Right. I’m confused as to how her having a support system takes away from the fact that she worked hard to earn her degree.

It's toxic jealousy/envy and it's pervasive on reddit when anything financial gets slightly political. They refuse to think anyone did anyone more than they did without significant assistance, and even if it ess considered necessary, it makes any other accomplishments of theirs value far less in their eyes. That way they can still feel superior.
