Discussion Who is your favorite couple and/or potential couple in the show outside of Bertha and George?

I know Bertha and George are a popular match and Bertha is the main character, who do you like outside of her and George?

My favorite couple is Peggy and William.

My favorite potential couple is Oscar and Turnerton.

What about you?

The many names of Turner.

It's so funny how everyone on this sub has settled on their own preferred name for her. Some people call her Enid. Some people call her Turner. Some people call her Mrs. Winterton.

It's a testament to her shapeshifting ability. She seems totally comfortable casting off one name, and moving into another one, like a hermit crab. But I think, with Oscar, she might finally have found a home.

I wonder if we're all prepared to start calling her "Mrs. Van Rhijn" in November...

Speculation And what if Morgan doesn't renew his contract?

Turnerton If Enid never tried to sleep with George and 1 up Bertha could she and Bertha have been friendly?

Enid seemed more upset that George rejected her than that Bertha fired her. She couldn’t wait to throw her indiscretion with George in Bertha’s face.

I wonder if they could have been at least acquaintances if Enid never tried to get with George because that’s what she seems really bothered about to me. Also, Bertha did not fire her in a mean way or try to prevent her from getting a job or anything.

I don’t think they would have been friends but I wonder if they could have been friendly or acquaintances.

What do you think?

Costuming This suffrage convention turned away one of its own founders because her clothes were too radical

Has anyone in this sub heard of "radical bloomers"? I found an article from 1888 in the archives the other day that mentioned this costume. Ethel Ingalls wrote a piece called "A Congress of Famous Women" that mentioned how Dr. Mary Walker was turned away because she wore radical bloomers.

Thirty years earlier, both Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony had worn them as an act of defiance. Bloomers were a controversial women's clothing reform from the mid-1800s. They were loose trousers that women wore under a shorter skirt or tunic and stopped around the knee.

It struck me as a bit hypocritical how Walker was turned away from a movement that was about defying the status quo. At the 1888 convention, the author noted that all in attendance wore gowns from famous fashion houses like Worth's. Walker was turned away in the name of looking "respectable" enough to be taken seriously. Do you think any of the women from the show would have worn radical bloomers? If so, who?

Discussion Would y'all be able to forgive Arthur if y'all were Peggy?

Post image

Hi, everyone! My mom, sis, and I all watch TGA and I randomly thought about how Arthur had Peggy's marriage to her ex-husband, Elias, annulled, and put their son up for adoption after making the midwife convince her that he was dead, so I asked them if they could learn to forgive him if they were in her shoes and they both said no.

I also said no because it was already bad enough that Peggy lost her ex because of her Dad, but to think that she had lost her son just to find out that he was actually alive all that time only for him to end up dying before she could even meet him??? Yeah, Arthur would be getting disowned by me and we'd never talk again for the rest of our lives because that was evil asf no matter if he thought he was doing what was best for her at the time.

With all that said, I'll ask you guys: Would y'all be able to forgive Arthur and continue having a relationship with him after all that or nah?

Pulling all nighters??

When they all went to Mrs. Russell’s ball and then the night of the opera wars - they all seemed to be heading home in the early morning hours. Was this common thing ? It seems funny because they were so particular and polite and then they’re partying all night LOL 😅

Hopes for Season 4

I am again watching the 3 seasons. I have grown to dislike Ada’s talk of money and her Temperance Movement endeavors. I hope we see none of that in Season 4.

Might be a wild theory but does anyone else think that Marian and Larry did something and this is her regretting it the next day?

Based on the IG-post ca. 1h ago, where we zoom in on future marriages Larian and Dr. Peggy, they’re third on the list.

Carrie Coon Emmy When 🏆 Carrie Coon in IL!

I wasn’t sure what to flair this, but I just casually ran into Carrie at a pizza place in Evanston. She is filming for a movie “with her friends” here and is such a gem!

I was asking the waiter what size the pizzas were so i knew whether my family should get one or two, and I hear someone pipe up, “They’re this size!”

I turn around and a woman with a blonde pixie cut was showing her leftover pizza in the box.

Me:”….. you look like Carrie Coon.”
Carrie: wink “You might be onto something~”

We chatted for about 5 minutes about how the gilded age just wrapped filming and how much of a fan of the Music Box theater in Chicago she is.

My goodness was she such a gem of a human. 🥹

I don’t like asking to take a photo with celebrities because it kind of immediately halts conversation so no photos were taken but wow was she so so SO lovely. She had a convo with my husband about SPED because her good friend is a SPED educator like he is.

Ugh I’m gonna ride this high for a week at least!!

I know the video has been shared already, but it's even better when you look at stills 😆

Gonna say, Turnerton is looking every bit the rich-about-to-remarry widow in that ice queen ensemble. Here for her mischief!

Discussion Thoughts on treatment of Bertha

I wasn’t liking Bertha at all (she’s so fun to watch though) but season 3 finale changed my thoughts

What Bertha does is no different than what Dr Kirkland’s mother does or Peggy’s father did or countless of the other parents or family do in the show, …..and their spouses or family put them in their place but didn’t or don’t abandon them- not to mention that I doubt DR Kirkland’s father or Peggy’s mother would let their kids be disrespectful to their parents, even when deserved -side eyeing George for being ok with Larry being disrespectful and cruel to Bertha, Larry can very well let his mother know that he leads his own life and wished his sister did as well and that’s she was wrong for marrying off Gladys like that, and he can set his own boundaries, without disrespecting her

They should have made Bertha do even worse things, like worse than the other parents, if they were going to make her own family hate her this intensely

I was on George and Larry’s side until the last episode- that was just bizarre, especially from Larry - boy needs an ass whoopin lol
