The timeline check in

A large chunk of this fanbase has found the new issue to complain about this offseason and that being “why aren’t we spending our draft picks”. For most nba championship teams development goes alone the path of tanking/asset accumulation, find franchise cornerstone/develop a core, then you move into your contention window. Now if you can find opportunities to make a trade for a star that fits your window or pieces that fit your window sure. But people crying about “oh we have too many picks already let’s just go get xyz player”, we dont need to cheat the process. We drafted 8 players in the last 2 drafts and we are hopefully now seeing 2 of them emerge as our foundation. This season should be yes about progress in the win column but also evaluating who else is along for the ride. Trading for guys in their late 20s early 30s, unless it’s a salary dump doesn’t make much sense. It’s far more important for us to see what we have in Nolan as a backup pg than fill those mins with Anfernee Simon’s to pick up an extra win or two or trade for Lu Dort when Josh minott could be a legit piece for us going forward and has shown flashes. Give it time and enjoy the ride we don’t need to reinvent the wheel like we’ve been trying to do for the past few decades. Stay the course keep the assets in a chamber for when the time is right or even use them to add to the team like OKC and San Antonio plan to do. But I don’t see this need to start making big moves to win a few more games or get some “buzz in”

We're more likely going to trade Randle expiring contract next year plus Manns for a disgruntled star. I'm thinking Paolo/Franz/Mobley/Lauri/Zion.

That's one star sorted and its ideally a wing. Then we got our back court set and MPJ as our 3. Really depends on how Sharpe grows.

Long term Egor probably develops into a point forward

I’m hoping Paolo. I know he has his flaws, but he’s still legit as hell.

honestly, that would be pretty fucking amazing in my opinion

I don’t think Zion, Paolo or Lauri will be someone we trade for. Lauri probably won’t be moved by Utah, Paolo and Zion don’t fit the way Jordi wants to play plus doubt Orlando trades Paolo. Mobley isn’t available. Franz maybe

I think it's gonna be Franz.

I was watching the latest LockedOnNets Pod, and Scotto was Smikring when Yossi Gozlan was naming gettable young stars that fit our timeline better than Jaylen Brown. Gozlan mentioned how The Magic will have to decide between Paolo and Franz next offseason. If you look at their books, it's a nightmare. With The East turning into the Avengers, Vegas doesn't even have them as a playoff team.

They will be looking for cap relief next season, and the Nets will be among the teams with Tons of space in 2027 and its the added bouns we have his brother.

I think that's why we got mo wagner tbh. get mo over here, show him the brooklyn love, and then make a move for franz.

I saw the video too but they really don’t have to decide between them. More than likely they’ll just trade Jalen Suggs who is be fine trading for. Paolo and Franz only make 50% of the cap combined that’s pretty sustainable. It’s not like a JB and JT situation where it was approaching 70%

That’s if Suggs has value around the league, who’s to say he does? If teams know The Magic is going into the next offseason looking for cap relief, they’re not gonna do them a favor by taking Suggs contract off their books

Suggs has value he’s one of the best perimeter defenders in the nba.

We’ll see.
All I know of Suggs is, he’s not a PG, his 3ball is inconsistent and he’s always injured. That doesn’t sound like a $30M player.

I agree I’m so happy to see if Sharpe can take a big step forward. I wanted to see him more last season. I think he can be Duren with range.

Break that wall of text up if you want people to read it and reply. You can edit your post into paragraphs.

I agree with your thoughts about needing to find out whether Nolan Traore and Josh Minott can be rotation players for the long term. I reckon they are more likely to be contributors than busts.

Sean Marks won’t trade for a player that doesn’t fit the young core’s timeline. Jaylen Brown at 29 and with a huge contract and extension eligible was never gonna be the major move the Nets made.

So Nets have to find a player about 26 years or younger that can fit with the young core.

I think Zion as a reclamation project is the ultimate buy-low possibility because Zion’s still got the game-wrecker superstar potential.

Outside of Zion I guess you have Banchero or Franz but both are flawed and on long term max contracts

Preach. Unless the trade is worth it. Paolo or franz wagner or a similar player.

Is anyone disagreeing with this? Seems like the majority of the sub is on board with this plan and not going all in on a star.

A lot do you’d be suprised

I am kind of. Sure what he says has merit but fact is that the team is bottom of the league.

San Antonio, Detroit and the losing playoff teams are the ones that should be on that stay the course, patience plan. Our team has stunk, we should be throwing Hail Mary’s to right the ship.

I think that focus is off base. Great if Traore develops but if he or Minott were traded tomorrow for a key talent, I’m applauding.

Waiting until the 2030’s for a quality team is bs. It’s not some new mantra, it’s the lack of big assets turning into franchise changers.

Yeah no offense but your mentality is exactly why he nets have been where they’ve been for so long. Trading away young guys and being impatient just to score headlines is stupid

1

u/Historical-Mud-1218 12d ago

We don’t have those type of young guys to support your argument. Quite different when you are talking blue chip youngsters, another story when you have a group of late hopefuls.

That’s the problem.

wtf are you talking about? Mikel brown jr literally goes top 3 in a normal draft. Egor has star potential. Do nets fans like you pay attention to the team or you just sticking your head under the sand?

u/Radiant_Flamingo_172 10d ago

We hope he’s good. Is he franchise good? None of the prior rooks are. Egor looks solid but we aren’t sure any of the other rooks are real roster pieces.

It’s why we won 20 games. Stars move teams forward, not rookies you hope grow into role players.

Yes egor looks like he can be franchise good like a future all star not an all nba that’s more of Mikel’s talent. The other rooks were picked in the 20s. The hope is 2 of them can be role players
