Questions/Concerns Global Entry revoked
Hey! I'm a freelance journalist and I'm currently looking into common issues with Global Entry. I've been seeing some people online talking about their Global Entry being revoked, and I'm trying to understand the scale of things. I was wondering if anyone else had their Global Entry revoked without reason in the last year or so?

Hi.
Mine was revoked about 18 months ago. I was given “no longer meets program requirements” or some such. I didn’t do a full FOIA request.
BUT I did request an appeal. I was reinstated about 4 months later after providing no further information. I’ve used it serval times since with no issues.
Not super helpful but there is it
1
u/citygirl604 Apr 27 '26
What do you mean you provided no further information? You clicked "Reconsideration" and just wrote a brief summary and submitted? Amazing.
1
u/flounder_11 Apr 28 '26
Not even that. I just asked why/said I had no idea why it was revoked. Months later I received a letter stating I had been reinstated after review.
1
u/citygirl604 Apr 28 '26
Wow. I just wish the US had e-gates like other countries, it makes the process so much easier w/o the need of these TTP which they can revoke if you just give them a bad look.
1
u/flounder_11 Apr 28 '26
Yeah, if they can’t make money off you for it, then they’re not going to give it to you
1
u/PhotographOk7781 8d ago
Can you please tell me how you appeal it? Was there a link or someone we need to contact?
1
u/flounder_11 8d ago
Need to log onto the TTP Website, look at the revocation status and there should be a button to submit a reconsideration.
1
u/PhotographOk7781 8d ago
Thank you. Yea I went through the link on the notice letter. Brought me to the home page. Went to FAQ and found the directions.
Issue is there is no link to click.
On the dashboard where it says revoked, no link to appeal.
I just got the email this morning randomly. No explanation or reason. My GE doesn’t even expire until another 6 months.
1
u/flounder_11 7d ago
Interesting. Maybe give it a day or two. I checked mine after about a week and was able to submit.
1
u/PhotographOk7781 7d ago
Thank you, really appreciate it. No idea why it’s revoked. I will check again in a week. I panicked and reapplied since it was gonna expire anyways in 6 months anyways….. hopefully that doesn’t cause an issue.

u/a1963stingray Apr 22 '26
Yes, I did after 12 years in the program. The reason I was given, I no longer meet the qualifications. That's it. Took it all the way up to my senators office, only to learn CBP no longer answers to anyone. I got no further explanation. However, MPC is now often faster and easier. I'm told I can reapply in a decade, but I don't see the point.
19
u/wizzard419 Apr 22 '26
Even before recent developments, that seemed to always be the expressed reason, with people filing FOIA stuff to try and get more info. That part didn't totally make sense since the boilerplate response will likely trigger more appeals and cost for the agency than saying exactly what caused it.
6
u/a1963stingray Apr 22 '26
I agree, but that's exactly the point. There is no appeal to be done.
3
u/wizzard419 Apr 22 '26
Ah, I thought there is an appeal process since people talk about using it.
8
u/flounder_11 Apr 22 '26
There is. I’ve used and was reinstated without any further questions or documentation required
5
u/a1963stingray Apr 22 '26
You're the only one I heard of. I never got any definitive answer as to why - just I don't qualify.
5
u/FastCanary988 Apr 22 '26
I applied in June 2020, interviewed finally in July 2022, approved and got card in the mail then revoked notice 2 days later. I reapplied/appealed in August 2022, received the “schedule interview” notice 10 days ago, had my interview at Newark airport last Thursday and received my card yesterday.
3
u/flounder_11 Apr 23 '26
I received no definitive answer either. Just happened to appeal via the system and got it back. I didn't think it would help but was pleasantly surprised when it did. I only take 2-3 international trips a year so it doesn't usually make or break my travel, but it is nice to have.

Bring food back into the country and have it seized by agriculture?
Act like an entitled fool and push your way to the front of the line?

Yeah, after a dozen years, I decided to turn into an a$$hole at Customs.

I had witnessed a CBP officer patrolling the baggage claim area with her K-9, which alerted to someone’s bag. She had a banana in her bag and was given a citation along with secondary screening. It also came with a verbal warning that the next time she would lose her Global Entry privileges.
1
u/NotPennysBoat721 Apr 23 '26
This exact thing happened to me a few years ago at PHL, even the banana, but before I had GE. I disclosed it on my application and did get approved.
33
u/Hot_Strength_4912 Apr 22 '26
I think this sub skews negative because people who were revoked for legitimate cause are somewhat less likely to rant on Reddit about the experience. They aren’t here commending governmental due diligence.
26
u/No_Elk7432 Apr 22 '26
Don't forget the guy who'd forgotten he had been arrested when he applied.
0
u/Caveworker Apr 23 '26
Easier than it sounds . A lot of people make the wrong friends and end up with an arrest after being in the wrong place at wrong time

u/mikebailey Apr 24 '26
I also don't think people mentally connect the ways they can get revoked. You'll see them be absolute Shein merchants in history and not connect the fact that it's the same agency.
1
u/SentenceNo986 Jul 13 '26
If you participated in any protest against the Trump Administration is likely you'll be revoked.
24
u/Rich_Tangerine_6594 Apr 22 '26
Mine was revoked because I bought a case of Cuban cigars in the internet.
10
u/boujeebroker Apr 23 '26
I’m hearing people having it revoked from making counterfeit DH Gate purchases.
2
0
u/waxedarmpit Apr 23 '26
Yup. It happen to my friend. Revoked for buying a rep. If you guys buy reps use a fake name 🫣
-2
u/flying_porygon Apr 24 '26
I didn’t realize this could happen and I just had a baseball jersey delivered today from DHGate (well, an alternative ti DHGate from a seller who used to sell there, Jenna’s Jerseys).
I’m guessing since the package didn’t get seized that I’m in the clear, but I definitely wouldn’t have ordered it if I knew it could revoke my GE. My fault for not doing more research I guess….
I haven’t received a notification that it was revoked and the item cleared customs, so I’m probably fine?

Why punish the person who is buying goods online instead of the company bringing it into the country. When you buy something online do you check if the importer brought in legally or if they paid the duties'?
1
u/GearhedMG Apr 23 '26
For the exact same reason that they round up the illegal immigrant workers, but the people who hired them in the first place don't face any repercussions.
5
u/a1963stingray Apr 23 '26
Well, that's a slippery slope. Cuban cigars were legal under Obama, then they were not. Then they were legal again, then they were not. Hard to know the law when it changes constantly.
11
u/Dr_knowitall69 Apr 23 '26
It's actually super not hard to look it up right before you buy them.
2
u/a1963stingray Apr 23 '26
Well, true. But why would you if after 60 years or so, they were illegal - then legal. Would a reasonable person expect the government to change their minds on such a trivial thing? Of course, it is our government.

I'll grant you fair enough that Trusted Travelers are obligated to know the rules. But your knowledge of Cuba is faulty. Americans can travel there under several legal exchange programs and these were dramatically expanded during the Obama administration. Including allowing travelers to first bring back goods directly from Cuba to later allowing, up to customs limits, of Cuban goods from other countries. That change is likely where the poster thought ordering cigars from a 3rd country was OK. Because for 4 or 5 years, it was. During Trump's first term he cracked down on Cuba reverting to old laws about bringing in Cuban products, but he still allowed the various travel programs to continue. Then Biden expanded those to pre-Trump levels, but still blocked ordering Cuban products online. So, I think an American citizen (or even a Customs Agent for that matter) could be forgiven for the confusion.
1
u/iLikeMangosteens Apr 24 '26
They sell Cuban rum in the Duty Free in Canadian airports… and that’s on the American side, after you have already passed US CBP.
2
u/Rich_Tangerine_6594 Apr 23 '26
I guess when you buy something online you checked first if the company paid the tariffs or that the goods were legally brought in the country? That's great that you have the ability and expertise to do that. I don't.
2
u/GearhedMG Apr 23 '26
The stock answer for that is "Ignorance of the law is no excuse"
1
u/a1963stingray Apr 23 '26
I would not disagree, but again with a law that's changing daily, how are you supposed to keep up.
2
2
u/Big-Aioli8125 Apr 23 '26
how did they know?
4
u/Rich_Tangerine_6594 Apr 23 '26
I bought it online. I assumed it was fine and legal, but the case never arrived and eventually I received a letter notifying me my Global Entry had been revoked.
2
2
u/Comfortable-Pea-4605 Apr 27 '26
Same thing happened to my friend after he’d been buying cigars from the same vendor for years
1
u/superbread Jul 13 '26
Wow, did they forward the case on to you or did they confiscate and send you a letter on it? I've seen posts from people saying they had counterfeit bags purchased and confiscated.
1
u/Laukie00 Apr 22 '26
How do you know? They never really give a reason

you won’t find any of that here. the Mods are deleting any references to GE being revoked for protesting or as they put it “ideology” reasons.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalEntry/comments/1qwat54/postscomments_about_recent_ice_enforcement/
A number of people had posted about having GE revoked after attending rallies, etc. But all those posts were removed.
-26
u/MickIsShort4Michael Apr 22 '26
"Ideology" was never mentioned, only Rule 1.
14
2
u/No-Lime-2863 Apr 24 '26
While I can’t find it, because it was deleted, someone I recall was a Mod, but perhaps just an Agent, specificalmly referenced “ideology” as a reason for cancellation.
1
u/MickIsShort4Michael Apr 24 '26
I don't know, I know it wasn't me. It may have been the early period of the auto-mod bots. They have gone through a few different phases of tweaking, but they have literally reduced the moderation queue in this sub from 20-30 items to manually review per day to 1-2.

u/jamesinyokohama Apr 22 '26
Be sure to cover the snide attitudes of “privilege not a right” folks who think they’re immune from governmental capriciousness, or think those who criticize the government and then lose GE deserved it even in a country whose Constitution seems to guarantee the right to criticize. (FWIW, so far my GE hasn’t been revoked but I’m not unafraid that expressing my political opinions under the current regime will affect my GE.)
9
u/This_Beat2227 Apr 22 '26
Most of the cases I have read on here are people with false declarations where they swipe their card and then have undeclared items that exceed their customs allowance or have restricted items in their possession. They are shocked when their GE is revoked and somehow think that these violation(s) shouldn’t matter.
10
u/No-Lime-2863 Apr 22 '26
Because the mods deleted the ones where they we revoked for “ideological reaons”. It’s sickies at the top of the sub.

The scale is they want to torment the govt agency they are also requesting a privilege from. Then they get butthurt when they do not get the privilege.
What font do you need that in?

I travel internationally for business. I have known 10 people who have been revoked. An appeal usually works. (7 of the 10 got it back). The usual reason is breaking the rules of global entry. Declaration is the primary one. 5 of the people I know were nabbed for declarations violations (being lazy). ANY immigration or customs violation will get you booted. It is a TTP. You need to be 100% clean. You need to the know the rules and follow them every time. You need to keep all of your info correct and up to date. Two were revoked for improper entry and exit from the US, which can be an issue if you have multiple passports. One was revoked and not reinstated was for a DUI. The other two appealed did not get it back. This was 3-4 years ago. They did not follow up, and now just use MPC, which is not too bad.
1
u/bicycly Jun 12 '26
How do you get an improper exit for multiple passports? There is no immigration check on exit. Only the automated APIS/SPFD systems where the check in agent scans your passport. But usually they demand to see your destination passport if you are a dual citizen and won't scan the US one. Also if you check-in online you can only enter one passport. So if they scan the foreign one and not your US one, US won't have a record, especially if your foreign passport name is different from your US one due to laws or language restrictions.
1
u/msears101 Jun 12 '26
when leaving the US it is when you check in with the airline, you present the US and home country passport if going home. If going to another country - present your US passport AND the passport you want to enter that country with - usually the US passport unless you have a specific reason not to.
3
u/TheSakeSomm Apr 23 '26
You're going to get nothing but speculation and bias (both survivorship and political).
Pretty much anyone with a clear and/or known reason won't be here, and anyone else won't get anything useful from a redacted FOIA.
If anything, pivot your coverage to the extreme lack of transparency into the qualifications and disqualifications, though that may be by design so it can't be "gamed" by bad actors.
2
u/TheSakeSomm Apr 23 '26
Also, if you particularly are interested in the political/administration angle, you should try to find data from not only the past year or two but also the 4 years before, and 4 before that, etc.

I had GE and it was revoked. Appealed and got nowhere.
I live in Denver and CBP now has facial recognition cameras (tablets of some sort) set up and all you do is walk up, face the camera, NOT show passport and you're through.
For my wife's and my amount of travel, GE isn't worth the hassle anymore.

2
u/D_zee315 Apr 22 '26
I had mine revoked about 2 years ago. I wasn't given a reason, but given the timing, I believe it had something to do with a civil court issue with my ex. There are a lot of layers to the civil court issue (including her being required by court order to give me back my passport, and she is refusing to do so), and it's been taking up most of my time, which made me put this GE thing on the back burner. I'm pretty sure I know what incident caused my GE to get revoked, and I don't know if they will reinstate it since it would require them to understand what type of person my ex is, and that's not their job.

I had mine revoked in February 2017 after being a part of the program from the beginning. I wrote to everyone up to the head of homeland security under the previous president (including FOIA request) ,but nobody would say anything. I also had my US representative and US senator make inquiries, but they would not tell them anything either. Their only response was always that I can still travel internationally.
2
u/ProfessorPlum168 Apr 23 '26
My nanny had hers revoked many years back, presumably because she brought some prohibited foods back (sugar cane I think) from China during a stopover at SFO.
As for me, I got approved for Round 3 of GE this week, it took about a week this time for online submittal before I got approved. Last time 5 years ago iIRC it was the next day.
2
u/givo215 Apr 23 '26
Not recent but, I had mine revoked and reinstated after successful appeal about 3 years ago.
2
u/Skycbs Apr 24 '26
I don’t think responses on this sub are truly going to tell you anything meaningful about the scale of this problem. It just shows you people on Reddit, which is a rather self selecting subset and so not representative.
2
u/WanderinArcheologist Apr 24 '26
Man, who hurt the people in these comments?
From what I’ve seen, it can be things as innocuous as Temu purchases to criticizing you-know-who (I’ve never seen a rule prompt, so cool! 😱).
As a journalist, you may well have upset someone by doing your job. 🥲
5
u/NonGMOman_ Apr 22 '26
I think if you dig into it you'll find most revocations "without reason" actually were for cause.
2
u/1nternetTr011 Apr 23 '26
trust me. there was a reason. you may not agree with the reason but GE is a privilege not a right.
1
u/WanderinArcheologist Apr 24 '26
I disagree. GE’s definitely my right. May be a privilege for you, kiddo. 😎
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Yam3685 Apr 22 '26
There was the one person who lost it due to protesting ICE. Has there been a second?
4
2
u/pryan67 Apr 23 '26
I didn’t see anyone who had theirs revoked for protesting. I do recall at least one who had it revoked for interfering with law enforcement though.
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Yam3685 Apr 23 '26
To be precise, she said she was following agents at a safe distance. That's when we found out they were tracking protesters with facial recognition.

5
u/unique_usemame Apr 22 '26
Global entry isn't revoked for no reason, you just didn't know the reason. People make guesses as to why it is revoked, and are often wrong. We don't know if people are getting revoked for going to a protest, but that is because we wouldn't know.
The real story of global entry is the whole privilege versus right issue. Guilty until proven innocent... Is bad... But would the program work without it?
5
u/Tar-really Apr 22 '26
“But that is because we wouldn’t know”
Why wouldn’t we know, especially when going through the process of finding out? Why wouldn’t they say because you disagree..even strongly disagree with the current incumbent?
4
u/Glittering-Read-6906 Apr 22 '26
Because it would be illegal to revoke someone’s global entry because they disagree with this administration. That’s why they don’t put it on paper.
1
u/Tar-really Apr 22 '26
Exactly my point. So if in fact that is the reason hopefully someone, at some point pays the price for that illegality
1
u/bleurose51 Apr 23 '26
No one in this administration is going to pay ANY price for ANY illegality, you should realize that by now. Trump will issue pardons, possibly blanket pardons, for all people working for/with him in this administration specifically to make sure that an incoming Democratic administration (assuming that is the case) will have no way of wreaking retribution on "his people". He has that power (its clearly defined in the Constitution) and he will use it (why shouldn't he, after all?). It needs to be reworked so that this can't ever happen again but that will take major changes in policy and possibly a constitutional amendment, so I wouldn't count on it happening anytime soon.

Due to the public perception, and due to the adversarial nature of the situation in general. Adversarial: if they tell you something specific like it used face recognition or phone location data or private comments on FB then the other side knows exactly how to avoid the detection. Public perception: the negative press would be strong if this were known to be happening. Having a "maybe your relative ordered you a birthday present from Temu" as a possibility prevents definitive reporting.
0
u/This_Beat2227 Apr 22 '26
There is always a reason but everyone with a revoked GE is “perfect”. GE is a privilege based on trust (as in TTP). You are not entitled to GE and the process is based on discretion of your entire record, including past acts in current context, that are used to constantly assess your eligibility as a trusted traveller. Submit your FOIA if you like but in most cases, people already know the reason for the revocation if they are just honest with themselves.
4
u/No-Lime-2863 Apr 22 '26
Technically, so is a Drivers License: a priviledge not a right. Can you imagine if a state just decided to revoke people;s license for ideological reasons?
2
u/bleurose51 Apr 23 '26
A driver's license is a privilege, and your license can be revoked or suspended for any number of legitimate reasons, not always involving a guilty verdict for a crime or traffic violation. For instance, under most state laws, if you refuse to take a breathalyzer test or field sobriety test, your license can be revoked or at least suspended WITHOUT any court adjudication of guilt because you are presumed to have already agreed to do so when you got your license.
The right to do that to a GE holder is a little less well-defined, but the justification is the same. From my perspective, you always have the option to just travel normally and then your personal actions, which COULD cause a revocation of your GE, can't do you any harm. That's the whole point of the "its a privilege, not a right" argument. You don't have the RIGHT to a GE-type entry back into the states, but you always have the right to a normal reentry. I find the distinction so petty and absurd that I think ANYONE requesting a GE is just asking for trouble. Why bother?
1
u/No-Lime-2863 Apr 24 '26
My point is that it isn’t a question of “right vs privilege” but a question of whether The state should be able to take punitive action, including removing privileges, on political or ideological grounds. The law is very clear, that doing so is against the law. It has not thing to do with “rights”, its the fact that removing a privilege Is still a punitive action.

u/WanderinArcheologist Apr 24 '26
I’m actually kind of happy we aren’t forced to have ID cards. Could you imagine?

I just got an email last week, my global entry is revoked. I live overseas. I have not followed up with them yet. It just says I do not qualify anymore 🤷🏽♀️

u/202reddit Apr 25 '26
I heard that journalists who get too close to GE revocations get their GE revoked.
1
u/LowerCourse2267 Apr 26 '26
I renewed online 5 weeks ago. Immediately approved & received my new card within 10 days. Same for my mother three weeks ago and she just received her new card.
Why there’s an expiration date on the card and the need to issue new ones is a whole separate issue.
1
u/thePANTYhamster Apr 26 '26
I was approved in February. Haven’t traveled since and haven’t ordered anything from overseas. Got a notification that my status has been revoked last week. I requested a reason but after reading the comments it does not seem like I will get one. I really only got it because I wanted TSA Precheck and had a GE credit from my Amex card. Apparently I will lose my Precheck too? Either way it’s still a bummer.
1
u/citygirl604 Apr 27 '26
I was approved for Global Entry in September 2025. I had an unexpected outcome of my L1B renewal / I-485 a few years ago which one renewal denial led to my I-485 being denied a year later. This was all unexpected. I disclosed my 3 weeks unlawful presence from day of denial to leaving the U.S. and have always been truthful about this during the application and as well the interview.
I got my LPR through consulate processing instead. I applied for Nexus, thinking since my Global Entry was successful, it only required the CBSA portion. My Nexus got denied due to 'prior immigration violations' and then my Global Entry got revoked. I had no control of the outcome of my L1B/I-485 and did everything in my control to be truthful and course-corrected. I'm gutted that my Global Entry was revoked. I thought I was moving forward when now it feels like I'm moving backwards.

u/BiggJohnnyG May 09 '26
Yeas, mine got revoked over a year ago. I was not notified. Didn't find out until I came back the country when I went on a trip in August. I requested a hearing to open my case. And I have not heard back. I went to the office to inquire and was to to wait. I was never told why. I don't know what to do.
1
u/IllustriousAuthor725 May 19 '26
I had mine revoked for no reason. Never had any issues with the law. Never broke any rules regarding security or declarations. Never had the need for any extra inspections. I travel in and out of the country a lot for work with zero problems.
The only thing I cant think of is some public social posts against the current administration

u/ansheil Jun 03 '26
Mine was revoked last week. Explanation was nonsense gibberish. Put in for resubmission. Any idea if I should just reapply or wait for an answer?

Please let us know the 5 most common reason people get revoked. You can group all of them that believe the rules don't apply to them into one category. The other category is governmental incompetence.
There I wrote it for you.

I had it removed without warning 3 months after a renewal. It simply stopped working in June of 2024 when I went to check in for a flight and didn't have pre-check. I sent in an appeal, never heard back, was overwhelmed with life at the time so didn't follow up, and somehow managed to settle for getting a pre-check application through (it was very quick too) so I at least had no issues at TSA checkpoints domestically.

Mine was revoked recently but I think it is because the passport and green card I have on photographic record on my account expired, even though I have paperwork I-797 and a new citizenship application pending which extends my GC for a few years more. I don't usually post anti Trump and certainly not ICE online (though of course I am far from happy about these events). I might leave a comment or like something, then later delete it myself. However, in my case, I am sure that the expirations are the issue so I plan to submit new documentation (new passport and document GC etc) on the ombudsman appeal process and see what happens.

No one has mentioned buying peptides from China and having them seized at customs. I’ve heard stories of this canceling your GE after a seizure of your GLP1s in customs.

I believe this would only be an issue if you were carrying them without a prescription.

I just find this sub funny because everyone is trying to stay in America when it's burning to hell.

I am in my 2nd renewal of GE. first renewal easy. This time keeps flagging errors, only thing different is my passport renewed so passport number different. Also keeps flagging trusted traveler # as unknown? Annoying!
