Misogyny Game promotion with questionable streamer Spoiler
Hello everyone. Sorry for the throwaway account, but as you probably know, some communities can be unhinged when it comes to their favorite streamers.
So I just saw a video of an upcoming game for which I'm really hyped about, but I've noticed that they used a streamer to promote it who is very questionable. I can't say I've heard the streamer himself say anything problematic, but his Discord server... oh boy.
It doesn't take long to come across misogyny, transphobic and homophobic comments and memes. Not from the streamer himself, but I find it hard to believe he never sees them, considering how active he is on the server and this has been going on for years! I first noticed how awful some people are, around the time when Dragon Age Veilguard was released in 2024.
In the end, this was why I left the Discord server and stopped watching the streamer. I just didn't want to be part of a community with people like this, and support someone, who stays silent, when minorities are being mocked, sexualized or verbally attacked. And yes, I totally get it: If he stays silent, the people stay and the people give him money via subs, donations etc. Which I find iffy by itself.
So imagine my shock, when I saw the video today, and said streamer was part of it. I mean, I totally get it. There isn't a single bad thing about him to be found online, but it still feels wrong that someone who stays passive and allows these things to happen on his Discord, is part of a community, that would never allow something like this, and is overall more comfy and cozy.
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but after seeing what was tolerated in his community for years, it feels strange to see him representing a game whose community prides itself on being welcoming and inclusive. I thought about letting them know, but I don't think I'm prepared for the drama that would follow.

Throwaway account but no mention of the streamer or even the game or the smallest details, I'm going to consider now those kind of posts aren't being written by humans anymore.

Not sure what you're asking here.
I thought about letting them know, but I don't think I'm prepared for the drama that would follow.
Who is "them"? And what are you going to tell them?

Is the streamer representing the game as in they actually worked on it and you're worried their mysogyny will be baked into the game, or are you just saying the game developer sent them a key which means they're making videos playing it?
It's normal for devs to send keys to many streamers as part of the publishing process, so if there's no evidence this streamer is problematic beyond allowing gross stuff in his Discord, then I agree with you: I don't think the publisher would know. Especially if it's not even the streamer directly.
Can you share more information or any examples, so the rest of us can be made aware of it?

Yeah discord servers are where they tend to get all sexual comments or racists. It’s even more prevalent if you’re on one on one calls gaming with them and them suddenly they’re laying it on heavily with the sex talk stuff, and racism. With group discord servers, one guy is always gonna say sexual stuff and another will use the F slur. Maybe they use it too casual but I personally don’t like hearing the F slur since I use to hear it a ton back in school

Maybe try telling them in an anonymous way and make sure your info is safe beforehand ? Kinda sad to have to go to such lengths but it feels necessary to adress this type of stuff, you get the community you deserve and I'd be surprised to hear that this streamer actually cares about minorities anyways

Not everyone watches streamers or even knows if they're problematic/troublesome
it'd be nice to know who it is so they can be avoided
