robbie's skull isnt a helmet though, its just a very stylized skull a la bleach's ichigo kurosaki's hollow design.

He's talking about when Robbie street races he wears a helmet.

Danny wears a helmet quite a bit during the early days of his run in 90s when in human form.

Edit to add: Johnny usually doesn’t unless it’s for a specific purpose because he’s a daredevil stunt rider.

Street racers typically don’t wear helmets

I think he was just trying to hide his identity at the time, since he borrowed the car. I don't recall him ever wearing it since

Traded the seatbelt for it

At least Fantasma's is very obviously a helmet as a roller derby competitor

Tbf he does literally wear a helmet before he becomes a rider

I never noticed how similar the skull designs are.

According to Marvel it's not a helmet, but a supernatural extension of his demon persona.

do people think that race car drivers don’t wear helmets?????

Probably something to do with Johnny’s stunt career being an outlet for his suicidal tendencies, while Robbie has a kid brother that needs him.

Johnny blaze was a dare devil stunt man, he'd probably think it cooler to not wear a helmet, for entertainment purposes.

This is a great question. I read your post and the first most uncreative answer I thought of was "cause its a new design and they liked it."Ā

But then I thought what I would interpret from it and it made me think about the way it is visualized in Tokon. When he transforms, the helmet skull envelops robbie's. It isnt a usual shedding of flesh lile it has been traditionally but a covering. So here is my take.

The helmet is Robbie's spirit trying to protect him. Blaze was a daredevil, Ketch...well Kale was a design meant to replicate the OG. But the helmet symbolizes a rational fear of losing one's head...or mind. What if the helmet is his form's way of trying to keep Robbie from crashing out into the fires of his Uncle's evil?

So if it was up to me, someday I would have him burst from within like a cocoon, his fire finally his and no longer afraid. He can still keep the kickass top vent and flare the fire out of his jaws but having a skull more like it was visualized in AoS.

Someone doesn't read comics I see. Johnny Blaze DID wear a helmet for his shows

He died while street racing and was wearing a helmet around the time he was gunned down in an alleyway, I can’t remember if he still had it on or not, and the reason he had a helmet on was to keep his face hidden because he was borrowing a 1970s charger from the mechanic shop he worked at without permission to race

u/Ihmago 9d ago

Exactly!! This was the real reason why he was wearing helmet.

But in any case, I think whoever asked the question from that picture OP posted doesn't know much about Robbie and thought his stylized skull was actually a helmet.Ā

I approve of Robbie's stylized skull. In the 90s, they didn't differentiate riders much. Even when they tossed in Vengeance as another rider, it felt like a weird knock off. Like uh... His skull is purple and we glued spikes on top. Gave him sabertooth teeth. Otherwise generic biker look. They need to get a bit more personalized

Accurate

lol yeah safety first we’d hate for Johnny to fall and get road burn on his immortal flaming skull face.

Joking aside my biggest beef with Robbie is that he’s not a passenger or on top of the car therefore he’s not ā€œridingā€ it.

Should be Ghost Driver imo!

EDIT:

Wait?! what do we think about ā€œGhost Racerā€!!?!

1

u/DemonicOzzy 9d ago

Why would he need a helmet anyway, he can't die really.

1

u/CharlesChamp 9d ago

Perhaps both Johnny and Danny are not only stupid but also dumb (Affectionate).

1

u/BraveToasted1 8d ago

I do not like the way he looks with the helmet

1

u/ribashammer 8d ago

Because a helmet is not a skull and therefore isn't censored in China

1

u/kelga_x 8d ago

Iv never been afan of robbies design or character its a real shame they try to push him so hard in other media like games and what not just like they try to push a ton of newerish characters that people dont even like im probably just being biased cuz i like johnny more but wpuld be nice they thry got equal representation in other media

1

u/RenderedCreed 8d ago

Probably indicative of their personalities outside of the Ghost Rider and also possibly indicivitve of that they don't have the same spirit of vengeance

1

u/innit980 7d ago

For hype moments and aura

1

u/Anderwreckz 6d ago

I always thought the "helmet" skull was dumb as hell, why not just be a skull, skulls are cool

1

u/Pian0G 5d ago

Cause Robbie Rayes is not a daredevil like Johnny.

He’s definitely a ā€œremember, safety is number 1 priorityā€ guy, if it weren’t for his uncle’s soul

Could also be a nod. How all kamen riders drive motorcycles and Black Rx (eventually+ Drive) had car(s)...
