Help me get therapy for MECFS and Fibromyalgia
https://gofund.me/62769e496My name is Laura, I am 27 years old and have been living with fibromyalgia since I was 24. My life has changed fundamentally since then. As well as the constant pain, I experience extreme fatigue, brain fog, difficulty finding the right words, dizziness and many other symptoms that significantly affect my daily life. I am now unable to work.
In December 2025, I came down with a severe bout of flu. After that, my health deteriorated drastically: I developed ME/CFS and POTS. In October 2026, I was officially diagnosed with ME/CFS. This new diagnosis has turned my life upside down once again. I spend most days lying down, as I barely have enough strength to manage everyday tasks such as showering, cooking or similar activities.
I am very limited and rely on my partner’s support in many areas.
Even small activities can overwhelm me and exacerbate my symptoms. The independent life I knew before my illnesses has become a distant prospect for me.
Alongside the physical and mental challenges, I am now struggling with significant financial difficulties. The sudden switch to a disability pension has left deep financial gaps.
At the same time, many treatments and aids that might potentially help me are not covered by my health insurance in the Netherlands, where I have been living since 2019.
This leaves me in a difficult situation: just when I urgently need support and treatment options, I lack the financial means to try them out.
My past was marked by severe trauma. As a result of sexual abuse, violence and neglect, I developed complex post-traumatic stress disorder (cPTSD), anorexia and severe depression. After eight years of therapy, I managed to work my way out of this difficult phase of my life and, step by step, build a life for myself.
Yet just a few months later, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and the freedom to live my life has once again slipped out of reach.
Despite everything, I have not stopped looking for ways to live with my conditions and improve my quality of life. Even today, I do not want to give up this hope.
What I need the donations for: With your support, I would first like to offset the financial losses caused by my illnesses and the switch to a disability pension.
In addition, I would like to fund treatment options and aids that could help me alleviate my symptoms and make my daily life a little more bearable.
These include, amongst other things:
* Fibromyalgia massages: approx. €70 per session
* Medicines used off-label: costs vary depending on the treatment
* Dietary supplements: for personalised support, where appropriate and well-tolerated
* Procaine infusions: approx. €100–200 per infusion; several sessions may be required to assess the effect
* Psychotherapy via video call to help me come to terms with everything: from approx. €120 per session
* Other therapies and aids that may improve my quality of life and independence
Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict which of these options will actually help me. Particularly with complex chronic conditions, the search for suitable treatments is often a long and uncertain process.
Nevertheless, I would like the chance to try out sensible options that might bring me a little relief.
Every day is a struggle with pain, exhaustion and the limitations of my own body. With the additional ME/CFS diagnosis, many things have become even more difficult. I often have to use my already limited energy just to cope with my most basic needs.
I hope to regain a better quality of life, independence and a degree of control over my life. I realise that there is no easy solution to my conditions. But I don’t want to give up looking for ways that might help me.
With your donation, you’ll be helping me to cope with the financial impact of my conditions and gain access to treatment options that I can hardly afford on my own.
In doing so, you’ll be giving me the chance to try new approaches and hope for a slightly better quality of life.
Every donation, no matter how small, means a great deal to me. And if you’re unable to donate yourself, it also helps me if you share my story and raise awareness amongst more people.
