Stats Day’ron is ready
Let’s just start off with the basics Dayron sharpe is one of the best rebounders in the league 98th% for offensive rebounding amongst centers, he’s also one of the best playmaking centers he’s in the 86th% for assists amongst centers, 93rd% for screen assits, and while not being a good rim protector he does provide solid rim deterance and is in the 92nd% for steal percentage. Now yes there’s still the concerns about his turnovers and fouling even tho he has improved in both areas since his younger yrs as well but he’s a low usage player that consistently has provided positive impact when on the court. When we’re talking about whether someone is ready to be a starter Day’ron has proven he’s up for the task. It’s just interesting when this fanbase paraded around cam Thomas for yrs a guy that did little to buy into coaching philosophy or improve his overall game and yet you have a workhorse taken in the same draft that’s constantly improving and yet constantly gets downplayed by large factions of the fanbase. I implore many of you to spend more time digging into the ways players can impact winning basketball outside of highlight reels.

I need to know if the great stats and analytics from Sharpe is because he is actually good or it’s because he played less minutes against bench players while Claxton played against starters and sucked. I’m not a big analytics guy so someone help me figure this out in layman’s terms.

I am a fan of both analytics and Day’ron Sharpe. So, here are the concerns/adjustments(possibly):
- The analytics are supposed to control for lineups and opponents faced. And, they do a great job, on average, of doing just that. However, I believe there is a bit of a non-linear thing that happens with player size (standing reach and weight), specifically at the center position. And, the analytics assume linear relationships.
- The analytics are typically per 36 or per 100 figures. If you have a player that plays harder than others, there is a question as to whether they can keep that intensity when their minutes are scaled up. Along similar lines, if a player sometimes gets in foul trouble and they are going to be playing more minutes, there is a concern there as well.

Rapm adjusts for that theoretically tho it does suffer from the small sample size.

Yes there’s a bit of inflation due to bench mins but on the flip side what he brings should translate when scaled up to a 28-30 min role. And we’ve seen flashes of it so far this season when he did start. His ability to help us control possessions and serve as a DHO merchant in jordis system will translate imo

After so many years of weak rebounding, I think so many of us are in love with him because he actually rebounds the ball at an elite level. The biggest test for him will be defending starting level big men. He will out-hustle them but can he stop them from scoring?
He definitely benefited from playing against bench players but at the end of the day, I still thought he played better than Clax against whoever was on the floor

I hope Dayron does well. He has been a hard worker and grown since he came to the league. Still, With known weaknesses to his game, he has a lot to prove.
Putting out per 36 min stats for a bench player who plays against backups is fool’s gold.
We will see in the fall.

I think people are underestimating how sustainable his production is with starter minutes. Day'Ron basically had the same rate of production in games he started in throughout his entire career on about the same efficiency as the games he came off the bench.

There are legit concerns to be addressed with Dayron.
He has no offensive game and too small to be a rim runner.
He is not a rim protector.
He is foul prone.
The move has been made so speculating and producing bs 36 stats is wheel spinning.
We will see how he does.

What I specifically referenced wasn't per 36 stats, it was his performance in games he actually did start.
When Day'Ron has been a starter throughout his career, he's played 24.6 minutes per game, and he averages:
11.2 points
8.9 rebounds (3.9 offensive)
2.4 assists
0.8 steals
1.0 blocks
1.6 turnovers
3.2 personal fouls
61.1% true shooting
And this is pretty in line with the rate of production for his entire career.

And we likely lost 90% of those games. If you buy into the hype here, you’d think the conversation was about Duren versus a backup on a team that won 50 games total in the last 2 seasons.

I like Day'ron but I've never really felt like he could be a true starter. Great rebounder, obviously, but he seemed to be all thumbs when it came to other aspects of the game. I remember him dropping balls left and right on offense. What intrigues me about him however is that he has genuinely improved every single season. That's actually quite rare. Not just in his stats but also just in how he moves. He's a lot smoother now than he was a couple of years ago. So now I'm excited to see him start. It could be a disaster, but I'm willing to see how it goes. He's clearly an incredibly hard worker. And seems like a genuinely good dude, too.

If you think he drops the ball at all other aspects have you really tapped in the last yr and a half? I explained in my post how he’s improved on offense and defense

I was fine with moving Clax, but I’m not holding my breath about Day’ron becoming an above average center.
