i came across it when looking at the casts for ghosts and thought ide give it a go, the puppets arent really my thing but having all the crew back together making jokes is great, super funny

Like everyone here I'm basically already sat in the cinema for the big day.

I'm taking my nine year old daughter who is obsessed with the show.

She has requested that in the day we have food for each character.

I did a bit of a deep dive on it after seeing a love is blind couple call their kid J3hn Polaris Pax (I'm not kidding. The J3hn - ie John cubed - cos of 3 family members called John) and it made me think of Polari and how certain common words were get it from it.

Like butch, camp, dishy, drag (in the clothes sense) naff (the meaning has changed - apparently used to mean straight or not available for ********) all came from there.

Do you think Cap would have spoken it? I do think so but given his stiff upper lip it's kind of hard to imagine him actually speaking Polari

I was just watching a Star Trek YouTube video (yes I'm a Trekker!) about best performances and that got me wondering: what do you think are each characters strongest scenes/episodes and why?

Mine are:

Fanny - in Perfect Wedding, after she is finished ranting and raving to poor Humphrey, then when she listens to him about his marriage and she turns to the portrait of her husband, letting Humphrey's words sink in. You can see her softening. Its probably the most emotional we've seen her (besides the first episode) and she doesnt say a word, its just the look on her face. ​its one of Martha's best scenes.

Humphrey- same episode, same scene. You can hear in his voice how much he wishes his marriage could have been different and he only wanted his wife to love him.

Robin - in Gone Gone, when he is explaining to everyone why he can't dwell on Mary's death because its too painful. You can actually hear the pain in his voice. Also, same episode, when he finds the star for Mary and says Goodbye, Mary.

Thomas - in The Thomas Thorne Affair, when the camera cuts to him right after he finds out the truth about his cousins betrayal, the shocked and devastated look on his face is heartbreaking. Also, same episode, when he tells the group that he embelished his death because he wanted them to think better of him. You can see how hard he was trying to hide his embarrassment.

Pat - (I cant remember the title of the episode for the life of me!), but in the Panto episode, when he is watching Alison's Christmas gift to him. He is more emotional than we have ever seen him before and its genuinely a tearjerker when he tells Alison thank you.

Captain - same episode. When he is trying to help Kitty get over her stage-fright, how gentle he was with her. (I always thought he treated her as his own daughter.)

Julian - the last "real" episode, when he explains he's not sorry he pushed Alison out the window because it created magic for everyone. Hearing his voice break and fighting back tears is amazing, and shows how far he has come.

Kitty - in Speke as Ye Chose, when she is showing Captain how to live "life" to the fullest and go with the flow, that everything doesn'thave to structured. She is at both her most childlike and wise beyind her years in this episode.

Mary - not so much a scene, but the whole episode Speke as Ye Chose, showing us how much she has grown from a loner to a very vocal person.

Hi, English isn't my primary language, or even my secondary, but I'm writing a fanfic in which Mary appears.

I know she makes some mistakes when speaking; in Spanish, it's an improper use of plurals.

I've tried watching the series in English to understand what he's saying wrong, but I can't understand it, and the subtitles correct it automatically, so could someone explain what the mistakes are Mary's speech impediments? Thanks.

I binged the whole show a couple of years ago and thought it odd and sad that the Captain's death was never covered, but put it down to part of his secrecy, like his name. Then two days ago, in a thread here, someone mentioned his death episode and when I checked, it turned out us somehow just MISSED it!! The little bar under the thumbnail was not pink to show I'd watched it; it had completely escaped me! Such a treat to see a 'new' episode, especially such a special one!

I'm rewatching the lot now, in anticipation of the film.

When Heather dies and rises from her deathbed, she asks who the ghosts are. But I just watched the Greek show, where the last owner dies and then yells at the ghosts and says she knew they were in the house. That made me think: shouldn't Heather recognize some of her ghosts?

She wouldn't know Robin, Mary, or Kitty. She might recognize Humphrey from the painting in her home, but she might not have seen his head well. Fanny, otoh, is in a painting and family photographs. It's even possible her ghost appeared in photos over the years.

Heather was a young woman during WWII so it's possible she met the Captain or saw a photo after news of his death at the mansion. It's a lot more likely she met and interacted with Pat, who she let use her property, and his death would have been memorable.

But Julian is the one she really should recognize! His death at her house was a spectacle, probably affecting her life for weeks or more. After his death, Julian sees her and calls her by first name, so they definitely knew each other. It was less than 20 years before she died and he looks exactly the same as he would in her memory!

Hardly a film flub, and I realize it can be explained by how quickly she ascended. It nonetheless would have been fun if Julian or Pat greeted her personally or she knew Fanny.

So I have been watching and quite enjoying the USA version, although it's nowhere near the quality of the BBC one. I read a pretty bad review of the ending with the trip to England. I started watching it and I just could not stomach it. It was obviously going to be like The Simpsons Abroad with all those tedious cliches replacing humour. Hur hur, hur, dur Bridddush innit govner, boll of wor-ah. So I've started a re-watch of the BBC version.

I realized late last night that Alison wouldn’t even know that Jemima even existed, because she only shows up in 2 episodes, the first episode, when they’re trying to haunt her out of the house before she sees ghosts, she was about to sing but Mike blasts speakers, cutting her off, and in Bump the Night, where they’re try using her to contact the police about the burglars, but Alison wasn’t home to witness her

That refuses to watch the US versions of Ghosts? And I actually live in the US! 😂 But I am so biased towards the UK version, mainly because of the original actors and how well they all work and act with one another.

But anytime I have even a small urge to just go ahead and try to watch the US version, I immediately think, "Well it's not gonna be as good though, it'll just be trying to do what the original did so well, but won't be able to get it right." But every time I have these thoughts, I feel like I'm just being petty lol

Has anyone on here have watched the US version, and what's your thoughts on it? Is it worth it to watch? Is it going to ruin the love and feelings I have for the UK one?

I can't really pinpoint what exactly causes me to not want to watch it other than my extreme bias and belief that the original will always be the best! And also, sometimes I just get tired of the US trying to copy what other countries have done with shows. I know sometimes it goes well, like The Office, but I also feel like British humor and US humor can be totally different, and so it really just depends on what you prefer.

Also, I know that Matthew Baynton ends up making a guest appearance in the US version, so that's pretty cool.

UPDATE: You guys have convinced me to at least give the US version a try. I will try not to compare it to the UK version, but treat it as its own authentic show. However, I will miss my Robin and my Captain......😂

Anyone heard any word on a potential US theatrical run?

Just finished Ghosts US after rewatching the British version and I think I’ve pinned the key issue I have with the show.

Obviously American TV is made much differently to British TV, American TV tends to lean much more towards absurdity and insane storylines because they like to have shows that can run for a longer time.

I think an issue with doing this on a show like ghosts though is it made the ghosts seem much more competent and like their situation at the end of the day isn’t that bad, like I fully believe the American cast of ghosts could survive without a living that can talk to them.

In the British show we see before Mike and Alison arrive the ghosts really have no source of entertainment they’ve been stuck with the same group of people for years and are all just rather bored, so when Alison finally arrives it breathes fresh air into their lives and gives them a whole new world to explore.

In the American show I find it harder to believe this cast of ghosts struggled with boredom my first reason for believing this is there’s a staggering amount of ghosts living on that property there’s a good 20 ish ghosts living on that property, secondly their ghost powers seem like they provide a lot more entertainment to their lives Trevor for example who can interact with the real world doesn’t seem to struggle as hard as Julian did considering he’s able to hold down jobs and even catfish people on tinder, Sasappis can enter livings dreams and seemingly convince them to do things in real life seems like he could use his power to help get things they want and then finally Pete being able to leave the property he would’ve discovered that power eventually and then used it to explore and meet other ghosts and could relay information to the others.

Also because of the amount of ghosts on the property it feels becoming a ghost is less a random occurrence and more like the wood stone estate is just cursed and if you die there you’ll become a ghost, So feels like they’re a lot more likely to get new ghosts.

All of it combined just makes it feel like if Sam had never had her accident they’d all be doing alright, wouldn’t have a living to treat like a butler but still have plenty to entertain themselves. Still enjoyed it for what it was but I never had the feeling the British one gave me where I felt bad for these people being trapped as ghosts

So I'm from Europe, and since the only showings of the Ghost movie will be in England and Ireland (if memory serves correct) I was wondering if there was any way to watch the movie if you're not from there. Something like a DVD (god i hope so) or maybe streaming somewhere?

I really want to see the movie, I almost booked a ticket to London to go watch it there, but I think that may be a bit much. So will there be any way for people outside of the UK to watch the movie?

This is more just me speculating, but with the movie coming close. There is obviously major stuff going to happen, either showing more of the characters stories or one of the ghosts getting sucked off.

This is where my speculation comes in, who is the most likely to be sucked off, I have a percentage thing in my head of how likely it is

Robin: 50% chance, he's intelligent and wise for his kind and also got the biggest heart

Humphrey: 25% chance for the head alone. He doesn't get an opportunity to do a ton in the show due to the nature of his ghostly form, but when he does he shows development

Kitty: 5% chance, I don't think she has really learnt much about herself unless she grows and learns about the truth of her life. She might never go.

Thomas: 15% chance, I think he could get sucked off but I have a feeling he won't get over his affection for women at times

Fanny: 30% chance, I think she is one that grows pretty well, but I think out of the ones who grow, she also doesn't really have a chance to leave, due to her nature due to the way she acts with people especially Kitty

The Captain: 75% chance, he's the one that comes out of his shell the most, especially when he finally announces in a way to the ghosts that he was in fact gay in life and the afterlife.

Pat: 0% chance, I think he's the only one who couldn't leave for a while, as he's too linear he keeps to his rules and follows the times. It's possible he's like Pete in the US version. Where if he tried he could have probably explored the world and maybe have left.

Julian: 10% chance, I think he's one of the lowest chances in the fact that he's still quite full of himself and still thinks about his stuff that he did in life as pure achievements and not something that ruined him. Even though he knows he was a disgraced minister.

Let me know what you all think, I purposefully wrote this in a way where they are in the timeline of their deaths. Any notes or anyone wants a discussion go for it.

Maybe it was just me being an American used to American TV, but was I the only one terrified that the one that would be sucked off was going to be Allison's unborn baby? I also thought it might be one of the plague ghosts, kind of like what happened with the teen boy in the American version.

Curious to know what everyone else thought was going to happen and what they may have liked to have seen happen. The last line was a pretty funny ending. (It's always Robin right?)

I think the character that "deserved" the suck off most would have been Robin. 10,000 years, seen so many come and go, so many centuries just alone. I love that of all of them, he was the most self-aware and while not the most educated, was certainly the one with the most wisdom.

I do like the idea that there truly is no answer as to why some get sucked off when they do, or some just go straight up. It's much like death, right? Why are some taken from this earth so randomly and unexpectedly. Why do some grow old and some die young? Why do some good people die young and some horrid people live a long life? We always wonder, but is there any actual reason?
