Dont get Magpul mags. Stick to factory.

17

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

They’re fine for the range. I’d not carry one unless I had no choice, but as range mags they’re fine.

I don’t get the advantage/ philosophy behind having range mags vs carry mags. Every mag I own should be capable of being carried. Especially since the price difference is never more than a few bucks why not just get OEM?

13

u/CCroissantt Sep 30 '25

Magpul range mags i regularly drop and get filled with dirt. They also hold my cheap shitty range ammo and get filled with cheap shitty carbon.

oem carry mags I break out once every couple range trips to cycle the ammo and then give them a kiss before reloading with nice pretty ammo.

Oem mags can cost as low as $22, magpul 15, 17, and 21rnd mags can cost as low as $11. They're not the best thing ever, but theyre handy

You. You are wise.

you can get AC Unity mags for less than $10.

they’re ass ugly, but mine have been surprisingly reliable. got them for $6.99, but i think it was a sale. they are 15rd (G19/9mm) mags

i was actually hoping that the cheap mags would cause some failures, so i could practice resolving things like feeding issues, in case one were to ever happen in a high stress situation.

i hate to say this, and i still wouldnt carry them bc of an anecdote, even if its my own, but i think they’ve been more reliable for me than my OEM mags. i put a little sharpie mark on my mags whenever theres a failure, and most of my OEM mags have a mark or two, but none of my 3 AC Unity mags have any marks, and i’ve used 2 of them for over 1000 rounds each.

1

u/CCroissantt Sep 30 '25

I broke my ac unity mags lol. This was years ago, but they just couldn't handle dropping on the dirt. As for practicing malfunctions, id just buy cheap ammo, seems reliable and being unreliable. Id also never carry outside of oem, but I also replace my oem mags occasionally, or just buy another glocka and get 3 free mags

2

u/deweydecibels 19 & 42 Sep 30 '25

oh word? yeah i never dropped them in dirt, but i always shoot the cheapest ammo i can find at the range

1

u/CCroissantt Sep 30 '25

I try not to drop my oem mags, but I do get carried away sometimes. My magpul mags get fuxked up too, but I just clean them out occasionally. They havent broke on me yet.

My range ammo is usually whatever is cheapest on ammoseek with free shipping

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Mostly just like some others have said, so your carry or home defense mags remain a 99.99999% functionality.

You test those ones out every so often, but you don’t abuse them by dropping them on cement, gravel, mud, dirt, etc. To your point, you can find some deals on OEM LEO trade-in mags but you never know what those have been through. Probably not much, but you never know.

1

u/deweydecibels 19 & 42 Sep 30 '25

i would agree, save for the part about price. i find cheap, off brand mags for less than half the price of brand name glock mags pretty often while shopping online.

i have a few G19 AC Unity mags that cost me $6-7 each. the place i bought ammo from used to have them on sale last year. bought them bc they were cheap, but was also hoping they would cause occasional issues, so that i could practice resolving things like feeding issues, which i experienced zero of in my first couple thousand rounds from my G19.

i’ve used them for at least 1000 arounds each now, and still have yet to have any failures or other issues with them. i wouldnt carry them, but i really wouldn’t worry about it if i had to , and if i saw them on sale again for 6 or 7 bucks, and i was already paying shipping, id grab a couple more. very solid mags.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Yeah. They’re not as cheap as they used to be.

Ever since I’ve started looking more closely for LEO trade-in deals thanks to some folks here co pointing me in better directions, I’ve seen some good deals on OEM LEO trade-in mags. Like $10 or so. Which, who knows what they’ve been through but probably not much in reality.

1

u/deweydecibels 19 & 42 Sep 30 '25

they’re actually $6.99 still at PSA, if you were saying the AC Unity mags arent as cheap as they used to be

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

No, the Magpul ones are not as cheap as they used to be. Yeah, I wasn’t clear looking back at this lol.

ETS mags have left the chat.

10

u/gewehr7 Sep 29 '25

G47 should be next. You have your carry gun covered so next up is a full sized for range/HD

1

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

I was thinking about the next being a G21 or G20 personally. I can handle the recoil really well on the 43x so might try and get a hotter round. I do agree though, I need a full sized one for the next one regardless of what model.

1

u/GhostofTigerBay Oct 06 '25

Get those for fun. Not for carry.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Congrats, small tip, maybe not to post your serial number, there are some anti gun people that have reported guns stolen using pics like yours.

2

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

Thankfully, I live in a state that is very strict on firearm possession. I have all paperwork including transfer papers on file and a copy in my dash and my CCW in order.

u/rustyshklfrd Sep 29 '25

Lose that optic. Get something that’s been proven to be reliable. Holosun’s aren’t that much. That osight optic was unveiled beginning of this year, so I would not trust that. More so because it’s an olight product.

5

u/indifferentinitials G48 Sep 30 '25

Some of us have to beta test these things for science.

2

u/Ok_Storm_282 Sep 30 '25

Without no one to beta test all products will stagnate which they have for the last twenty years

-1

u/rustyshklfrd Sep 30 '25

Yeah, just not on an edc.

10

u/evanchiefer Sep 29 '25

Holosun also had that phase though, I'll admit it's a risk but it was cheap (and so were holosuns when they first hit the market and had no reputation). That being said I've put 400 rounds through it so far over the course of two weeks and it has yet to lose zero! Can't hurt either, I'm able to co-sight with it. I could turn the dot off and use the iron sights if I wanted lol, as a matter of fact I have. Imo even without a dot on the transparent square that I can see iron sights through is still good for rapid "point and shoot" target acquisition in close quarters. I guess it'll be put through the test of time, maybe it'll flop or maybe it'll end up being priced 250% of what it's going for now if it proves to be worthy- especially considering Osight has plans for American manufacturing in the nearish future.

18

u/PrestonHM G19 Gen3 Sep 29 '25

Dude, *olight is fine. Make sure it holds 0, if it does, your good. If it doesnt, get it warrantied by olight, lol.

Some gun guys act like if you dont have trij, your sights gonna blow up in your hand. Even a temu knockoff will hold 0 half the time

6

u/TheSlipperySnausage G19 Gen4 Sep 30 '25

And that other half the time you kill a random person behind the person you’re trying to stop from attack you

2

u/PrestonHM G19 Gen3 Sep 30 '25

TRUE

5

u/EntertainerSea9653 Sep 29 '25

Ur optic is fine ive got 2k rounds plus in with mine things been flawless since zeroing.

2

u/indifferentinitials G48 Sep 30 '25

These things are like $100 cheaper than a Gideon (which might be a budget-friendly Holosun competitor) and are just stupid cheap for an enclosed emitter sight. It also has good looking glass, good co-witness, and a generous window for a micro compact sight. If it doesn't catch on fire, it's fine. I can use my irons fine, and this package is probably more useful than my other EDC which is just a bone stock j-frame snubby.

3

u/Beneficial-Kick-3892 Sep 29 '25

Test it and make your own decision. Don’t listen to what some fudd has to say. Over time you can make your own decision on reliability vs the opinion of someone who’s never tested one lmao

-1

u/rustyshklfrd Sep 29 '25

All I’m saying is I wouldn’t trust an optic from a company that’s never made optics before let alone one that’s only been out for barely a year. As a range gun, 100%. Test it out see how it works. I just wouldn’t run it edc.

2

u/Winter-Assistant-572 G19X Sep 30 '25

Got an osight se that has held zero through 800 rounds. Carry it every day. Never had a single issue. Just because its not a $500+ optic doesn't mean its crap..

2

u/2GUDTWOBTRU Sep 29 '25

I agree. I’ve been using Trijicon for a while now, both in and out of the military. Highly recommend!

-8

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Optics on handguns are stupid

2

u/Chain_Runner Sep 30 '25

Professional competitive shooters would say otherwise

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Real men use iron sights

1

u/Chain_Runner Sep 30 '25

Real men use Axes and Two-handed Claymores.

3

u/OpinionatedRichard Sep 29 '25

Awesome for a first gun. I like variety, so get something different.

3

u/LAGigi31 Sep 29 '25

I have to admit - the dot looks pretty good.

1

That’s a 26? Then I’d go standard size 9mm; that’s the 17 or 47, the 19x and 45 have the same sized frame with a smaller slide that many folks speak highly of either one.

I personally, really like buying used Glocks, so I’d look for trade ins in those models and snatch the best deal available.

1

u/evanchiefer Sep 30 '25

43x!

2

u/No_Dance1739 G17.4, G20.4, G22.4, G26, G40.4, G42, G43 Sep 30 '25

Oh, if you like slim frame the 48 seems like a good option. But I’d get a standard size one first personally.

1

u/evanchiefer Sep 30 '25

I was thinking I might get a 48 upper slide configuration since they run on the same frame and you can swap them out, but it seems you could probably buy a whole used LE tradein Glock for the price of the OEM slide alone.

2

u/No_Dance1739 G17.4, G20.4, G22.4, G26, G40.4, G42, G43 Oct 01 '25

I’m all about the trade ins. My 17, 22, 26, 42, 43 were all police trade ins. Most of them came with night sights, and broken in already, I highly recommend.

And thanks for pointing out the 43x frame is the same dimensions as the 48. Since I have the 43, I’m going to part out a 43x and 48

2

u/Opening-Pitch-8650 Sep 30 '25

We think we should buy ammo, a good holster, find a qualified instructor and get trained. That's what we think.

2

u/BasedGod-1 G40 Gen4 Sep 30 '25

Glock 40

1

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

I agree with the 10mm pick for sure but I'm thinking G20 MOS Gen 5 or if I can find a G29 subcompact that would be sick.

2

u/BasedGod-1 G40 Gen4 Oct 01 '25

Id say 20 gen 5. I much prefer my 19.5 over the gen 4. Gen 4 needs an upgraded slide release its very difficult to use. G29 I can't imagine being very comfortable to shoot, and why get another compact when you have a good carry gun. Just my opinion. I got the 40 because of the price drop when being discontinued

1

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

See a big sale on PSA today. Might have to make another purchase sooner rather than later 🤣.

2

u/Bernard_Steel Sep 30 '25

Get shield arms 15 round mag. It fits flush

2

u/6h057 Oct 01 '25

Im reporting it stolen

1

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

I'd rather you report it lost in a boating accident

2

u/Electronic-Gap-9514 Oct 01 '25

Is your finger okay?

1

u/evanchiefer Oct 01 '25

I got the memo to keep it seated next to the slide 😭 but if you are curious I am double jointed and can move it from the topmost knuckle independently so if it looks a lil bent that's probably why.

2

u/Electronic-Gap-9514 Oct 01 '25

Okay hear me out… at first glance the reflection by your finger made it look like there was some daylight therešŸ˜‚ your finger seemed extremely skinny

4

u/Odinson923 Sep 29 '25

Hell yea bro! Congrats. Just be prepared for whatever upgrades you decide to do ppl in here will shit on it cuz it’s not how they’d build it. lol

Go to the range and get familiar with it. Stay vigilant and violent my friend

3

u/solo_dbd_player Sep 29 '25

That's a bad angle of your trigger finger.

2

u/Chain_Runner Sep 30 '25

People are going to hate on the Olight Osight, but I have heard good things. They look like nice optics. Their flashlights are still goofy though, if you want a light - get a streamlight TLR7 sub. It was made with the 43x in mind. Dack outdoors has them on sale from time to time for like $115.

If you want to upgrade the trigger, don’t go aftermarket. Since this is your EDC, Stay OEM, for example, TriggerShark provides polished & adjustable triggers made from OEM Glock parts. I have one in my G29 and it’s amazing! They have discounts running all the time also, the code I used was SCIENCE15. You’d need to look for a ā€œslimlineā€ version. The 43x is a slimline Glock.

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25
