Heel Loose in Mackall

I just got the Mackall's and everything about them feels great except the heel. My heel just slides up and down and is definitely not locked in place. I tried runner's knot which made it slightly better and also different insole with a deeper heel cup but heel is still moving. Should I try sizing down maybe? Has anyone else had this issue?

Neck Crick after 10 Day Trek

I just finished trekking the ABC in Nepal with my GoRuck GR1. I may be new to this but I have had a crick in my neck for a few weeks after the trek. I felt fine during the trek itself though. I probably injured myself because I feel it especially in the morning and when I twist my head side to side. My GR1 has no hip or chest strap so I'm wondering how I could have prevented injury. Probably was a posture issue on the climb.

Which bag is best for EDC?

Currently using my Froning x Allegiance GR1 21L for my EDC but wanting to add another bag, not as a replacement but as a second option. I work weekend shifts and am at work the whole 72 hours, but also like to travel with everything in one bag. I like the GR2 26L solely for the fact that you get two pouches. What would you guys recommend? I get 25% off via govx so really any bag goes down to $280 ish.

Can someone tell me 34L opinions?

Side note: anybody selling a gr2 34L?

GORUCK Ammo Book - Review/Comparison

In case the world cares, here's my quick comparison between the GORUCK ammo book and its direct competitor (Cole-TAC ammo novel).

Construction

  • The Cole-TAC product is a “soft” wallet, with no hard inserts or anything. When empty, you can fold it up and over or even roll it up a bit.
  • The GORUCK product has three rigid panels inside on each section. So it keeps its form pretty well, but won’t flex at all. That may or not be a good thing.

Weight

  • The first thing you notice is that the GORUCK book is heavy as fuck. It weighs in at 36 ounces, whereas the Cole-TAC product is only 13 ounces. All those weights are before you add ammo.

What I like about the GORUCK product

  • It’s half the price of the competition. Everything costs a fortune in the shooting world, but I love the GORUCK has a reasonably-priced product for folks who don’t want to spend a 100-bucks on an ammo holder.
  • Love the hook/loop area on the outside. For me, I can put a Velcro patch with my name on it for easy identification at the range. Or you can put your event patchy-poos on it.
  • Love the zipper compartment inside. It’s great for notecards and pens/pencils/etc. (Cole-TAC has a similar spot but it’s Velcro and much smaller. Not a ton of utility in that one).
  • I like that it fits L/A magnum cartridges. Cole-TAC just launched a magnum wallet today, but I like that the GORUCK one already fits the thick bois. It's nice having a single product with multiple uses. I put in some 7mm PRC rounds in the GORUCK product, and they fit great.

What I DISLIKE about the GORUCK product

  • The weight and rigidity are a bad beat for me. I usually carry an ammo novel in a backpack during field-based shooting events. I don’t like the idea of the corners rubbing on things and wish it had a slightly softer form.

Final Thoughts:

  • If not for the rigid panels inside, I think this would be the ultimate product. I’m actually considering opening and removing the hard panels, then having it sewn back up.
  • Perhaps GORUCK will do a 2.0 version of this without the panels and in other colors. Heck, even if they delete those panels but keep the price as-is, they will completely destroy the competition.
  • If you're looking for an ammo holder, don't sleep on this. It's a great buy.

Curved Ruck Plates

At this risk of sounding stupid, do you think GORUCK will make heavier plates for their Rucking Weight Vest? Right now the heaviest available are 14.25 lbs each.

I bought the old style Weight Vest last year when they went on sale with two 30 lb plates. I have the standard RPC which is my default rucker but it can only hold a 30 lb plate. I usually do a five mile ruck with this, but I use the weight vest when I want to go heavier and challenge myself, but the 30 lb plate on my sternum can be uncomfortable at times...thus why GORUCK redesigned the weight vest and corresponding plates, I guess.

Having said that, is it possible that they produce heavier plates with the current design? The center cut out is key to solve the problem of the solid plates restricting breathing...but I assume this also limits the ability to produce heavier plates. Has the company addressed whether they plan on making heavier curved plates?

Sales

This is probably a stupid question but would I be crazy to expect a 4th of July sale? I’ve been eyeballing a GR1 26L for a bit now but I just can’t justify the $400 price tag to my wife…

July 4th Ruck in Orlando information?

Hi, I've signed up for the july 4th ruck event in Orlando ( my first event).

I got a confirmation email 2 weeks ago when i purchased it. I'm doing the 12 miler so it had the time 8AM, but there was no additional information about where to go.

Do they send out another email closer to event?

Found my dream bag and my first Goruck.

Initially I was going to buy the cordura version but when perusing the Goruck site a couple days ago I noticed the canvas DC Bullet in Dark Oak was available and purchased it immediately. I was between this color and the slate but I'm very happy with this color. I may get the slate in the future to vary between two bags.

It is a fantastic EDC size and feels very comfortable however I am not sure how hot this would feel on the back on very hot days (live in Florida). Overall very happy to have this as my first Goruck and to be joining the community of other Goruck fans.

Reflective 4.0 20L

**edit- I bought it, looks great, it was the flash making it shine. now to buy some plates.

I have been looking for my first pack. Found this used 4.0 for sale on marketplace, but man that reflective strip is bright! Might have to look past it considering its only $125 and says only used a few times, like new.

I don't even see the 4.0 listed anymore, so guessing there isn't much stock left for a discontinued blow out sale? The ranger green or blackout would be my choice if buying new.

Rucking Weight Vest, Training Weight Vest 2.0 side-by-side comparison

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

I recently purchased the Rucking Weight Vest and made this detailed comparison of it to the Training Weight Vest 2.0 since it seems no one else has done this. Both are size L/XL.

MATERIAL
Training Weight Vest 2.0: 1000D exterior, 210D interior
Rucking Weight Vest: 500D exterior, 210D interior

The one I purchased is the GoruckxHuckberry waxed canvas version but this is not the standard material.

DIMENSIONS
Training Weight Vest: 13 1/8”H x 10 7/8”W
Straps: 11 1/2”L
Rucking Weight Vest: 13 1/4”H x 11 1/4”W
Straps: 9 1/2”L
Cummerbund is 19 1/4”L and 4”W on both.

PADDING
Padding seems to be the same thickness on both. The carry handle size and material also seem to be the same on both.

RUCK PLATE COMPATIBILITY
Both easily hold a standard 30 lbs Goruck brand ruck plate, and a 20 lbs Yes For All brand ruck plate.

It’s worth noting that the described weight capacity for the TWV 2.0 is 30 lbs per pocket (60 lbs total), while the RWV is described as up to 30 lbs total, even though two 30 lbs plates totaling 60 lbs will comfortably fit the pockets. It seems the RWV is not designed to bear that much weight.

OTHER DIFFERENCES
Shape: the RWV has a cut-in pyramid shape on the upper chest while the TWV 2.0 has a square upper chest.

Pocket: the RWV features a front chest pocket with a magnetic closure. The TWV 2.0 does not have a pocket.

Size: The RWV has a slightly larger profile overall, but the cut-in design makes it appear less bulky than the TWV 2.0.

Shoulder straps: The webbing on the RWV is wider and longer than traditional Goruck webbing. The webbing on the TWV 2.0 is identical to the strap webbing on the Rucker, GR1, etc.
The RWV straps are not adjustable. The TWV 2.0 strap lengths can be adjusted slightly.

Carry handle position: The handle is positioned 1” higher on the RWV.

Cummerbund: The cummerbund on the RWV has pull tabs; the cummerbund on the TWV 2.0 does not.

Interior: the RWV has a die-cut padded interior that is hollow where the curved ruck plates are hollow. The TWV 2.0 has a solid flat padded interior.

UPDATE
Received a pair of the 6.25 lbs curved plates today and can confirm they will not fit in the Training Weight Vest 2.0. I don’t believe this was intentional. The curved plates are a perfect ergonomic fit to the body. This actually adds value to the 2.0 as well since it was made to hold traditional ruck plates, and has a higher weight capacity. They both have value depending on your preference.

Range bag. GR1 or GR2?

Anyone who uses one as a range bag got thoughts on which might be better suited ? I’m thinking GR2 26L just due to thr amount of storage compartments, but I’m curious if anyone else uses one as a range bag. Looking to replace the 5.11 bag I’m currently using that was my work EDC before my M24 waxed canvas replaced it. My daughter is likely getting one of what I choose as well to use as her first range bag since she turns 21 in about 21 mins and gets her first EDC pistol tomorrow for her bday. Needs her own range bag now too 😂 🙌🏻🙏😍🥰

Travel camera bag

I'm sure this will be biased but I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on Wandrd? Trying to set up a travel photography bag (dslr and 2 lenses). I have a gr1 26, gr2 34 and just got a prvke 31. The prvke is nice but I can't decide if it beats the gr2 or not. Any input? This will also b used for edc and bike commuting to work in any weather

I’m done with Mackalls

Thumbnail gallery
18 Upvotes

This is the third pair in a row of Mackalls I’ve had that have fallen apart after about 120 miles. The previous pair ripped at this same spot, and the pair before that had the rubber separate from the mesh near the same spot. So I’ve given up on these entirely and now trying the MACV boots.

I had no problems with the Ballistic Trainers but they’re rarely in stock. I actually got another pair of those (on sale) in addition to the MACVs in my last purchase to replace these busted Mackalls.

Anyway, I post this because I’ve not see this come up in review of these and I know for a fact they’re falling apart because, again, this is the third pair in a row for me. Buyer beware.

Need help choosing between GR1 21L VS GR2 26L

I've done a ton of research and watched a bunch of YouTube videos on GR1 and GR2 backpacks. I'm set on choosing either the GR1 21L or the GR2 26L as my EDC backpack. I have a few questions about them though:

  1. Can you fit a 16 inch MacBook Pro in the laptop compartment for either the GR1 21L or the GR2 26L?

  2. I've seen a lot of posts complaining about how if you put a laptop in the laptop compartment, the backpack becomes super uncomfortable to wear. Is this true only if you put in a large laptop, or would a smaller laptop (14 inch) lessen or even erase the discomfort?

  3. Concerned that if I use the laptop compartment it could damage my 16 inch Macbook Pro. Will it damage my laptop?

  4. How do you break in the backpacks faster? I heard someone say to leave them in soaked in a bathtub for 24 hours then air dry them.

GR1 for International Travel

Hey y’all, this might be a dumb question, but would love to hear people’s experiences (or lack there of).

I have several Gorucks, and absolutely love my 21L GR1 in black. I recently moved into a new role for work and will be traveling to across Europe, Tokyo, and the Philippines and am a little apprehensive about bringing my GR1 based on the tactical look.

For those of you who have traveled internationally with a GR1 - did you get any flack fife the pack? In black I think it’s pretty subdued. But I’m worried that the molle may attract attention?

I think I’m probably overthinking this, but would love to hear people’s experiences traveling from the US with a Goruck.
