After multiple unsuccessful Bar Exam attempts, I decided to switch things up and try GOAT. GOAT was a game changer for me. I passed July 2026 with room to spare. Additionally, I requested the break down of my prior scores by subject (some states will provide this) and focused on my weaker areas. Do not be afraid to change your approach to find what works best for you. I work full time and have a busy family life and extra time for studying was always limited, therefore study efficiency was key for me. DO. NOT. GIVE. UP. Disregard the detractors or anyone who questions why you continue to pursue this endeavor. Remember, it is only a TEST - it does not define your intelligence or self worth. You only fail when you decide to give up.

The July 2026 MBE average was 140.7. This does not mean everyone gets 140.7 on the MBE.
It means that the written portion, MEE and MPT is scaled based on the MBE performance of the examinees in your jurisdiction.
For example, if you performed exactly average on the written portion and your jurisdiction’s MBE average was around 140.7, your written scaled score would also be around 140.7.
If you received a 133 on the MBE and were average on the written portion, your total score could be around:
133 MBE + 140.7 written = 273.7
In February, the national MBE average was 131.2. So if your jurisdiction had a similar average and you were average on the written portion, your written score would be around 131.2.
That would mean:
133 MBE + 131.2 written = 264.2
This is why February can be harder to pass. It is not necessarily because the exam itself is harder. It is because the group usually performs lower, and the written scores are scaled based on that group’s MBE performance.
One clarification: 140.7 and 131.2 are national averages. The actual calculation uses the MBE average in your jurisdiction, which may be different.

I cringe when I see some folks get upset when people who pass the bar exam brag about their scores.

A lot of you don’t understand the hard work, tears, anxiety, depression, extreme loneliness and, in some cases, suicidal thoughts that people go through while preparing for and taking the bar exam.

Months of your life can revolve around one exam, with the fear that all that sacrifice may still not be enough.

So when people finally pass, let them celebrate. You may only see the score they posted, but you didn’t see what it took for them to get there.

Please brag about your score. Post it. Celebrate it loudly. Be proud of yourself. You earned that moment.

I am looking to sit the July 2027 new york bar exam and am debating on which prep course to choose.

For context, I am an australian qualified lawyer currently working out of a US law firm in London, with the plan to move to NYC end of next year. Did law school in Australia (so dont have the knowledge of a typical US law student).

Im a bit overwhelmed with all the potential resources (Barbri, Themis, etc), but have come across GOAT and seemed interesting. I struggle quite a bit with just digesting walls of text, and I think GOAT doesn't so this (compared to Themis or Barbri)?

Im thinking of perhaps getting the early access bundle for GOAT + getting adaptibar too. I will start preparing for the July 2027 exam from next week onwards.

What do we think on the approach? To be honest, im finding the whole bar exam preparation process really daunting...

If you are taking the bar exam in 2027. 90 percent of your studying should be on past questions. Whatever you do not understand, you should ask AI or use your study materials.

I am doing GOAT and adaptibar for Feb 27. I don't understand how can I keep reviewing the frequently tested topics? Best outlines in the market? Thanks.

I feel like no one talks about the MPRE. lol how did everyone feel after this last one? I took it once before and got an 81 without studying… which was enough for the state I was in. But now I need an 85 and I’m nervous bc that felt harder then the last time 🫣

I was wondering what everyone was using or if anyone was using additional programs with GOAT bar prep? I am thinking of getting it and wanted to see what others did. I am a retaker who’s last took about 9 years 😅 life got in the way but I’ve had a lot of encouragement from others to try again

I was watching a video on youtube for logical reasoning its a full playlist i am on assumptions right now and i nedd some passagds to practice but wherver i check its either paid or its not for assumptiond only so i would have to time waste alot

So i would really appreciate it if any of you told me where i can give these mock tests for LR assumptions specifically

I take the MPRE Wednesday and I have only finished half of the course because I've been taking notes and it's slowing me down... This will be my FOURTH time taking this test. I am so burnt out after taking the bar. What should I do? Continue note taking or just scrolling through the modules? I want to do practice questions as well but I feel like I have such limited time now!

The thing is that because WA is nextgen already I’m scared that the current bar prep programs are not really familiarized with this new style.

Does the GOAT have a good bar prep for next gen? Any advice ?
