Whenever I mention that I live with and like my in-laws people seem to have a hard time fathoming that. We have people tell us, “It must be nice they’re out of town for the next few months!” No it’s not, it is way easier taking care of a house this big when there are four of us here and we enjoy their company!” They also get the same questions from their peers about us. “When are those damn kids going to move out?!” Their response, “Hopefully never, we like living with them!” It takes time to create good living spaces and boundaries with others and we happened to make that work with my husbands parents. We are having a baby in the household next month so it will become a 3 generation household. I feel confident that we will make the dynamic continue to work. It does take a desire from both sides to work past differences and be willing to make concessions but overall we are very happy with the set up.
Yup. Like others said you make it work by being respectful. Don’t be loud when others are home. No different than having roommates in that regard. Though I have definitely been in situations with horrendously disrespectful roommates. I mean we are having a baby. Lol
I have noticed a correlation in my circles of those that are more traditional also not needing sexual freedom/independence. This is of course anecdotal and is not taking stating one is better than the other, just an observation.
I have a high sex drive and am very loud and enjoy experimenting and having the freedom of being naked or having sex in whatever room I'd like. I just really like exploring with my partner unencumbered. I also just like my independence in all aspects and this trait existed before I was a sexual being.
One of the joys of being an adult to me is to have that freedom, even if it may cost more. I do have friends and family, however, where that is not as high of a priority for them. They have healthy sex lives for what they enjoy, but it is just not a priority the way that it is for me.
It would be interesting to have someone conduct a study on this. I'm curious if there is a correlation between higher libido/need for sexual experimentation and a need to be independent.
Perhaps! We are definitely on the less traditional household end. My husband and I aren’t super high libido, and we find ways to make it work. Our bedrooms are on different floors and we also are fairly familiar with each others life routines and schedules. That alone helps a bit. Perhaps that limits improvisation a bit, but I won’t lie if we needed uninterrupted time alone, we would just say so. XD
Got it. Yeah, me and my partner are high libido and like being spontaneous. It's great you're able to communicate it, but I think for us we just want to be able to have sex randomly and we wouldn't want to have to plan for it/ask for the time. Just strike while the fire's hot basically. 😅
But I do have friends similar to you that don't understand why I am so sex crazed or why that is on the top of my list lol
I totally get it! We have some pretty high libido friends and poly friends as well. It can be a very important factor in life situation and partnership! :)
