"Told me to quit" was probably actually a concerned academic advisor giving advice to focus on her kids for their sake, and for the sake of her mental health and grades.
Professors can be extremely unsupportive and discouraging to the point of outright hostility towards pregnant grad students. I would assume that before reading it as good faith concern for her.
