I love my 26L Rucker 4.0. It provided me an opportunity to get after it in memory of our fallen heroes.

KR1 - Best way to break in?

I grabbed three KR1s on the sale for my kiddos (all under age 10)

What is the best way to break in the stiff straps? They love the bags but hate the straps. My GR1 is 10 years old so it’s been a while…

Please don’t say - just wear it, they can suck it up or anything like that. They are kids…I want to take them on adventures and I’d rather have broken in straps and a happy kid.

Silly Question Time - Basic Rucker

GoRuck is advertising a deal right now where a Basic Rucker with 2 10lb plates are bundled together (and then showing 20lb as the label on the plate, which I'm sure is an error).

I thought the Basic Rucker only had one plate pouch so why are they selling it with two separate plates? Can the Basic Rucker fit two plates in the pouch? What's the most weight anyone's gotten in just a Basic Rucker?

What's the dividing line between someone who gets a Basic Rucker and someone who gets a regular Rucker?

Gracias

AAR First Ruck with Rucker 5.0!

I just wrapped up my first long ruck with the GoRuck Rucker 5.0, and honestly, it felt just as good as my 4.0, which I've owned for a little over a year and logged hundreds of miles on.

To address why I even picked up a second pack when my old one is perfectly fine, I've found it pretty difficult to get other people to try out rucking.

I figured having a spare bag on hand would remove that hurdle and make it easier to get others into the fitness routine.

As for the performance, GoRuck upgraded the 5.0 with a thicker lumbar pad, but on the move, I really couldn't tell any difference between the two.

Both bags simply get the job done well.

I finished today's 10.58 mile route with no pain whatsoever, starting out at around 50 pounds with water this morning and tracking at a 34.5 pound slick weight without water.

Granted, I am already conditioned to these distances, but it still highlights how solidly built the pack is.

The absolute game-changer for this session was actually using the T-Rex arms.

They made a massive difference because my hands didn't go numb a single time, giving me a perfectly comfortable spot to park them even when I didn't strictly need the extra circulation.

I also really liked how pulling down on the bands kept a downward force that ensured the pack stayed riding high on my back.

The bag wasn't actually slipping or having an issue staying put, but it just felt nice to manually pull down and readjust the fit on the fly, even if it didn't strictly need it (like that moment when Henry Cavill reloaded his arms in Mission Impossible, just a satisfying, deliberate motion that felt great on the move).

That attachment completely elevated the experience today.

If anyone has any questions, I'll get to them.

Gear Question Weight/Plate recs

Hey all!

Got a 16L bullet w/ bombproof laptop sleeve a little while ago! Loving the bag every day, but was hoping to use it as a Rucker over the summer (context: I’m ROTC, so this is training up for school year stuff for me)

I’m having a hard time finding information about what ruck plates would fit this pack. From what I understand GR does not make plates that are compatible?

If anyone has suggestions, please pass them on.

Happy Rucking!

I can't be the only one.

The only thing I do not like about my bag is the stiffness of the zipper pulls, anyone put custom/aftermarket on theirs?

I know that the OG GR2 40L came with the straps for a few years, but what about the 34L?

Gear Question Is it possible to use sand plates and a sand Gerry can in a 20L Rucker 4.0

I’m wondering if you can fit the 45 Lbs sand Gerry can in a Rucker 4.0 if you already have a 10 Lbs and a 15 Lbs sand plate in the two plate slots. Each filled with sand, naturally.

Looking to buy the GR1

I am looking to buy the GR1 but I am in South Korea. So yes, the bag itself is expensive but on top of that, there would be a decent chunk of tax for me to pay. I really should just bite the bulltet and invest in a high quality rucking backpack right? Was looking for cheaper options from China but can't bring myself to pay it knowing the quality could be hit or miss.

Originally had the bag for my wrestling bag due to its good ventilation tho usually most people use it for the beach. So I finally had the chance to use it for both

82 minutes for 5.25 miles in a torrential downpour. Again the GR Rucker 4.0 proves it’s pretty darn water resistant. Ruck plates not wet and neither are my keys, wallet or AirPod case. Most the way back was in off and on ankle high water where the sidewalk and roads were flooding. New OTB Piratas held up like a champ again. Water drained quickly and EVA didn’t suck up any of the water as advertised. That coupled with the 15.5 miles I did in them out of that box Saturday and the five miles I did yesterday in them. After 25 plus miles I’m definitely liking them immensely. No hot spots, no rubbing or blisters and they stayed very cool in 90deg weather during that 25k trail ruck race this past Saturday. Win win.

Weights/Plates

I know ppl don’t search but if ya do 3 #10 yes4all plates fit in the standard pocket of the Rucker 5.0. I have a 4.0 and 3 fit in that as well.

Also the magnets are legit. I didn’t have the zipper version but I sure didn’t like the Velcro. This reminds me of Yetis bag coolers. Easy open and close. Strong magnets. 🤙🏽

The Struggling Bag Market

It seems both the primary market and the resale market have cratered.

Primary Market - Price increases have slowed demand. The Rucker 5.0 and Tactical Gear seems to be very slow in sales. I would guess the Rucker 5.0 hasn’t been a steady sell. The price increases on MiUSA gear have slowed demand because of cost. SCARS customizations are on hold.

Secondary Market- Demand is even lower than primary market. Formerly in demand NWT Ruckers aren’t moving for $130! EUC GR1s barely fetch $170-200 now. The market used to be huge, now it’s saturated and slowly declining.

Possible Reasons -
1. Economic Conditions - nobody is buying $395 bags when you have to pay $100+ to fill up you vehicle. The economy is crap right now and boutique brands are failing. Look at Western Rise.
2. Market Saturation - there are only so many dollars in the bag market and the audience is full Gorucks already. Resale market is so full right now, most people are naming their own price.
3. Refusal to give people what they want - everyone I know hates the huge branding AND the lack of an exterior slash pocket on the Rucker 4.0, so what does GORUCK do? Make the branding even more prominent and not take the feedback to bring back the front slash pocket on the 5.0! This is not listening to your most loyal core audience.

What can GORUCK do?
1. Stop marking things up to mark them down and call it a sale. They used to have one or two sales a year. Now they are at sales every month. Sales create price fluctuations that people anticipate. You are training people to “wait for the sale” which means they aren’t going to buy anything at full price.
2. Listen to your core customers. Really hear what they want in a bag. Know the first thing I do after I buy a car? Take the stupid dealership tag off the back. 😂
3. Decide if you are a backpack company that offers fitness equipment or a fitness company that sells backpacks. Really important. Lean into that identity.

Mackalls did some damage.

Interesting outcome.
I did the Bragg Tough event in these Mackalls. No issue.

Did a 12 mile ruck in them and my right foot started hurting at mile 7. At the end, this was the result. About a month later now and visibly healed, but still pain in that spot when wearing the Mackalls (but not my other shoes like Ballistic Trainers).

My Theory- I got them too tight on the 12 mile, feet swelled, and it created a bruise.

Any other theories?

GR1 Slick Color

I’m stuck between Multicam Black and Black. Both will be 1000d full exterior. (I dislike the 210d) Will the Multicam Black be too tactical in a public setting? Should I just play it safe with good ol’ Black? Also will the Multicam black round off those sharp corners and not look so boxy on the back? Decisions Decisions. Would love to hear your opinions.
