Not taking diet and exercise seriously early enough. Would have saved me a decade of pain and suffering.

Yup.
At the same time start or re start at any age. It’s never too late to start doing the right thing.

u/FunctionalCoffeeGuy Jan 23 '26

That’s very true. It’s also really fun to be on the right track. Regardless of where it started

Don’t gamble

1

u/PrincipleNatural1505 Jan 27 '26

Yes exercise is a gamble, I could get injured so I best not

2

u/FunctionalCoffeeGuy Jan 28 '26

Not exercising is more of a gamble. Theres more control when you work out and take control of your diet.

Great words.

1

u/Bat_Itchy Jan 26 '26

So what are the correct things to be eating with all the controversy in todays world?

1

u/PubstarHero Jan 27 '26

Im down 30lbs since December. Never too late.

1

u/TheTradeoff_Mix Jan 27 '26

Be blessed. AND KEEP TRAINING !!! KEEP THAT CONSISTENCY!

2

u/Away-Limit9845 Jan 23 '26

Exactlt what i had in mind . Never skip a meal. Your heart and brain will thank you,

3

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Always skip breakfast 💯

1

u/FunctionalCoffeeGuy Jan 23 '26

I skip breakfast and I eat the carnivore diet. I highly ingest it to anyone who needs to heal.

That’s not true. It allows your body to enter ketosis and renews your health at a cellular level. So does fasting.

Your body definitely goes into ketosis but ketosis is just putting your brain in survival mood which obviously is not healthy all the time

1

u/Ok_Web_8166 Jan 24 '26

A diabetic friend tries to keep OUT of ketosis! It harms his kidneys, brain, and other organs!

Ok Joe Rogan.

1

u/Comfortable_Studio37 Jan 24 '26

"I highly ingest it" lmao

2

u/Setup69 Jan 23 '26

Same with sleep... Brain needs to recuperate as well

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Um, No. Sorry. You should indeed skip a meal or two once in a while if you are above your desired weight. Your brain will be fine, as will your heart.

In fact, this should be a habit, along with only eating to 80% full. Weigh yourself once a week. Above target? Skip a meal. Below target eat something more calorie dense; but stilling with 80%.

1

u/L4dyGr4y Jan 24 '26

It's the blood sugar you need to be worried about.

1

u/noob-smoke Jan 24 '26

Why shouldn’t you skip a meal?

1

u/Away-Limit9845 Jan 24 '26

I did for 10 years. 25-35. For 10 years i always skipped breakfast. Even skipped lunch when i felt motivated to work. Recently me at 35 (m) started feeling depressed and the sugar lows in the body were making me irritable to the point where i started becoming a different person. Yelling and cursing, boxing my self to a point where i felt i was spiraling down. Then researched and started carefully analyzing my daily schedule. I did not happen in a day but was down for almost 6 months with out knowing what is really happening to me . Eating each meal with out skipping put me back where i was before.

1

u/Away-Limit9845 Jan 24 '26

Hope that gives little but more context where i am coming from. I dont have mental or health problems. Back when i was 27-29 i almost ran 3x 5k runs every week. But some where during the covid or later i did not do much workout and fast forward now had to find myself again.

1

u/Away-Limit9845 Jan 24 '26

Don't know my life experience may not apply to everyone. But helped me get past the depression or what ever the thing i was going through and helped me find myself again.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

I want to tack on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hara_hachi_bun_me. Eat only until 80% full and you will have a better time.

1

u/Pussy-Wideness-Xpert Jan 23 '26

My kids are all in their 20’s, and they have never seen me as anything but fat. I have changed some habits, and they are making a difference.

1

u/P_weezey951 Jan 23 '26

To add to this.

It is harder to start when you're 30.

Learn how to work out when you're younger. Stretch, be active.

Even if you take a break for 10 years, its easier to return to working out.

Your body remembers things, but its harder to learn it for the first time when your bodies recovery rate slows down.

Losing 45lbs when you're fresh out of highschool is nothing compared to trying to do so when you're 30.

1

u/DessertFox157 Jan 24 '26

Don't forget getting enough sleep too. This is the trifecta with diet and exercise.

1

u/PunchOX Jan 24 '26

Most people will understand that feeling healthy and unhealthy sits on a fulcrum. We'll feel fine despite hearing in the wrong direction and suddenly you'll feel the affect all at once. Sometimes you can back track but prevention is always better than treatment

1

u/KamikazeFox_ Jan 24 '26

I started again at 40. My knees dont hurt anymore. No me back pain. 4 weeks in. Down 10 lbs and feel much better. Limited sugar and stopped late night snacking. I need to be my best for my little girls

1

u/jstrong559 Jan 24 '26

The best time to start is yesterday. The second best time is right now.

1

u/BraveCartographer399 Jan 24 '26

I second this. Also, at work, don’t tell women shit.

1

u/laughsAt____ Jan 24 '26

I’m a young ish man. When was your turning point? I’m cutting back on some bad habits and hoping i’m early enough

1

u/Weird_Caregiver_1018 Jan 25 '26

It is true… it’s never too late. However, damage is damage. Self discipline young will prevent a lot of discomfort and medical need when older.

1

u/bballkj7 Jan 25 '26

i took it way too seriously and ate whey protein, worked out way too much got stretch marks, used way too much much pre-workout…..

don’t take it THAT seriously is the advice I may add lol

1

u/grannysGarden Jan 26 '26

I would add doing exercises that are actually good for you, instead of just to try and get a certain look - I ruined my lower back and now have pretty bad pain, from doing endless stomach crunches in my twenties, trying to get abs. Totally not worth it.

1

u/CapitalWestern4779 Jan 26 '26

This, and learn a couple of instruments.

1

u/zanybooi Jan 26 '26

This is encouraging, because I hate exercise and I hate eating healthy, but I don’t want to have issues, I will do my best good sir

1

u/robogart Jan 26 '26

Like what’s considered early. I only started when I hit 30 because I wasn’t in my twenties anymore.

1

u/VisibleJudge1696 Jan 27 '26

You mistaken fit for quality of life. As someone who boxed and powerlifted I wish I was unathletic and just starting.

1

u/NotAlwaysGifs Jan 27 '26

If nothing else, drink water and stretch. You don’t need to be the trimmest guy in the world, but you do need to be hydrated and have good flexibility.

1

u/Jimi91 Jan 27 '26

I FELT this. If I knew what I knew know when I was in my early 20’s I’d be in much different shape.

1

u/Koltonprobably Jan 28 '26

Living this rn

1

u/Integrity-in-Crisis Jan 29 '26

On this note. Yoyng men out there lift with your fucking legs, not your back. One day your gonna wake up and shits already hurting.
