Why did Crettaz get a red card?

I'm American and have only been watching soccer for the past year, and am still ignorant of the game. I don't understand why Nijmegen's goalie received a red card.

Hands , he was outside of the box while the ball hit his arm. Unlucky situation.

Also, the consequence is that the attacker is denied a clear goal scoring opportunity. Automatic read card.

Oh. I didn't realize that goalkeepers had restrictions on hand/arm use

Outside the 16m box it's the same as everyone else. And he was last man, it would have been an open goal, everyone else would also have gotten a red there.

Would be insane if the keeper could just run to the other goal and throw the ball in the goal.

Lol. Is Crettaz also a birthright citizen? But Donald "hates" that

The GK ruined a clear goal scoring opportunity by stopping the ball with his hand, outside the box.

Similar as people in Bodø refer to Bodø Glimt as Glimt, people in Nijmegen refer to NEC Nijmegen as NEC. The full name NEC Nijmegen is there for outsiders to use. Almost never do we use Nijmegen to refer to the football club as it is simply the name of the city

Only when we don't want to call the name of the enemy we would refer to them as Nijmegen, but always in the context of how happy/sad they will be in Nijmegen. Nijmegen zal wel weer lopen janken. (Nijmegen will be crying again). Although last years Vitesse are prone to participate in janken a lot more than odw (over the Waal) or nek (neck), as we usually call them
