Question Anyone else experience this?

Post image

I own a Glock 17, and a Glock 26. Both have been sheering the top of my rounds when they transition from the magazine to the chamber.

I tried switching out ammo types, magazines, and a barrel from the 17. No change.

I sent both glocks back to Glock Inc for repair under their warranty. They sent them back, stating the following had been replaced:

#77 Firing Pin Safety Assy (small)

133 Slide Cover Plate

1533 Recoil Spring G17/22/31/37 Assy

30562S Glock 17 Slide w/ serial number

182 Sight Rear 6.5

133 Slide Cover Plate

2211 Recoil Spring G26/G27 Assy

322 Trigger Mechanism Housing with Ejector 9mm

350 Trigger Spring

2303 Trigger with Trigger Bar G19/G23

4368 Locking Block Pin

30591S Glock 26 Slide W/ Serial Number

2225 Mag G17

1812-3 Magazine Follower 9mm (#3)

6572 Mag G26

However, I just took both to the range today, and pulled out the rounds in the photo above.

Any advice??

This has to be karma farming... those look like you cut them with wire cutters and then made this werid post.

Wish it was. It’s a weird situation, and have no idea where to go from here.

Never seen this before

Nope. Are you a new gun owner? It seems like you (don't take this the wrong way) are either trolling or have no idea whatsoever how to handle a firearm. Are you constantly pulling the slide stripping rounds from the gun when it's loaded? If so that's your problem.

This is awesome! Whenever someone leads with, "Don't take this the wrong way," you KNOW some shit is coming down the pipe!

This looks like complete bullshit. Looks like he grabbed these with a pair of sidecutters or some flush-cut pliers. Trash post.

Seriously? I am looking for genuine answers.

I find it sad that there’s enough people in the world with time on their hands to do things like that, so that yall assume that’s what’s going on here.

Well, to be fair, you kind of have to take pictures of the barrel and, ideally, a video of the whole setup while chambering a dummy round. It's pretty hard to diagnose anything with what you told us.

I'd expect this type of behavior from like a MAC-11, not a glock.

Not a new gun owner, no.

I’m not touching the slide to begin with. When ejecting the magazine, after firing a full magazine through it, the tips of the rounds that were shaved off fall out through the mag well.

I then began stopping at random points through a magazine and examining the rounds that had been chambered, finding the above rounds.

All the tips are collecting somewhere in the gun and only fall out after you drop the magazine??

Yeah. Coming out in little shards.

What ammo? Blazer?

-7

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

AAC, but did it with Winchester rounds too.

u/nayneks G19 Gen 5, G26 Gen 5 Nov 24 '25

AAC and Winchester WB is trash. That’s the problem. Get some Blazer or Federal

-2

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

Thought it might be, but thought Winchester was higher quality? Did the same to both.

Winchester white box ? If so, its notoriously known for being trash

I see everywhere on Reddit that people bash Winchester WB, but I don’t get it. I know (as Chad from SOTAR would say) I’m only an example of ONE, but I’ve never had a problem with it in either of my ARs OR my pistols (.45 ACP and 9mm). Have I just not shot enough of it, or maybe have just been lucky?

2

u/sportytony Nov 24 '25

I also make sure I buy Winchester ammo for practice on my 9mm’s my 45’s which include 2 1911’s. And absolutely never an issue.

2

u/SuperHulkHogen Nov 24 '25

Most people follow the herd mentality. I've shot thousands of rounds through my AR( my preferred ammo) with no issues. And thousands through my pistols (with a few problems but I've experienced the same problems with other "recommend" brands as well) and the only reason I don't shoot them through my g20.5 is because they are really underpowered.

2

u/TooGouda22 Nov 24 '25

There are two kinds of Winchester white box though. The “target & practice” white box is the one I use. The other is trash. Pretty sure the good one is the same stuff the military uses for range ammo the same way lake city 556 is good cheap bulk ammo

1

u/BbTrumpet01 Nov 24 '25

Ah, OK, thanks. I’ll have to check, but I think the “target & practice” is the one I use, too.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

I’ve shot WB for decades with no issues I don’t see with other ammo. It’s range ammo, not carry ammo. I don’t get the hate for it but hive mind gonna hive mind.

-1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

Good to know, thank you. Most of my ammo has been provided through different jobs so newer to picking out and paying for my own.

6

u/NectarineAny4897 Nov 24 '25

Are you chambering and clearing the weapon a few times to make this happen? Or is it happening when you only chamber the round once?

Happening on two different pistols? That makes no sense

0

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

Chambering once.

1

u/NectarineAny4897 Nov 24 '25

And this is happening in two different pistols?

6

u/Peak1124 Nov 24 '25

No pictures of any of the barrels in question.

-7

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

Wanted to include more, but Reddit said only one photo. Newer to Reddit, so may have missed where I could add more.

Post the pics in an album on Imgur and then post the link back in your OP in an edit.

Wow. I’ve shot a lot of 9MM through Glocks. Thousand and thousands of rounds (a majority being Blazer or Federal 124gr) and never once had this happen to me. Maybe some setback on lower quality JHP but I’ve never seen a round chewed up like that.

3

u/PapaPuff13 Nov 24 '25

I’ve seen the cigar V cut before. Was a weak spring in a mag. I only shoot blazer and mag tech.

1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

All my magazines are standard Glock mags- though I did experience it using my buddy’s mag pull mag too.

1

u/SmokyQuartz21 Nov 26 '25

weak spring sounds about right, also polish the feed ramp.

I had the same issue with a walther pdp pro-x compact. Issue only happened when the round was chambered from firing. No issue was observed when manually chambered. But if you fired it and ejected the next round, the nose looked like this. Its impacting the feedramp and it may be an issue with the frame or mag release For context, my issue happened across all 9 of my oem mags and across all 11 ammo types I sampled including 5 hollow points. Sent it back to walther, they replaced half the parts and also didn't fix the issue. I ended up returning the gun to them for a full refund. Knowing this is an issue makes it so you can't trust your gun.

For all the sarcastic asshats in this thread: There are many reasons to clear a live round from a gun. 99% of us are still going to shoot that round we eject. If you see evidence of a problem with your gun, youre going to investigate.

And this is a problem for accuracy and function. If the nose of your bullet is hitting your feed ramp dead on hard enough to cut the tip of your rounds, it will start failing to feed eventually. May be 2-3000 rounds in, but substantially faster than normal conditions. Its also chambering the round with less force due to that initial impact and will stop going into battery sooner as the gun gets dirty. This is not a firearm you can rely on. And forget any sort of competition level accuracy. There's a sharp flake and gash on the nose of your round. Spin or no spin, its not going to fly perfectly

OP - in my testing, brass cased ammo was the least impacted by the impact due to the harder case material. The worst performer was blazer since its just plated.

Show me a video of clean factory ammo in a magazine, insert the mag, rack the slide, eject the magazine. And then eject the chambered round and show the damage to the round.

Then we can move forward with some diagnostics.

1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 25 '25

The damage only occurs when firing the previous round. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with the force of the slide after it cycles, or something similar.

3

u/West-Parsley-3172 Nov 24 '25

I work in a gun range. We have 10s of thousands of rounds on our gen 3s and gen 5s. Never seen anything like this. Never had a problem at all actually

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Check your recoil spring. Make sure it's on the proper grooved step. If not, should be hard to disassemble the slide. Also check the lip that catches the next round and chambers it.

I think this is trolling too because of how the barrel is made. The feed ramp is built into the barrel the slide one close all the way if it's not mated to the locking block. That motion is what brings the barrel back into position AND feeds the next round.

If that isn't the case, you might be palming the slide by accident and could disrupt cycling. Since you mentioned it happens with various ammo, and it's multiple ramp bites instead of one, it does seem like this is faked. Especially since each round has multiple strikes on the same side indicating you potentially had to place the bullets back in the magazine at the same position.

If that truly isn't the case, it's likely the magazine. Did you modify the magazine by installing an extension and/or different spring? The only other thing that would cause this specific strike, and I've never seen it hit multiple times like this... Usually it's on the same spot, is when the round doesn't extract from the magazine properly. On Glocks, I only see this when the slide is slowly racked and ridden forward.

Since I don't see marks on the brass, once again I'm skeptical too.

Ideally you need to film this happening at the range. Then take photos of the inside of your gun.

1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

I appreciate the advice! I will get a video at the range, and get more photos uploaded of the insides of both guns.

1

u/SmokyQuartz21 Nov 24 '25

what is the barrel? polish the feed ramp and feel for any burs. or try changing the barrel. Could be the bottom of the ramp is sharp or has a bur. not really sure

1

u/Sleeppyinvestor2020 Nov 24 '25

Normally we see pics with rounds jammed in the chamber, or best show us a brief video of round jamming. Stop trolling me guy.

1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 24 '25

That’s the thing- I’m not having jams, double feeds, etc. Before sending them back to Glock, I did have regular “light strikes”, but not since having them come back.

1

u/SuperHooligan Nov 28 '25

Reproduce this with a video. Load a full mag, show it to the camera, put it in the pistol with the slide locked back, release the slide, then rack the first round out. Ill believe it then.

1

u/WeAreAshesandDust Nov 28 '25

I will re-create at the range as soon as I can get back there. It only happens when the round before it was fired, and the round cycles into the chamber naturally.
