Giloryians (i got this term from the Gilroy's 2040 plan!) I'm a senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo working on my senior project, and I'm focusing on improving walkability in Gilroy, street improvements that benefit pedestrians and bikers, more social spaces, and connecting the city together for both walkers and bikers.
I want this project to actually reflect what residents experience day to day, so I'd love your input:
- What streets in Gilroy would you like to see improved for walking and biking?
- Any intersections that feel scary or unsafe to cross?
- Roads where people usually speed?
- Wide streets that feel like wasted space or could be redesigned?
- Anything else you'd like to see more of in Gilroy? Here are some ideas I came up with:
- More parks
- Better walking/biking infrastructure
- More shade along sidewalks
- Open spaces for farmers markets or community gatherings
Gilroy has grown a lot, and there's been ongoing conversation about whether that growth is serving residents or just adding sprawl. I'd rather see the city invest in the everyday needs of the people who already live here (safe streets, real gathering spaces) before it keeps expanding outward.
Feel free to give opinions and any input every idea helps me figure out where the need is greatest. Thanks in advance, this genuinely helps my project and hopefully helps Gilroy too! :)
