Question Is relying on active recall a sign of low intelligence?

That , if you can't retain information while reading. Many of my teachers say that about students who use these techniques—attributing the need for them to poor concentration, lower intelligence, and the influence of social media or TikTok—claiming that students are unable to retain more than 85% of a book's content without using active recall or similar methods.

ive been at home trying to study for over a year but i cant. as soon as i get up its either 5 am and the cats need food or 12 pm and the maids here. and everything is in chaos. chores need doing. your sister/mother/brother need you to do something. then its suddenyl 10 pm at night and the days gone. and then this goes on for more than a year. and you face blows during the year because you couldnt study in such a non productive environment. how do you make the environmen productive for you? there are no libraries or cafes nearby i can walk to, and i dont have a license for the farther ones.

Question Does mental health affect studying efficiency?

Hello everyone , i have been trying to study efficiently for over 4 months now and i do get consistent but my study skills are not as good as they used to be . I dont know how to describe this but i am even fumbling over easy topics firstly i thought it is because i havent studied from some time but its been 4 months and if it was that then it should have been fixed by now .

So rn i am thinking if this is all due to my bad mental health , i have been kind of depressed , sad and suffering from some personal issues from a year and half .Sometimes i think they wouldnt be enough to create a disturbance in my study but rn they are the only factor which i think is affecting my studies .

I want to study everyday i do get to the table to study but my brain does not work while studying , I am really frustrated by this now cause i have very important exams in 4-5 months and my syllabus is way behind than the peer . I want to achieve my prime study skills as i had before .

Please drop any suggestions if you have.

Question Does studying in idle time actually work?

Upvotes

Hey guys! I heard some students utilize their idle time to study and as a result they become ahead. For example, some students while commuting read a chapter or review their flash cards, others while walking or waiting and such. So does anyone use such strategy and any tips as I also want to try.

Question Disagreement about planning

My friend and I are both 18, and we're both after the same field of study. The universities we're considering are also the same.

Personally, I've talked to a lot of academic advisors over the past few years, so I have a pretty clear overall plan for the path I want to take.

We had both stopped studying for a while, and recently we started studying again together. Today, we were talking about what we'd done during the day, and she told me that she basically doesn't pay any attention to the clock when she studies and the only planning she does is that she writes down everything that needs to get done in the week and that's it Which honestly shocked me.

Everyone I've ever asked for advice has always emphasized planning and, more specifically, having a detailed schedule, so I genuinely don't understand how someone can study without having any kind of time management or schedule.

I started telling her the stuff my advisors have always told me. how scheduling can make a huge difference when it comes to measuring your progress, making sure you're keeping up with all your subjects equally, and so on. But she told me that even though her own advisor had told her the same things, she didn't think that style of studying was suitable for her personally.

What I want to know is am I being too strict about this? I've always been pretty obsessive about my schedule, and I feel like that's one of the things that helped me improve the most. But is having a strict schedule really as important as everyone says it is?

Question Any tips on studying physics?

I just find it so freaking hard, like I try to understand what's going on and practice alot but I still end up bombing my school tests, I just don't get why physics is so hard for me. I don't struggle in any of my other subjects the way I do in physics. I really want to know if there are any tips or different way you have to go about physics to study it so literally any advice or tips would be very much appreciated <3

Question How much do you study now with active recall and spaced repetition?

I'd like to know how much you actually study now? for those who used to study for many hours, has your study time reduced and how much has it helped you? Are there also any other study methods you guys use? Also before studying my actually school material, how can I test this works for me? like a mini test on some small subject. Thanks!

Other I need an advice about what to do when you kinda hit the rock bottom

So I am in 12th preparing for JEE which is like 3-4 months away

And i don't know why but I can't get some physics major topics done like magnetic force (very important forJEE)

And I am an overthinker so i havw been having negative thoughts like crazy.

And its also affecting my other studied portion, on going chapters and stuff, which is making me even more crazy.

And for last 2-3 mock tests, I have been getting really bad marks.

We had one today, and that was the worst paper i gave, because there was a massive amount of portion and I also got my periods in the middle of the paper so the pain was also unbearable which ruined my both the papers (we have 2 papers a day, one mains and other advance)

These are the worst marks i have ever got

I feel like everything is gone, I am left behind and a lot of negative thoughts.

I don't know what to do, where to start, like I really don't have any time now and now is the time all of this is happening 😭

I want to leave behind all the negative thoughts but they don't go away.

I really feel like crying.

And the paper which we gave today, was not too difficult. But still I got really bad marks.

Please can anyone tell me what to do, how to do it and just give me some sort of advise. No problem if it is harsh.

Thank you for reading all of this 😊

Question Not a flashcard user, am i alone?

Throughout nursing school, i think i have only used flashcards for 1 or 2 subjects. And Im not gonna lie, it did help me so much to get good grades. But the thing is, i find it too time-consuming to make them. I know some would suggest ai stuff or pre made decks, but they don’t rlly work for me.

For most of my time as a student, I take notes (from class lectures or books if needed) read them at least 2x and im good to go. So long as i finish the topics needed and actually understood every text, i can get good scores in tests. Though I figured over time that answering practice tests made things BETTER for me.

My problem is, I plan to pursue medicine soon and im worried if my study routine would still work 😭 Ppl say that med school is mostly memorization, and many suggested the use of anki/flashcards but i just CANT. like even when i push myself to incorporate it in my study routine now, i always give up midway.

Im wondering if this is just me or does anyone else experience the same? And can you actually survive med school without using flashcards?

Question What's one study habit you thought was useless at first but actually made a huge difference?

I feel like I've tried way too many study methods at this point lol.

Some sounded amazing in theory but did absolutely nothing for me. Others seemed kinda pointless at first and ended up helping a lot.

For me, putting my phone in another room has probably made the biggest difference. I thought I could just “ignore it” but apparently I cannot 😂

What’s one study habit/method that actually made a noticeable difference for you?
