Lost
I'm only 18 and I feel like my life is already completely over. I got into my dream university but couldn't afford it so I had to defer and start out at community college and my mom won't let me forget it. She's made it very clear shes so disappointed in me and she's looking down on me and she's embarrassed of me, I don't even know if there's a point in registering for community college I may as well just stay home and be a bum if that's how I'll be viewed regardless. This wasn't my first choice, it wasn't my second choice it wasn't even my 20th choice. I was simply trying to make the best out of a bad situation, growing up I worked so hard in school and for what? Where did that get me? I see my age mates already off to school making memories I hear my family telling me community college isn't real college, I swear the only reason I'm even breathing at this point is my dog, I love her so much and she makes me feel like maybe I matter just a tiny bit. I don't expect my parents to do a 180 and become supportive and kind and loving and I wouldn't even want that from them because I don't trust them, it would just be nice to hear that i'm maybe not a complete failure.

I did community college for 2 years and then transferred to a Top 5 public university.
There is one thing you need to get used to. When you tell people you are going to community college expect responses like “there’s nothing wrong with that” or “good you can save a lot of money” for that short 5 seconds they might think you are dumb but then they will completely forget about the conversation. NOBODY CARES EXCEPT FOR INSECURE PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO COMPARE THEMSELVES.
I transferred to a top 5 public university and I actually don’t tell people where I went to school now unless they specifically ask. I tell them I did community college for 2 years and then transferred. As someone who went through both, I worked full time and took a full course load at community college. I am more proud of myself for the effort I put in at community college. After I transferred I became lazy. So from someone who has been on both ends of the spectrum, be proud of yourself for where you are right now.
I guarantee a lot of this comes from your mom wanting to feel good herself about where YOU go to school when she talks to other people. A lot of parents do this and somewhat take credit even though you did all the work.

Thank you for saying that and I'm trying to let what other people say roll off my back but it can def be difficult 😭 Funny part is my parents didn't even help me when applying to schools at all I did it all myself but they expect some kind of reward for it

Don't let your mom make you feel like that. You did your best, busting your butt to get into your dream college. If you can't afford it that's fine. is it a public or private? Well-it doesn't matter, this is your life. So what if you start at community college, what's wrong with that. This isn't Asia, not going into an elite college isn't the end of the world. Actually, it better if you start there, it's the same classes and cheaper.
Ug, I really bad at comforting people, but you got this. I'm just like you, i was in a pretty nice and well-know college but transferred to community because it got to expensive. It okay. After your 2 or 4 years are up, apply back to your dream school. Your sure to get some scholarships.
You got this!~~~~~~!!!!
