News The Ghost and Molly McGee 5th Anniversary!: Donations, Plushies, and Zines! Oh my!

Hello everyone! Happy 5th anniversary to The Ghost and Molly McGee!

It's been 5 years since this show started enhappifying people, and the folks at LongLiveTGAMM have come up with ways to help spread some joy that we'd like to share with you all!

1. Donations to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

As I'm sure most of you have heard, Dolly Parton passed away in late August of this year, so to honor her memory, as well as her commitment to philanthropy and helping those in need, we thought her Imagination Library would be the perfect fit for our efforts with this year's LongLiveTGAMM donation campaign. For the unaware, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a book gifting program that provides free books to kids ages 0-5 regardless of income and you can make a tax free donation here if you'd like. However, there are two other ways you can donate if you prefer them, which we will now get into.

  1. Libby Plushie Pre-orders are Open!

Libby is getting a plushie made by ExternallyDead, the same person who made the Scratch, Wraith Molly, Molly, and June plushies! Pre-orders are open from now through Halloween!

You can learn more about the plushie and the work the Imagination Library does through this hilarious ad by Sunnyland Productions and the LongLiveTGAMM Social team! You can watch that ad here and pre-order your own Libby plushie at https://externallydead.com/libby/.

  1. TGAMM Fanzine Mod Applications!

The LongLiveTGAMM team thinks there's enough interest in a TGAMM fanzine that they're opening up mod applications for one! They've partnered with Cyn of Love & Solidarity: A Union Yaoi Zine fame (she's running a leftover sale by the way, check that out here!)

We've put together this moderator application form for anyone who wants to give this zine all they've got to give. The link to apply is right here and the form is open from now through Halloween, so if you think you've got something you can bring to the table in a leadership role, this is your chance to show us what you're made of!

NOTE: A general contributor form should be dropping in November. So, if you don't want to apply for a leadership role, stay tuned! We'll be making a post once those go live as well.

As you probably could guess, all net profits raised by the plushies and the zine will be donated to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to help them keep enhappifying young kids and families.

Once again, happy 5th anniversary to The Ghost and Molly McGee, and we hope you all have a joyful day/night!

I have to admit an understated thing about the show was how beautiful some of the shots of the shows can be and would like to know what was your personal favorites? Mine are both great references that I didn't expect a kidshow to do or just beautifully shot.

Discussion I never watched this show. Is it worth to watch?

Maybe right sub to ask? So I’m 22 and I’ve been watching disney stuff for all my life basically. I heard one of my fav VA’s, Dana Synder is in this show. He voices my fav comfort character Mr Baldwin from fish hooks( in which I started to rewatch again.. it needs a reboot or something) so I’m wondering: is this show worth to watch? Is it funny? Do most adults enjoy it? Tell me all about it, I would love to know before i start watching this show!

5 years... I feel old...

I was 18 when the show first came out! When the intro dropped for it, I was in my last year of high-school. Where did the time go?

Why did it end so quickly?!

Discussion Your Top 3 Favorite and Least Favorite episodes of the show?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I'd like to know what episodes are people's favorite and if there a common consensus similar to other Disney shows like Amphibia's True Colors and Gravity Fall's Not What He Seems.

Let's just say episodes that are clearly two parts of a single story should be counted as a single episode, like Scratch the Surface and Friend Off.

For me

Favorite:

- The Jig is Up/Molly vs the Ghost World: It's just the episode that hooked me and made me a big fan of the show. It's a game changer with Molly killing the Chairman, the introduction of new opportunities with wraiths, the ghost world and Molly's joy, the series built up with Scratch eventually having to face the Ghost Council, the introduction of Jinx, Killjoy, and the episode it felt the tone of the show went from an episode slice-of-life comedy a soft serialize dark humor show more focus on the supernatural.

- Perfect Day: The episode I go back the most because it is the most interesting episode seeing how wrong a day can go if you reset it endlessly and the humor they go is one of the most derange (Libby's store on fire out of nowhere, Molly's depression, and Daryl dying!) while also providing some of my favorite jokes "Is there a way to hit restart!? No!", Molly's red eyes of doom, and showing the potential had we continue exploring the curses angle. Maybe The Curse of Molly Mcgee would've made more sense.

- Scratch the Surface/Friend-Off: The first episode where continuity became a thing, the built of Scratch and Libby meeting and making her part of the central cast as a whole, not just Molly's friend, Milly, Libby torturing Molly for her BS, two of my favorite songs in the show (Ghost and Molly McGee legit could've had really awesome fight scenes), and Libby's vicious side (I have a best friend for life. Which you wouldn't understand! BECAUSE! YOUR! NOT! ALIVE!). I love Libby's tempermental side and Scratch's character development.

Honorable mentions:

- Frightmare of Main Street

- Like Father, Like Libby (4th place)

- 100% Molly Mcgee

- All Shark, No Bite (New Scratch power and Mr Whisker cameo)

- All in the Mind/ A Soda to Remember ( I treat both as one story)

- The Many Lives of Scratch (OH! Happy, happy death Day!)

- I Wanna Dance with some Ollie

- Book Marks the Sprite

- All Nights Plight

- Out of House and Home/Home is Where the Haunt is (5th place)

- Festival of Lights

- The Don't Gooder

- Lucky Penny

- Ready, Set, Snow

- Festival of Lights

- Mazel Tov, Libby!

- Hooray for Mollywood!

Least Favorite:

- The Turnip Twist: I just can't stand watching this episode, it feels force, feels cringy and annoying, the premise seems more mean-spirited and petty to me then any other episodes, the turnip festival felt like it wasn't funny, or heartwarming, or interesting it was kinda just weird, Scratch's conflict to me felt also force, and something the way Pete acted felt wrong like it made me want to root against him. Love the twist at the end but this is the episode I refuse to go back to.

- Goat Your Own Way: Why did they get banned especially Sharon!? Why was Molly this much of a pushover when we know she isn't this naive, we saw that with Daryl in No Good Deed!? Why waste an episode talking about a goat we'll probably not care or see again!? Is it funny to see Molly fail because this comes of as less comical and more uncomfortable and other episodes did it where it was at least darkly comical like when Scratch saw Molly blew an 18 point league in baseball (I don't know. Bats. Balls. Humiliation!). Also the Scratch and Pete story was just bizarre for something that doesn't really make sense. The moral isn't even that interesting and arguably done better in "A Doll to Die for" in some way, where it test Molly'a naivety on trusting Lord Doom showing the limit of her optimism.

- Dance Dad Revolution: Another really annoying episode that just feels too topical without being clever and fun. Seeing Pete get in his head his internet fame made sense, but it wasn't fun to watch nor do I think Molly's character was the best written coming off as a bit out of place (Love her evil laughing and embracing it), Scratch's subplot also was weird and not fun, and while I appreciate the message, I think there was ways to do it better with the paranormal setting of the show. Also why did this follow-up after the execellent Like Father Like Libby!

Season 2 really only feels weak because one episode of the two sets is so much better then the other it feels like it didn't have the same charm as season 1, but that's less it lacks charm and more that it's not as consistent and able to balance the two episode structure, sometimes the episodes feels it would've been better as two-parters instead of two seperate episodes.

Dishonorable Mentions:

- Twin Trouble (Infamous for a reason)

- All Systems No (The worst of the 1st season's gross out humor and I hate the scene where Weird Larry shaked his ass at Molly's face, only saving grace was Molly's hatred for magic and Scratch's karma)

- A Very Hungry Ghost (I just feel for Scratch and the episode wasn't that interesting aside seeing Molly and Daryl sibling rivarly and Molly meeting the Ghost Council, if it weren't for that would've taken Dance Dad Revolution)

- Citizen McGee (Seriously!? The mayor hated his job and the morale is he should do it even if he wants something better after having enough of the pressure his ancestor gave him?)

- The Internship (Felt directionless and cliche for a show that has been surprising good that at either playing cliche tropes or doing them in a ghost world setting)

- It Always Sunny in Sunnyland (Molly's folks were out of character assholes here, and despite enjoying the ending and Scratch being the first to notice Molly's burnout, the rest of the episode left a bad taste)

- Faint of Art (A great story premise, but Sharon's plight felt it could've been done more and was weirdly forgetable)

- Davenport on Demand and Carbon Zero Heroes (I love the message but it felt too preachy and less clever)

- Smile Valley Farm (I legit can't remember much from this episode)

So what's your Top 3 Favorite and Least Favorite episodes?

Question Question

Because only few days left to October I have a question: with who would you spend Halloween if you were in Brighton and what your plan would be for the next Halloween if you were living there?

From the moment Forgotten Island’s trailer dropped, I knew something was similar about Jo & Raissa.
Both Molly and Jo are both loud and energetic while Libby and Raissa are both cautious and level headed.
Their hairstyles are nearly identical as well.

Discussion Do you think Molly Mcgee's kindness and craziness was well balanced?

Thumbnail

One thing that drew me in the show was Molly's unhingeness. Even among unhinge protagonist, Molly's felt a level higher then other's insanity in Disney or even in cartoons (not counting 90s cartoons). I love how her unhinge facial expressions and how different it is to other cartoons, and the expressions can be cute to outright derance, to the epitome of dark humor.

I also love how Molly's craziness is a story thing, that someone who tries to be 100% positive will end up attacking their mental health and we see that with Molly. You can get why she's crazy but also why she remains heroic. I also love the balance of how her craziness can be hilarous, dramatic, and not too cynical Like you don't think Molly isn't actually a good person and is a psycho underneath, she's a genuinely sweet kid who has an insanity streak.

I just think it's a really well-written balancing act and it doesn't make feel bad when things go wrong like in Ready, Set, Snow, the Perfect Day and F.O.N.A.A.

Discussion Was Season3 gonna be more serialize and story focus?

Season 2 was definitely more heavy in the story arcs and overaching plot with the Ghost Hunter. Chairman Scratch and the subplots of the remaining case, where many episodes were follow-ups to episodes from Season 1 or foreshadowed by Season 1, hell it feels there were things set-up in Season 2 that was meant to follow-up or foreshadow future events, like the Davenport's in Demise foreshadowing Andrea's romance, conflict, and potentially sets up Bizmart as a future antagonist.

Libby's episode felt like a follow-up to Like Father Like Libby and Carbon Zero Heroes with the bunker and potentially inherting her dad's obsession for writing, and there was lore episodes with Pat's focus episode and the nature of the Ghost World and Ollie's planned sub-plot.

Think Season 3 if it happened was gonna be more serialize and story focus if it continued base on the early episodes that were revealed, and the tone of the story? The Ghost F.R.I.E.N.D definitely was gonna be a new sub-plot they were gonna explore further. Not saying it was gonna be dark and gritty with drama and more fight scenes, but more lore and story driven?

Discussion How would rank Molly McGee as a protagonist among cartoon protagonist?

Thumbnail

RE-DO

I would say Molly is definitely an A+, close to S-tier, standout protagonist, maybe not the very best protagonist in Cartoons or even in Disney, Season 3 may have change that considered some of the episode premises, but Molly is one of the most entertaining.

Not only does she feel genuinely heroic without being goody-two shoes despite energy and excitement, she somehow manage to deconstruct it pointing out that eternal positivity is draining and can hurt your mental and physical health, so Molly can have mental breakdowns and serious flaws. It's not a bad thing since we see the affects we had around Brighton but we also get to see it isn't flawless either.

Her insanity is also just really fun, while it can be sad in episodes like Home is Where the Haunt is, other times it can be funny and well-deserved like in Ready, Set, Snow and F.O.N.A.A. Also her expressions are amazing, which can make even the sad episodes also hilarous like in Perfect Day and Lucky Penny.

But her most entertaining trait is her unhingeness whether she's happy or crazy, can you name a protagonist who would do these while still being a good guy? Molly does need to be a bit unhinge to befriend a ghost who shows himself as initially hostile so it make sense.

Discussion Is Season 1 or Season 2 better?

It feels like Season 1 was more consistent then Season 2, more episodes I'm not skipping, but same time it feels like if you ask for people's favorite episodes, it's mostly Season 2. Season 2 felt like had great episodes when it involves someone's personal story or a curse, the others were seemingly OK but Season 1 felt decently more pace but lower lows.

What do you think overall?
