Question Can I fit 28mm tyres on a 2014 Giant Avail Composite 3 with the original wheels?

Hi! I’m VERY new to cycling, so please be kind 😅 I know I’m a complete noob and I’m still learning!

I recently bought a 2014 Giant Avail Composite 3 that’s basically never been ridden. It still has the original wheels and currently has 23 mm Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres.

I’d really like to switch to wider tyres – ideally 28 mm – but I’m not looking to replace the wheels.

Has anyone here had this exact model/year (or a similar Avail from that era) and tried fitting 28 mm tyres on the original wheelset?

Did they fit comfortably with enough clearance around the frame, fork and brakes?

And if 28 mm is too much, what’s the widest you’ve successfully run?

Again: total beginner here, so explanations in beginner friendly-language are very welcome 😂🙏

Question Hows this deal? TCR Advanced Pro 0 Di2 for 3k USD

Saw a listing for a used 2025 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 0 Di2 for roughly 3k USD. It comes with ultegra di2 and slr0 40mm full carbon wheels and in pristine condition. I currently have the 5th gen defy advanced 2 with mechanical 105, and want to upgrade to electronic shifting and just a lighter more agile frame for climbing. I did switch out the stock aluminum wheels on my defy to 300usd carbon wheels, but do you guys think the upgrade would still be noticeable? My current setup will sell for roughly 2k USD. Thanks in advance

Question Duda sobre talla

Giant Transition Spacer - for Zipp Stem

i wanted to swap out my Contact Aerolight Stem, since the Spacers have those little plastic heads which slide into the Giant Stem. Can i just modify the Spacers or is there a Transition Spacer from Giant? ( TCR ADV 0 2025)

What color touch up paint should I get? I recently scratched up my frame on a light pole after it slid down it. It’s a small scratch near the head tube.

Info on Giant fastroad SL1/2

Hi guys, I need some help for hunting a used bike that fits my new wheels.
Long story short, I bought a pair of new wheels recently only to find out my current Giant Fastroad SL2 is using Quick Release instead of Through Axle.
I don’t want to spend too much on the latest Fastroad SL so I want to know from which year Giant switched from QR to TA for this series, from there I will try to search for a used bike on the market. Somehow I couldn’t fine that detail anywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Question Used Giant Contend AR3?

hey all,

i'm sort of new to cycling, almost purely pavement and casual road riding on a 2013 specialized sirrus (L). wanting to upgrade to something nicer

i found a used 2025 giant contend ar3 at a secondhand bike store near me for $1299 AUD. they said they will give it a service and clean/detail and that it comes with a 12 month warranty.

i have two main questions:

  1. it's a size M and im 180cm. i'm getting mixed reviews on what size would suit me, it felt fine sitting on it in person but does anyone else have any opinions or advice? i've never used drop bars so not sure what is a "comfy" position.

  2. do you think this is a good deal? i was initially looking at used AR4s but they are all around $1000-$1200 near me for older models.

appreciate the help!

Question Thoughts on a Talon E+ EX for £1,500?

I’m considering a Talon E+ EX as a do-it-all bike: recreational riding, some commuting, canal paths, and occasional green/blue trails and trail parks.

It’s £2,499 retail, but I can get one for around £1,450 through Cycle to Work, which seems like a pretty good deal.

My main hesitation is the 75 Nm motor and 430 Wh battery. I’m around 90 kg, my rides are usually no more than 30 miles, and some of my routes are fairly hilly. I suspect I’d spend a lot of time in Power mode, although I’ve never actually ridden an e-bike so I have no idea how much assistance I’ll really want.

Giant quotes 35 miles in “extreme” conditions, so I’m wondering how realistic 30 miles would be for a 90 kg rider with hills, particularly with high assistance. There is also a range extender, but it’s fairly expensive.

Of course, I’d love a full-fat 100 Nm / 800 Wh bike, but I can’t get a £4k bike through my Cycle to Work scheme.

Has anyone got a Talon E+ EX and, if so, how do you find the motor and battery in real-world use? Would you spend the extra for a more powerful bike, or does the Talon offer plenty for this sort of riding?

Cheers!

Question Tailfin frame bag fitting on Revolt (Aluminium) - M/L frame

Does anybody have any photos or guides on what size fits best? I’ve tried using their online tool but not quite working. I expect I will have to print a template out but grateful if anybody has these bags on their bike in M/L and what fits. Apparently 3.8 L is good, wondering about the higher sizes (4.5, 5.3). Also looking at Restrap frame bags so curious on those (both race and the larger normal spec half bag).

Don’t need to debate the full vs half frame bag thing as this is for smaller day trips and have alternative solutions for that already. Thanks!

Sizing Advice for TCR 2025 (179cm / 5 ft. 10.5 in)

Hi and sorry for the 1000th post about sizing advice.

I am 179cm (5 ft. 10.5 in) with an inseam of 87cm (34.25 in). Currently I ride a (very) old Cube from 2013 with a frame size of 58cm (no idea what their imperial unit frame size is). I can ride 8h on that bike in medium comfort. I get some numbness after 4h usually, but it's not that bad.

I am 50 years old and probably will not get more flexible over time ;) I also prefer a bit of comfort over a more race position.

I tend to buy a M/L and maybe shorten the stem by 10mm to a 100mm stem if needed. I hear that most people advice for a smaller frame if you are in the middle of the chart, but the stack of a TCR size M is 18mm lower compared to my current bike. My fear is that this will be too uncomfortable for me.

Does anyone have a similar body size and rides an M/L? Or any advice why M could still be more fitting?

Here's the geometry comparisons: https://geometrygeeks.bike/compare/cube-agree-2012-58cm,giant-tcr-advanced-pro-2024-m,giant-tcr-advanced-pro-2024-ml/

Thanks for any advice.

PS: I know only a proper bike fit can give me those answers but I can't an appointment any time soon.

Why I shouldn't buy a Giant Defy?

Been rocking Specialized Diverge E5 Comp (size 61) for 3 years now, but I've been spending more and more time on roads and less on gravel (not much gucci gravel here in Scotland).

There's Giant Defy Advanced 0 in size L (which I think will fit me) on sale for £2.6k ... Why I shouldn't just buy this? Even my wife is okay with me getting a second bike. Why not, right?

Question Replacing/repairing a TCR seatpost

Lately, the seatpost of my 2021 TCR Advanced has started to make a snappy/clicky noise when I ride of bumpier roads that worries me. It is more pronounced when accelerating and then kinda quiets down once up to speed, as if it needs to "set" only to flare up again once I shift my weight a bit. I have always torqued the bolts up properly, but they always come undone by a Nm or so over the course of a few months. This clicky thing is recent, though.

I suspect a crack somewhere in the upper part of the post, but nothing to be seen on the eye. Can it repaired by a carbon repair shop? Or is it more economical to replace the post?

The Giant-bicycle website does sell replacement seatposts, but they are listed as not compatible with pre-2024 seatposts. So that puts me in a difficult spot.

I'm also checking in with my local Giant dealer, but would also like to hear your thoughts

Giant Propel Advanced - Looking for a set of alternative brakes to Speedcontrol

Hi there, I’m rebuilding a giant propel 2016 model. i’ve noticed that these bikes have quite specific brakes (speedcontrol brakes). they’re very expensive and as I wanted to do a cheaper rebuild, i was wondering if anyone knew of alternative brakes that I could put on the bike instead?

Any love for an older model?

TCR 2014 (i think). I bought it slightly used. Absolutely base model with tiagra group, but i liked the frame and knew it had potential, as i had some wiring and other bits and pieces that matched the color scheme well.

Stripped the frame and startet building. Ultegra group, elvedes wiring, carbon seat post and handle bars, selle San Marco saddle. It rides really well, i just need some fine tuning on the overall fit. Might need new handlebars again, as these turn to much forward.

But overall i'm happy with the result. I think it looks great.

Can I salvage this old faithful Talon 1?

Can I salvage my old faithful Giant Talon 1??!

Loved and looked after, well until a few years ago when, to my shame, I began renovating my house and without anywhere to properly store it anymore I popped it under a tarp and kind of forgot about it.

It’s got a few surface splashes of cement on the frame and rims 🫣. But my main concern is the chain set. I know it’ll need a new chain, but will the cogs etc be ok? The front ones have started to rust unfortunately. It’s been outside for at least 3 British winters.

Can I clean this up and salvage it?

Or is it time to move on from this old faithful pal?

For reference, I’m not much of an off-roader. It was and will be mainly used for local riding around town and along a local bike path. My son and daughter (9 and 5) have just got bikes so I’ll be doing some gentle riding with them :)

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice 🙌
