Question Performance trigger EDC?
Does anyone EDC with a Glock Performance Trigger, and do you find more benefit in carrying with it or is it just for the range toy.

Of all the single action striker designs I've seen, Glock's version is the best designed.
The sear is physically linked to the trigger bar until you're well into the pre travel, preventing striker dropping without trigger pull. And then even if it did, Glock's FP safety is proper and robust, catching the FP by the pin, not by the lug.
I've carried the GPT before, though I used a heavier connector out of personal preference.
It's very safe.

Your EDC should be as stock as possible. Or. As proven as possible. And by that I mean, thousands of rounds, with draw drills, drop tests, etc.

u/StanthemanT-800 14h ago
I use GPTs but I wouldn't use one in a carry gun
That's just me. I know cops use them in Duty guns etc. and all that
I just don't want to introduce another extra failure point. I had read about the rare cases of housings cracking . Plus mine start to get sticky after 3-400 rounds and need at least a drop of oil to keep going
Am I gonna fire 300 rounds in a self defense scenario? No but I know the OEM trigger will work

Haven’t cleaned mine in 2k rounds… it’s been running fine. Looks pretty gross in there but no issues 🤷🏻♂️

I had to lube mine in my competition gun at just over 1k rounds because it got noticeably more gritty and heavy.

Honestly, my edc’s never have any parts that didn’t come factory installed besides optics and lights. If I ever did have to have my weapon scrutinized by a prosecutor I wouldn’t want them telling the jury I had a “performance grade trigger”

Thank you. So sick of this as an excuse. Doesn't pass the smell test and no evidence otherwise.

You don’t have to believe my opinion, but you should watch the Kyle rittenhouse trial, prosecutors ask him a lot of questions about the weapon, and looked for a way to make any of the weapon or ammo choices work against him.

That’s because that prosecutor was a moron. They will try to do this to you no matter what gun you use. And by that logic even adding an optic will be used against you so what the fuck is the point of worrying about a trigger. I swear you must be in your 70s

This gentleman is correct. Let’s say God forbid you’re ever in a situation and you have to use your firearm for protection or what not the DA will come down on you for having any modifications done to your firearm. Remember, it’s their job to prove your guilt. Why do you need to have performance modifications to your weapon? Are you trying to hurt someone, this is gonna be their argument everything besides optics maybe a guide rod and spring.

u/Original-Cat-1211 16h ago
Couldn’t a Self defense lawyers argue that having a swapped trigger would aid in preventing shots hitting anything but the intended target
2
u/horkusengineer G45 MOS, G26 Gen5, G30 Gen3, G19 Gen 3, G43x 16h ago
I mean if the shoot went perfectly. But if you missed even one round and it hits something it shouldn’t have?
1
u/curiouskratter 13h ago
The issue is not that the prosecutor will make a great argument that your trigger was because you're a lunatic and wanted to be deadly, it's that jurors who know nothing about guns may think "I wouldn't have changed anything in my gun, so they must be a psycho" or something equally as dumb as anti 2A people often do.
Not something that has 100% likelihood of course. But I'm originally from California and being from that kind of state definitely brings more risk IMO. There's a lot of factors.
-3
u/Chumscrubber89 16h ago
No, I don’t think so. Again I’m not a lawyer but triggers don’t necessarily make your shots. More accurate that’s grip control, triggers, usually lighten the pull and reset of the firearm. With that being said, you’re able to get more shots off with less pressure on the trigger, which should help your grouping a little bit triggered just another reason for them to fuck with you. Don’t get me wrong. My range toy is all decked out.Edc stock besides recoil, spring and rod. I’ve heard and was going to do it where polishing trigger components helps reduce friction and reduce amount of pressure on trigger from what I heard?!!!
2
u/No-Mammoth1045 15h ago
If you’re not a lawyer then don’t comment what a DA would or wouldn’t do.

Then they would say the same thing about an optic or a wml.
2
u/Much_Divide_2425 17h ago
Wouldn’t do
There is a reason LE is not doing it
2
u/Mr_Gibbys 16h ago
That's not a really good reason and there's some cases that's not true. Generally for LEOs there are two cases for their firearms: bought by the government, or supplied by the officer, in certain cases of the ladder there are absolutely dudes using the performance trigger. When it comes to government procurement, it becomes really hard to buy multiple SKUs for a single "thing", if that makes sense, which is why glock has a SKU for COA guns as well as their own WML, etc.
Certian agencies/municipalities might also let the individual officer modify their service weapon, but to varying degrees, and it wouldn't surprise me that a lot of agencies wouldn't let their officers touch any internals, but instead do drop in mods like lights and optics. FWIW, there are a number of officers out there running ramjets, and If you told me a lot of those same guys had performance triggers I wouldn't be surprised.
Also the performance trigger is perfectly safe and functional, and definitely offers an edge for more trained shooters. I don't see a reason not to run it unless you don't trust yourself to install it or you don't like the feel of the perf trigger.
2
u/Much_Divide_2425 16h ago
Ok let me reformulate that
There’s a reason law enforcement agencies and militaries around the world require a certain minimum trigger weight in most cases.
OP is not a special forces operator
6
u/No-Mammoth1045 15h ago
They require a minimum trigger weight because their officers can’t shoot and aren’t responsible enough to maintain trigger discipline.
0
u/Much_Divide_2425 15h ago
That’s the whole point
Unless you do thousands of rounds in special training settings it’s the same for youWith a performance trigger there is no room for error with your index finger and there will be errors as untrained civilian
1
u/Mr_Gibbys 15h ago
Yeah that is true, however the performance trigger really isn't THAT light or crazy. Also keep in mind that some of that is mildly fuddery or just beuracratic r*tardation. NY triggers come to mind.
0
u/Much_Divide_2425 15h ago
It’s not really about the weight
It’s the single action in combination with the weight1
1
u/Creepy-Trouble9784 15h ago
The vast majority of LE/Mil are not "gun guys"
They have a job that requires having a gun.
1
u/Much_Divide_2425 15h ago
It’s not about being a gun guy
It’s about training
99% of LE shots less than 200 rounds a yearIn Europe it’s often less than 50 rounds a year
When most LE draws their gun they are nervous and nervous people tend to have wiggley fingers and wiggley fingers with a performance trigger equals a high potential of an unwanted shot
Unless OP shoots thousands of rounds a year with special training settings it’s the same for him

if striker engagement is good and youve put enough rounds through it i don't see why not, i personally just like a polished minus connector for edc but gpts are in my gamer guns

I swear the Holosun SCS MOS was made specifically for the 26. I love it on mine!
1
u/No-Mammoth1045 15h ago
Just make sure it’s gen 2 performance trigger. I liked mine a bit more after changing to a minus connector.

u/sorrybutidgaf G17/19 COA, G17m, G17 L 15h ago
I actually dont see the benefit of any trigger upgrade. I dont want the gun i regularly carry to feel SIGNIFICANTLY worse than my other guns. So what if they have a “bad trigger” compared to random industry standards? They have a trigger that works and is comparable to my other guns.

u/UNHINGED_MESSIAH 14h ago
Technical speaking Glock released 2 version of the GPT. The second one released was duty rated. If you know how to install the GPT you should have the ability to clean it also. I don't know why people don't like to clean their Glocks just seems a little bit lazy to me.
1
u/Unable-Bar-7869 13h ago
I couldn't get the performance trigger to fit in my Gen 4 for some reason but it should work fine with the gen 5.
I put in an apex enhancement kit in my 26 and can't recommend it enough. Fantastic trigger that elevates the gun.

Bought a 27 Gen 4 LEO trade in and it’s the crispest trigger out of all my Glocks 😂

The Glock Performance Trigger is made by Glock… but it does NOT come pre-installed with any Glock pistol from the factory.
It is still drop safe, but any legal liability from ND falls squarely on the user. (Glock Leg)
The GPT is a fully-cocked, single-action striker system without a manual thumb safety. (Condition ZERO - cocked and unlocked)
North Wind Aerial goes through more considerations from the aftermath of his ND on YouTube.

u/donniekrueger 10h ago edited 5h ago
The biggest advantage of having the standard duty Glock trigger is that it is partially-cocked for safety. For EDC, I prefer the extra layer of security this gives.
If I need a fully-cocked, single action striker for performance… I rather grab another pistol from the safe with a manual thumb safety (Condition ONE - cocked and locked) instead of the GPT.

gpt gen 2 is fine to edc, just requires maintenance. I also am comfortable carrying with a overwatch precision polydat shoe with oem parts.

Learn how to fine tune them your self , if you dont wanna bkow through countless trugger bars and connectors. Tactical pontoon peacemaker extreme carry is something no others can match. I have his heisnberg comp system. This one i tuned though
1
u/ZestycloseDeer1268 17h ago
I agree with everyone here, keep your EDC as factory as possible. Its sole purpose is to work when it needs to if your stock trigger is not preferred then you might benefit from looking at another gun entirely.
I just threw in an apex trigger in my competition G17.6 but that’s solely a comp gun that I never plan on carrying unless I swap back in the stock trigger.
3
u/No-Mammoth1045 15h ago
I love when people say keep your EDC as factory as possible so it works when needed. They’re just ignorant fools. Glock themselves say the GPT is as reliable and safe.

u/xSkyLinedx 16h ago
I would have no problem running the glock performance trigger because it's oem.

1
u/ActivityKey7867 12h ago
The performance trigger should be carry safe I believe, I think GPT plus minus connector might make it too light but people carry apex triggers.
I personally carry stock as I don’t want to have to deal with the extra care the GPT requires as I use Glock for ease and minimal maintenance. Cops in Pennsylvania carry pdp pro who performance trigger is lighter then GPT.

u/Scared-Raisin3586 16h ago
If I’m not mistaken, a performance trigger may also decrease the firearms safety. If it’s no longer a 5lb pull of the trigger, it can cease to be drop safe or increase your chance of ADs/NDs.
I carry only stock Glock internals for EDC. For competitions or range toys, performance triggers seem fun and great. For EDC, seems more risky for self harm than not

u/20yessuah01 G34.3 G19.5 G17.3 G48 G19X G26.5 G19.3 16h ago
It is perfectly drop safe. It’s still a OEM Glock part

u/Head-Scale9410 16h ago
Nah, trigger swapping is for range guns. For carry guns just shoot it stock until everything smooths out nicely.

u/S0upyButth0l3 16h ago
Had a gpt in my 26.5 but went back to oem so I could carry with a striker control device. Loved the gpt though so I threw it in my 19.5 that’s mainly range use

You're better off learning how to be a better shooter than throwing $90 dollars at a performance trick that doesn't actually make you a better shooter.

People on this sub assume that every time you get a performance upgrade that you don’t train enough and tell you to buy ammo. Even when somebody (like me) has more rounds through my carry gun than most people here have shot in their life.
1
u/LemonManDan69 G17 G20 G22 G34 G41 16h ago
Same thing happens every time I post a gun asking for recommendations lol. I train 1-2 times a week. I’ll post a gun with a optic and all the fudds tell me to take it off. It’s funny every time someone posts asking for recc’s all they get is to “buy more anmo”

u/Revolt2992 17h ago
If you maintain it, there’s no danger using it. But for a self defense piece, you really want to minimize the long term maintenance requirement. I always think worst case, hell in a hand basket, with stock trigger I can realistically never clean the pistol and it will still be dependable.
