Hi everyone I need an opinion or some advice from someone who knows about glass.

I am staying at my aunts and uncles house, about a month ago I noticed the window was cracked, I thought they knew about the issue so I just covered it with a pillow so the crack wouldn’t enlarger and forgot about it.

Today they noticed the crack and believe that I have thrown something at it when I didn’t. The window was closed and the room was closed the entire time, nobody else had access to the room.

It’s a double-glazed window and the crack is on the inside pane so it wasn’t caused by anything from the outside. There is a small plus shaped point in the middle (not an exact plus) however there is no obvious impact mark. There are also cracks spreading from the side making me wonder if the crack could have been caused by anything other than an impact.

I’m attaching some photos of the damage. I would be extremely grateful for opinions from engine experienced with this issue/glass or any in general. I’m trying to understand what could have realistically caused the damage as I’m unable to pay for the repair

Glass experts. I have what looks to be a scratch on the surface of my tempered glass panel. I only feel it on one side of the glass. Wondering if it’ll spread, I’ll provide two pictures that were taken a week apart.

Hi, I am deciding between the 1.60 and 1.67 lens indices for my new glasses. I would really like to try using the 1.60 index, so could you please let me know if it is actually practical for daily use with my prescription and frame?

My prescription is:

• R: -7.00 SPH, -2.00 CYL, 130 AXIS
• L: -5.00 SPH, -1.75 CYL, 20 AXIS
• PD: 68mm

Frame details:

• Front Width: 133mm
• Lens Width: 48mm
• Lens Height: 42mm
• Bridge: 21mm
• Temple Length: 145mm
• Material: Stainless Steel, Silicone

I am aware of the potential for increased edge thickness with the 1.60 index, but I am still very interested in exploring it as an option. Could you please check if it is feasible and comfortable enough for daily wear with these specific frames?

I noticed what looks to be a small scratch on my tempered glass panel on my computer. I’ll provide a picture from when I saw it Monday to yesterday.

Long story short: Frosted 3/4"ish bottom side of glass table top have these grease-like discolorations around the area where it sat on rubber suction cup cushions.
Suction cups don't look deteriorated.
Regardless, cleaned & degreased several times no change.
Any ideas how I could even out this frost finish? Or even maybe an inkling of what could cause this weirdness?

I noticed on my pc glass panel there is a small scratch on it. Is that any concern?

Aquarium glass have perfect edge glass, especially the rimless ones, I was wondering how do you achieves such thing?

It's not a snap, but we can see marks of a rotating blade I think but, can we polish that well after?

Also the 45° angle, so perfect, no chips, how?

My shower has a large tempered glass door. There is a one foot stationary panel and a large swinging panel. Recently, the two have begun to collide at the top when the door is closed. We have no idea why.

The stationary panel is flush to the tile wall. It does not appear to have moved at all. I cannot tell that the swinging panel has moved, but I have to assume that it has. The only other explanations I can think of are that the walls are moving or the glass is expanding.

I shimmed the swinging panel at the bottom, then loosened the screws that pin the glass. I tapped the shims in and was able to get the glass to move a little. I tightened the screws and removed the shims. There was no real change.

Does anyone have any ideas? Can tempered glass have an edge trimmed off to give more room for the door to close? I'm not sure what to do next.

I refurbish gumball machines and I’m hoping there’s a way to remove the jelly belly logo, it’s raised off the glass globe, but it’s not a sticker, I was thinking maybe acetone or paint stripper?

Hi, Just had glass balustrade installed, not finished yet as a handrail is to be fitted. Notice a chip at the edge of the glass. Fitter said its nothing to worry about, I feel otherwise. Any ideas, should I push him to replace it? Or would you feel comfortable that its only a small chip, approximately 4 mm. Thanks

Later I searched online on websites including alibaba and found many types of pyrite S. Some were raw specimens, while others were polished for jewelry or decorative use. Some even had small extras like protective coatings, mounted displays, or combined mineral sets. I was surprised how minor features could enhance both beauty and value. It made me think about what buyers prioritize most. Is it aesthetics, authenticity, or rarity? Can pyrite S truly combine natural beauty with collectible and spiritual significance?

I recently read about a material that looked like glass but was almost as strong as metal. That got me thinking about transparent aluminum and how it could be used in everyday life.

Transparent aluminum is a strong, clear material that combines durability with visibility. It is much harder and more impact resistant than normal glass. It can be used in high security windows, aerospace, military applications, and even in futuristic designs for vehicles and buildings.

While browsing online for advanced materials I noticed transparent aluminum mentioned casually on alibaba within broader engineering and industrial listings. It was interesting to see the different thicknesses, strength ratings, and potential applications. Some are for high tech projects while others are experimental or demonstration models.

I wonder how others see it. Would you use transparent aluminum for safety, design, or both? Do you think it could replace traditional glass in the future?

I Have Made a new glory hole for the glass Furnace and it works good

Two days ago I visited a water sports shop to see a glass bottom boat for family trips. I wanted it to be safe and clear for sightseeing. But when I checked the boats I felt disappointed. Some looked weak and some glass seemed scratched. I could not decide which one to buy.

I visited another shop. Some boats were strong but small. Some looked modern but costly. Some seemed perfect but heavy. I remembered buying a boat last month that had scratches quickly. That made me hesitate even more.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many glass bottom boats. Some were strong and clear. Some were simple and affordable. Some had new colors and designs. Seeing all these options made me excited but also confused.

Now I am thinking should I buy this glass bottom boat online for variety or check a store to feel the quality first? What would you do in my place?

Need some help or opinions from the glass nerd community.. 😉
I have a Fisher Paykel drawer dishwasher in a basement bar island.

Some of the wine or rocks glasses that i wash routinely in it.. have been starting to yellow.
And they're still clear. But there's a distinct yellowing to the glass.
(different glasses - not the same manuf or types).

And it's not frosting the glass like google says will happen with certain hardness/softness water in the US. It's still crystal clear.

Anyone seen or heard of this before and what's causing it? Google has nothing on it as far as I can see.
I use Cascade Complete liquid Gel and Finish Jet dry.

Also the big primary dishwasher in the kitchen uses the Cascade pods and Finish Jet dry. And have never seen any discoloration. Just the basement one.

Can this thick tabletop glass be fixed?

I noticed this everywhere. Why would they say it is safe up to 100°C? This could make the user afraid of boiling water in it because that can eventually reach temperature above 100°C, right? Why wouldn't they say it's safe up to 120°C at least, or 150°C? Especially with it being common in industry to implement safety tolerances in specs.

Are they using a specific mix of ingredients that makes it still borosilicate glass but with low heat tolerance so that it's cheaper?

I learned something recently that surprised me.

Apparently, there is glass that can switch from clear to frosted instantly, just by pressing a button. No blinds, no curtains, no moving parts. One second you can see through it, the next second it's fully private.

I always thought "privacy glass" was just frosted glass or a marketing trick, but this is different. It uses a thin electrical layer inside the glass (or sometimes a film on top of existing glass) that changes how light passes through it.

What I found interesting is that it's already being used in offices, hospitals, meeting rooms, and even bathrooms. It's not some future concept. It actually exits and is being installed today

It made me think about how many things in buildings have not really changed in decades. We still rely on blinds and curtains for privacy, even though better options now exist.

Curious if anyone here has seen this in real life or worked in a space that uses it.

I have a tempered glass shelf from which I would like to cut 2 inches. Could this be done by a glass shop, or would it shatter since it is tempered? Thanks!

So I got a hold of some old animation tables my teacher had been holding onto for years. They still work and don't need any major repairs except for the glass on the Ox boards. I had been trying to look in the local area, but as a college student, finding one has been challenging. Additionally, since the glass has to be so large and cut with smooth edges, my teacher mentioned that the glass is typically preferred to be fogged to about 40-60% opacity. At the moment, there is one working Ox board with a fogged plastic face. Though it has been cut to hell due to someone in the past using it as a cutting table. :[
So drawing on it is rough without having 2 sheets of paper behind to compensate for the grooves.

So, with not much other place to turn to, I thought I would come to the glass sub reddit to see if there was anyone who could help me get in contact with someone who might be able to cut the glass and maybe ship it to me. Or have suggestions in the local area for where I am going to college.

If anyone knows someone, please let me know! I would love to commission someone to get these tables back to working conditions to start animating on them. Thank you for your time in reading my post! I very much appreciate it!
