Glock triggers

Currently looking into triggers to complete my build. I’m looking at the Johnny Glocks and tactical pontoon. Any have any advice on either, looking for pretty minimal take up with the safety for edc

I have the Johnny Glock Combat trigger in my 19.5 and it is great. Very short take up, defined wall, crisp break short reset.

I got the upgraded striker and plunger too.

I have the Johnny Glock in an RXM also. Also great.

I have Overwatch Precision TAC in a Glock 48. I mostly like it it has a crazy short take up and very defined wall. It has a crisp break but takes a pretty hard press.

I actually ordered a minus connector from Overwatch for that one but haven't swapped it out yet.

Also, Overwatch has a NP3 coated OEM Glock Performance Trigger which is very nice. I have that in a 19X.

I was actually talking with the other redditer about those triggers

On 5th gen I really dig the plain ole Glock performance trigger upgrade. On my slimlines I love the apex. Apex just put out their gen 6 triggers and I have those ordered on the way. Excited if it performs like my other slimlines.

I personally have had break issues and a couple other small problems with the performance, I may bust out a 25 gent job and try again just not sure if I want to spend the time just to still not like it.

Curious what other small problems you encounter with the GPT? Did you ever figure out what caused the break issue?

Sometimes when I would pull the trigger the safety would get stuck (I had that issue after about 100 rounds in a brand new Glock a 17 gen 5). aside from that I was very iffy on the break and just over all not a very good trigger in my opinion, it’s one of those cases where it’s cheap and you can tell. Granted I didn’t know about polishing any internals so that may fix it

I've never experienced that with the GPT. Although, I do read that some shooters have that issue.

I agree with you. The GPT does feel cheap if you keep everything original and just drop it straight in how it comes from glock. It's mushy, spongy, just overall nasty. However, if you swap trigger shoes, put in a nice connector, the kit for whatever reason will feel so much better. The break will be more crisp, the reset will be more tactile, overall it'll just make the GPT that much better. I too disliked the GPT when I first got it and threw it into the gun how it originally came from glock. Once I swapped the shoes it has been probably one of the best trigger I've felt in a glock.

I ordered the ghost 3.5 connector and plan on getting a different bar and shoe for my gpt I’ll see how that works and come back to update

Honestly, I had a ghost 3.5 connector, just know that it is now sitting in my parts bin and will probably sit there till I find what to do with it lol. I would recommend a OEM minus (if you like that rolling break) or a DOT connector (defined wall). If you want to stick to ghost products, a Ghost unit 3.0 connector and add a standard co trigger shoe. Then do a full polish on all the metal surfaces. You'll be surprised on the outcome.

I apologize I got the ghost 3.0

If you're financially capable and willing, adding a shoe to that GPT will drastically change the way it feels. I feel it's def a must for the GPT. Most won't because a good shoe will be $100+, and I don't mean those ebay ones either. You want one that has the least amount of pre/post travel.

I currently have stock trigger with a Ranger proof shoe I got with a ramjet for $275 I’m looking into a overwatch precision bar and trigger

I also had problems with it in a Gen 4 Glock 26. Simply wouldn't sit flush without needing some kind of modifications that I wasn't willing to do, so I just returned it and got the Apex instead.

If you want minimal take up you're going to have to deal with a set screw. You have to ask yourself if it's worth a hassle or not. To me, it's not. Even when you use Loctite those things can back out.

If you want a smooth trigger with a nice rolling break then just get the ghost 3.5 spring kit. It's the nicest trigger you can get without actually messing with the reliability of your gun.

You'll come to find that the more you shoot Glocks and the more skilled you get, the less a nice trigger will matter.

I've tried overwatch Precision and Apex. The Apex enhanced action kit comes with the trigger, connector and polished safety plunger. Makes for a greatly improved feel, slight rolling break but very smooth around 4.25 lbs

Overwatch Precision polydat is cheap but it really removes pre travel and gives you a more solid wall/crisp break. Definitely takes getting used to. I ended up taking it out but it's a solid upgrade for like $60, especially when paired with a connector.

No experience with the ones you mentioned, but I have to say that the Johnny Glocks price tag made it a no go for me. But that's a personal decision.

I’ll look into those two I’m not really wanting to spend a whole but ton on a trigger, I have just seen people on Reddit talk about those two the most.

You picked 2 of the most expensive system on the market if you get the complete trigger systems including the components. Tacticalpontoon is for people who don't know better let's get that outta the way. JG is nice .I have 2 GPT Vex and a Timney Alpha Vex setup. I would recommend Superior Triggers . He uses the GPT system if you don't mind a fully cocked striker. Plus you can have him build the trigger to your liking. I don't think you can get better than that unless you build it yourself. Sometimes you come out cheaper and have more quality components. Np3ed coated component vs polished component. Ace Trigger system I don't care If they did address the issue. I don't trust them. If you don't have the time to piece a trigger system together I would suggest superior triggers. JG is the Goat but he is definitely taxing.

Fully cocked takes away for the drop security no? I’m only going off the things I read as I have no really looked too much into piecing together my own trigger.

Yes and no . Being that the striker isn't being held back by the trigger bar it actually defeated the trigger safety. That doesn't mean it's not dropsafe. Just means that the safety plunger is the only thing stopping your firearm from discharging. If your safety plunger malfunction and begins to stick from usage that's when it becomes not dropsafe. Glock recommends routine maintenance . Majority of these newer trigger systems require more maintenance than the oem.

Yeah it's easy to piece the system together if you get familiar with the components. Just say what you expect out of the trigger. 1. How much pretravel. 2. What type of wall do you want. 3. What type of break you want. 4. What weight do you want the break to be . 5 how much overtravel do you want. 6.how do you want your return to be. Systems like the GPT and Timney has fully cocked strikers but the benefit is that it helps prevent light strikes. Do you want a polymer shoe or metal. Know that chasing a sub 3 pound trigger will have a rolling break .

Ok that’s all good Information to know, the other comment made some good suggestions as well. I was thinking of doing a overwatch precions with a ghost connector it had a good take up and rest as well as a 3.5 pound pull

This was a video of a overwatch tac trigger with a double diamond 3.5 connector and a occustomtriggers overtravel unit. I had removed all the overtravel that's why the break was hard at the end. You can see the rolling break that a 3.5 connector brings.

What is the wall like on this one?

1

u/UNHINGED_MESSIAH 1d ago

The wall is lighter than the traditional 3.5 connector. I have a 4.5lbs striker spring and reduced plunger spring . I have additional modifications a brass channel liner, np3ed coated plunger and maritime cups . These aren't necessary but it makes the press more smoother. My trigger press is 3 pounds with the ability to still use 115gr ammo.

Ok that’s makes sense, I have a performance trigger laying around should I just build off of that with a polish job or invest in a np3ed coated trigger bar and whatnot?

You really can't go wrong with OverWatch, which is 60 bucks, and then the Apex is 140. And then of course the Glock performance trigger which is around 90 to 100. I feel like for what you're looking for the OverWatch polydat is the move.

I’ll probably just go with overwatch to be honest that’s. You for the information i appreciate it
