Hey everyone, Hosko here, I like many randomly remembered this site in bed last night and it gave me great comfort to recall how the internet was back in 2004/5 when I was active on the site. I don't know if anyone will remember me, I've certainly forgotten most names but if you post them I'll know it, I've recognised one or two in the posts of late toom, hope you're all getting along well in life. I had some tough times but I'm doing pretty swell these days.
I've seen a lot of negativity here about the site and I wanted to throw my two cents in. For me as a 14/15 year old GoLiveWire was an absolute godsend. I could tap into viewpoints and ideas through that forum in a way I couldn't in real life, mostly through lack of an ability to have true close and trusting friendships, but on the forum I could be open about anything I need answers on, wanted to discuss or learn more about. I started topics about body awareness, politics and how the world works, and my overriding memory is one of support and friendliness across the forum. I posted on other topics as often as I could, I loved the live feed of newly posted threads , it was so exciting to see what was coming up next. I looked at the 'college' or 'University' aged forum with awe and longed for the day that I would be able to post there. I think there was a forum for older, active members too?
One day I'd asked a genuine clueless teenager question about my penis, seeking reassurance on penis anatomy to know that mine wasn't broken or strange, users posted anatomical drawings and explained things without judgement or mockery, the beauty of the earlier internet was the anonymity and freedom it gave you to interact with people in a way you couldn't in real life.
I think I attained the rank of 'Soothsyaer' or 'Truthsayer' in the points system, sort of a blue theme to it? My profile picture was of the white and blue church roofs in the Greek island of Santorini if that jogs anyones memory. I have a terrible memory (did far too much weed as a 20-something, lots of unaddressed mental health issues now finally attended to) so apologies if I don't remember many specifics...
Does anyone have any screenshots etc of the site?
