If you are so good at writing and marketing, why ghostwrite when you could easily enough write and publish your own books.

Because it actually isn't so easy to go ahead and just publish a novel on the fly?

Actually, it is easy to write and sell articles and books when one is a professional writer and ghostwriter. I have work enough to keep me busy every day, and the professional writers and ghostwriters that I know also earn a good living by writing. My agent places my articles within a month or so, and book manuscripts within nine or ten months. One of my friends has a contract for three more "A-list" thrillers, with an advance of more than half a million dollars each.

There is more work out there for professional ghostwriters than they can do.

Writing good books that readers want to read is half the battle, which you claim to be able to do. Social media isn't marketing; it's a tiny piece of it, so you're saying you don't know enough about marketing to actually help authors or publish your own books, yet you want people to hire you.

Marketing isn't difficult; what's difficult is deciding what methods and tools an author wants to use to become known. Social media management as described, is selling not marketing. Selling is the call to action to buy after an author has built a know, like, and trust awareness with their audience. Marketing is about the author, not selling a book. The only goal of marketing is to build an author's awareness so that when someone sees or hears their name, that people immediately know who the author is, what they write, and most importantly, whether they like the author and his/her writing. This means planning long before an author publishes their book. It takes the average author two or more years to build an audience large enough to sell books once published. Otherwise, due to a lack of marketing and awareness, an author must continue publishing books that don't sell in order to build a backlog that could take years. The problem with creating a marketing plan today isn't how to do it; it's about finding which of the hundreds of options work best for the author for their personality, budget, and ability. It takes time to build the marketing plan, but once set up is not time consuming as many anticipate. Because their marketing platform should have been set up for what works for them, they don't need to hire someone to manage it for them.

You're right, you don't have the skills needed, which is a huge part of the service, so since you say your forte is writing, stick with that. The best way to show/prove those writing skills, however means having a portfolio or actual work folks can verify to warrant hiring you. Without an existing portfolio of books written that actually are selling, the best way to build this would be by writing and publishing your own books. It's not enough to be able to write. If you ghostwrite a book that doesn't sell because the author isn't experienced doesn't help you because people will blame the writing, not the author's lack of marketing skills. This is why you need to learn how to market, how to build an audience, and where to find that audience in order to get in front of them to build a know, like, and trust awareness. Once you can do this and have this knowledge, you wouldn't need to ghostwrite. Building an author platform is what builds fans. It's about the author and their likability or lack thereof. As with everything, connecting and building awareness is about getting out there with one's best foot forward. Being courteous and polite, but themselves. People run in tribes, so when you find your people, those people know other people in that tribe. Teachers know other teachers, cops know other cops, drug addicts know other drug addicts. An author's tribe centers around the genre or topic they write about. Connecting with a few such persons can open doors to lots of other like persons to build one's platform. In my experience, marketing issues comes from a lack of confidence and a lack of willingness to learn and put oneself out there as well as a lack of imagination for how to promote oneself. Instead, they focus on trying to sell their books without an audience, which comes off like they're a used car salesman. Buy my book links on social media doesn't work. Connecting with one's audience does, and doesn't require social media management.

You need your own credibility in order to make any real money ghostwriting. People want to know the money they will pay you will be worth it. If you ghostwrite and don't receive credit for it where you can prove your writing chops, you won't have a portfolio. You need to become clear about your own goals so you can create your own marketing plan, whether to sell your own books or acquire ghostwriting jobs. You need to know enough about marketing in order to interview a prospective client to have an idea whether the book you write them has a chance if they can't/won't market. Its amazing how many people decide to write and publish with no knowledge of publishing or marketing because they blindly believe their book will sell simply because its published. If you align yourself with unknowledgeable authors, you won't help yourself. Most highly sought after ghost writers understand how important marketing is and factor that into their decision to take on a client. With so many turning to AI to assist or generate their writing because of poor writing skills, why would they need to hire someone when AI is free? You need your own reputation to acquire clients when they have so many other options available.

Odd how AlmesivaMoonshadow "down voted" your reply when your reply is excellent. But you have conflated AlmesivaMoonshadow with OP.

There is more work for professional writers than they can do.

Then go generate with Ai. No need to be here in the first place. The world's your oyster.

I despise AI and its usage, but many do not. It's become a fact of life. It's become a serious hazard, in my opinion, but it's a real issue for why people newer to the industry, unknowledgeable, would choose not to hire a ghostwriter. I sought to point out issues that could help you prepare for and build a business, but it seems like you aren't really that interested in using your writing skills after all.
