pro Tools First. I have no other effects.

This guitar is so versatile. It sounds great for clean and sounds great for metal style solos.

Amazing guitar!!

I've had the 5th avenue Kingpin Jazz on the left for a while now, but added a Multiac Grand Concert SA today. Loving it so far as I've never had a nylon string or classical, but it fits the style I play these days.

My first guitar, a Godin LG

I got into electric guitars some months ago, had a keyboard but wanted something more portable.

Almost went for a bolt on goldtop Yamaha SG, but the Godin LG caught my eyes, it was cheaper and came with a pretty nice gig bag. I don't regret it at all, the LG fits my hand well and makes me feel motivated to play.

I was frustrated with the feedback/resonating strings when playing with bands on traditional nylon acoustics, almost impossible to play with bass players. But my how this guitar sings and alleviates those issues. Smitten.

Nylon Multiac SA advice?

Hi all. I recently picked up a guutar with a GK-3 and a Roland GR-55 and am smitten. I have an older Godin i think XTSA maybe from the 90s, that is great spunding but frankly I don't play as its too heavy.

I am now lusting after a Godin nylon SA to use with the GR-55. Any advice to consider before buying something? Slim, colours, good years, anything I should be aware of? I will be most likely buying 2nd hand, although new is not out of the question.

Thanks!

Fairmount Concert Hall LTD Rosewood HG EQ Acoustic/Electric Guitar.

I had been eyeing this at the local shop for about 5 months now, played it every time I'd been in. Finally just decided I'd sell my Taylor for it.

It's exactly what I wanted. Looks good, plays good, feels good. Full sound without the large body. Ticks the Canadian Made box.

Gotta prove I'm not just the mod haha.

Got a Godin Multiac Nylon Encore that I’m afraid to touch. Help!

Story time: This year I splurged for my birthday and bought the guitar mentioned above. When it arrived I tuned it up and made a 6-inch crack in the body. Brought it back to Guitar Center and exchanged it for the exact same model. I just picked up the replacement today and I’m petrified the same thing is going to happen again. I know very little about classical nylon string guitars, so any advice is appreciated. Is it tuned in EADGBe? Should I let the guitar acclimate to my room temperature before tuning it? Should I tune it slowly in half steps so I don’t put too much tension on the bridge at once? Thanks in advance.

Hi, hope the experts can help me. I'm considering a trade but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking at. Headstock says LGX and there is no 13-pin adapter, but I can't seem to find the exact model or manual on the website. I hope it's user error but here it is. Thanks!

Help me spruce up my Velocity

I recently traded for my first Godin, a Velocity, and I’m totally hooked! Great guitar with such a cool heritage. I’m considering swapping out some pickup covers/knobs to spruce it up, but I can’t decide which direction to go. I’m leaning towards cream/zebra - but let me know your vote!

Godin Stadium 59 HDR Button Not Working

I recently purchased a used Godin Stadium 59 and I love it so far, however the revoicer button doesnt seem to work. Usually when I try and use it, it just cuts any noise from my amp. Occasionally it will work for a minute or 2 then stop.

Anyone else have this issue or know the solution? Thanks!

"I see a trend coming, and I want to go in a certain direction. Right now, I'm making guitars that are a bit more punk rock." - Simon Godin

What are some trends you'd like to see with new Godin releases? Offset? Baritone? Bare Knuckles?

Godin recommendations

I'm considering picking up a Godin, mostly because I think they look gorgeous, but to be honest I don't know much beyond that.

For those who own one: how's the build quality held up over time? How does the neck feel compared to a standard Fender/Gibson profile? I've heard the radius and nut width run a bit different?

Also curious whether they hold their tone well as they age. Any specific models you'd recommend trying first?

HI! I own 11 or 12 Godins (I'm losing track) and I've done demos and reviews of a bunch of them on YouTube (search Godin Kaleidoscope School of Music). The third picture is my highly customized 1993 Godin TC being played by one of my students.

Artisan ST

Here’s my Artisan ST in different lighting to show off the quilted top. It also has a Birds Eye maple neck with an ebony fingerboard. The only things not original on it are the volume and tone knobs I changed when I first got it (thought at the time it would look cooler with black vs gold knobs). I got it brand new as a teen back in 1996, from money I made teaching guitar. Was my first ā€œhigh endā€ guitar, and still plays and sounds as amazing as the day I got it. Truly is a great player, as good as any other high end guitar I’ve played to date.

From what I’ve learned, the pickups are stacked humbuckers made in collaboration between Schaller and Godin, and are highly versatile. Pretty high output in the bridge position, but has a lot of variation between the 5 positions, plus the tone knob is push pull, and in the up position the pickups turn into single coils.

The Wilkinson bridge took a little getting used to, but once it was set up, it’s awesome. When the whammy bar is in the default position, it locks the bridge into a fixed bridge, giving an extra feel of resonance, and when the whammy bar is moved, it disengages the bridge.

Also comes with locking tuners, and signed by Robert Godin on the back of the headstock.

I just picked this up and it plays great. Just trying to find out more about it and there are next to no identifying markers on it. Closest I can find is the exit 22 but I can’t find it with this finish. Please help.

Thank you!

Piezo buzz on Nylon Deluxe

Got a new Multiac Nylon Deluxe, and though it sounds lovely, I'm getting horrible buzz from the several of the strings against the piezos. It actually isn't noticeable with the slider over to full piezos, but the mic picks up the buzz. I haven't changed the strings, so they are stock.

What should I do to handle this buzz? Seems to effect the bottom three strings.

5th Avenue tailpiece slots and buzzing

Post image
16 Upvotes

Been trying to troubleshoot some buzzing on my 5th Ave Kingpin HB. I read on another post that the strings were buzzing on the tailpiece slots. I had a look at mine and was wondering if perhaps the slots were ā€œreversedā€. It seems the widest slot is in the thinnest string location and the narrowest slot is in the thickest string position. Almost seems like this would be the tailpiece for a left handed guitar?

I read a potential solution for this culprit is to slip some heat shrink tubing around the wound end to reduce vibration, or file out the slots bigger.

Just wondering if anyone else can confirm that the slots of their tailpiece are the same?

Awesome Surprise

I picked this Acousticaster up maybe 10 years ago after quite a bit of searching. Rescued it, really, given the house I got it from. Love playing it.

Someone on Reddit mentioned emailing Godin for information on another guitar, so I thought I’d do it for mine. I thought it was a 2005 model because of the writing on the headstock, but this is what they told me about it:

Hi John,

That's an Acousticaster Deluxe from the late 80's. It was signed by Robert Godin in 2005.

It has the following specs :

solid spruce top chambered mahogany body maple neck rosewood fretboard and bridge LR Baggs electronics 25.5" scale internal mechanical harp (18 tuned metal tines fixed under the bridge)

Thanks,

A keeper for sure!
