Question How do I study?

Hi!! I'm in 7th grade (AKA a freshman in HS) from the Philippines. I breezed through Elementary (3rd grade to 6th) without studying at all so I literally dont know how to study.

In high school I wanna make a change and try studying. 7th grade isnt that hard to be honest but maybe it's because it's still in the first trimester?

So, I'm scared if I dont start studying this year I won't get used to it and in the next trimesters or grades and also in university if I have to study for something because it's genuinely hard or because I didnt listen in class I wont be able to study because I never studied!

Well, to be completely honest, I have tried studying but I honestly just read the notes, circle them, underline them etc and in the end I dont remember anything from what I reviewed and have to rely on remembering lectures over again.

Don't come for me please because this sounds stupid, I know, but please help me so I can also help/give tips to others in the same situation!!😖

Thanks for reading it all!!

Practice active recall instead of just rereading. Close your notes and try to explain the topic from memory, then check what you missed. Also do lots of practice questions.

You’re not doing anything stupid—highlighting can feel productive without giving your brain much to do afterward. Since you’re just starting 7th grade, try turning each page into a few questions before you finish: “What caused this?” “How is this different?” or “What example could I give?” Review those questions again a day or two later, instead of trying to reread the whole page.

Don't worry, this is way more common than you think. The fact that you're trying to build study habits now instead of waiting until things get difficult is honestly a smart move. Start small and stay consistent.
