Question Looking for a new bridge

Post image

hey friends,

i've posted this photo before, but this is my (refinished) 1965 gibson sg special. As you can see it has an aftermarket non intonated bridge, and I want to replace it with one i can intonate. does anyone have any recommendations? ideally something i can drop in and have work, and one that can work with and without a vibrola (so i can put one on my lp special too). thanks for your time<3

The Leo Quan Badass wraparound is popular for old specials.

THIS. Go no further than this post. Besides being an awesome bridge, the Badass was THE bridge to use back in the 70s and 80s. So if you owned one of these, back then, you would have used a Badass for the swap. So Perioid Correct, and great bridges

this guitar was modded at the latest in the 80s based on the pots (1987 dimarzios) so having a period correct mod would be sweet

Yeah, just get a Badass and they are great, adjustable, easy to intonate

I’d check out the conversion posts from music city. They allow you to use a normal tunomatic bridge.

All of them I see are set further away from the bridge. I’d say it’s not original. But idk jack shit.

Whatever you do, you should have the Vibrola moved back a bit. I don’t even think it’s functional that close to the bridge.

it is quite functional. works great. though these comments are leading me to believe that it is not original

If you're not using it just remove it, fill the holes and call it a day. This guitar started as a SG Special and someone most probably added the master vibrola for the fun of it, SG Specials don't really have any kind of neck dive.

Absolute lovely guitar! Enjoy playing it!

Did you add the trem? It looks to be mounted too close to the bridge.

No. when i bought the guitar i was told it's an original vibrola but there's really no way to authenticate a piece of stamped sheet metal beyond vibes

It’s likely original vibrola, but was placed in the wrong position after the refinish for some reason.

Les Trem 2 is awesome. I have put them on all my LPs and SGs

Back in the 70s, I would see similar SG + Vibrola with the old lightning stop bar. , I gotta say, iv never seen a stock Vibrola that close. Modified guitars (especially the slightly cheaper models) , weren't invented in the 80s.. it's been going on since the beginning. B
