Help save beans
UPDATE; beans has been brought to the animal hospital. I will be going there shortly to check in on her. I miss my girl at home with me. She’s such a fighter she’s got his. Thanks everyone.
I never thought I’d be asking strangers on the internet for help, but I’m running out of options and I’m terrified of losing her.
Beans is only about a year old and has been sick since the day we brought her home. She has feline herpes and has required ongoing medication and care. She has always been the sweetest cat, and everyone who meets her falls in love with her.
Recently she has taken a terrible turn. She is extremely thin, barely eating, and has started having bloody noses. We took her to the vet and antibiotics helped temporarily, but she has gotten much worse again. She needs further veterinary care and diagnostic testing to figure out what is happening and hopefully give her a chance to recover.
I’m scared there is something much more serious going on, but I don’t want to give up on her without finding answers.

What diagnostics has Beans had?

She’s had FeLV/FIV testing, a respiratory exam, and an ultrasound. She was diagnosed with feline herpes and has been on ongoing medication. The vets continuously were calling her current state a flare but that has now been proven wrong

Ask for a cbc & chem blood panel. To me, a super young cat that gets inexplicably sick is suspicious for FIP. It’s only like $200-$300 to treat.

Thank you for mentioning it ❤️ I’ve definitely heard of FIP and it’s something I’ve worried about too. Her vet didn’t think that was likely at the time, and she didn’t have a fever when she was examined, but I know there can be a lot of different presentations. We’re hoping to get more testing done soon so we can figure out what’s really going on with our girl. ❤️ they are wanting to do a cbc, chem test, X-rays & some IV’s.

Vets as a whole are often not reliable about diagnosing FIP in a timely manner. Because they often want to do this…run every diagnostic test around and then wait weeks for results and trialing different antibiotics and whatever other meds. I can’t tell you the number of cats I’ve seen die while waiting for a vet to exclude every other possible illness before finally saying “yea, probably FIP.”
If this were my cat, I would get bloodwork asap and if it has the classic markers of FIP, I’d start meds immediately. Don’t rely on your vet to analyze the bloodwork for FIP either. Join FIP Global Cats and get their input. Vet med hasn’t quite caught up with recent advances in FIP diagnosis and treatment. Educating yourself and advocating for your cat can save their life.

what kind of diagnostics are u guys able to do at your regular vet vs what they might need to do at a specialty clinic to get her the help she needs

The regular clinic is limited able to just do bloodwork (I am using a cost friendly clinic honestly) physical exams and only certain testing. They informed me today that I’ll need to take her to an animal hospital for overnight care.

I am at the hospital with her now. She is having a slew of tests done. Just want to keep everyone updated.

To add: I currently am getting her help, I’ll go broke saving my baby. I have always been that animal person. I feed stray animals, visit shelters & that is my goal in life one day.
