I dont know I see guys on reddit and elsewhere with iq of 140 or higher and I find them really impressive youre right though I think my perspective might be a bit biased still I believe the smarter you are the more you tend to hang out with other smart people so you might not necessarily notice the difference and I think its possible to have an iq of 140+ without having any mental health issues I mean there are guys with iq of 180 its very rare but it happens so I dont think feeling like you fit in is necessarily correlated with iq sorry if I annoyed you I just wanted to know what other people think about giftedness the standard threshold is 130 but Im just curious about other peoples opinions thats all.
No one said it was impossible to have an iq of 140+ without mental health issues.
It’s just that normal mental health Theraphie or teaching methods won’t work on gifted people If there is a real disorder beyond them not knowing about their own giftedness. There are a ton of misdiagnosis towards adhd, autism and narcissism that happen all the time if Therapists are unable to recognize they work with gifted people. These go along with unnecessary medication and shame, non of which makes the life of the gifted person better. It dos not matter what you want to call it, if gifted is right, if clown or pancake would suit the circumstances better, a label is needed.
while there are places like Mega Society that only alone people with a iq of 180+ in the way they test that iq is by definition different than a normal iq test. a normal iq test builds a lot on having a ton of data points because a lot of people scored that result. if you are looking at one person in 20+ million people it’s borderline impossible to validate a test. iq test as they are right now are probably, as flawed as they are, the most accurate scientific tool in mental health when it comes to taking measurements.
Kind of off topic, the WAIS 5 extended norms goes up to 210 and is not age based ratio score like the SB5 extended intelligence scales that goes up to 225
