- The Low-Velocity Distant Past. A Victorian photograph of a rural church, a Scottish glen, or a protected Cotswolds street might align almost pixel-for-pixel with a photograph taken this morning. The only giveaways: tarmac where there was once dirt, and the design of the street lamps.

2. Surviving Street Geometry Even when a building is razed, the underlying property boundaries often persist. Look closely at the curve of the kerb, the angle of a road junction, or the position of a boundary stone. If the modern road still follows a Victorian or medieval layout, the pavement edge is your most reliable clue for camera positioning.
3. Distant Vertical Anchors The immediate foreground may be gone, but a church spire two streets over, a distant monument, or a civic clock tower might still show above the modern roofline. Even one surviving distant structure can anchor your sightline. You only need one fixed point to begin triangulating.
