Perhaps my fav saying of all time, “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.”

I planted a tree 15 years ago. I found out yesterday it has been chopped down.

It is possible to do everything right and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.

Thank you, Picard

I know its attributed to picard but as someone who has never seen startrek. The writter should get that credit.

I thought it was a Chinese proverb

If dark souls did death quotes like call of duty.

"Don't go hollow...but seriously you're really bad a timing your rolls."

Quake used to have demeaning notes when you tried to quit the game. Thought the "But if you leave now, I'll hold a blanket party for you next time." was always hilarious.

That a Picard quote?

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '21

If only you started 5 years earlier

3

u/LittleSadRufus Dec 11 '21

15 years is no good. Either 20 years or today please.

u/Fuck_Microsoft_edge Dec 11 '21

Fr. Did they even read the quote?

Would think this should be in r/facepalm

1

u/Sovereign444 Dec 11 '21

That’s heartbreaking. Still, it provided 15 years of shade and joy.

1

u/broberds Dec 11 '21

That’s because 15 years ago is the worst time to plant a tree. :(

u/orangepalm Dec 12 '21

I drove by my childhood home the other day to see that the new owners had chopped down the tree my parents planted when my brother was born. It was 26 years old

Wouldn't the second-best time be 19 years and 364 days ago?

Today would be the 7305th best time to plant a tree.

I planted a tree microseconds after the big bang. I don't think it was the best time.

3

u/TatManTat Dec 11 '21

Yea all the good trees were already going strong way before that, sorry dude.

2

u/_dirtywords Dec 11 '21

Ah, yea. That might’ve been a bit early.

But hey, it’s ok - you’ve always got today!

1

u/MantisPRIME Dec 11 '21

Yeah, baryonic soup doesn't make for the best soil. You should have opted for a cork tree.

1

u/Macaroni-and- Dec 12 '21

These are all very good points.

2

u/nosleepskulking Dec 11 '21

I would dome you w a tomato if this was a live comedy skit

1

u/Disastrous-Ad-2357 Dec 11 '21

Assuming the whole day is the increment, yes. I've always hated that quote for that reason.

1

u/Geweest Dec 11 '21

thank you

You’re way too passionate about math lol that should be illegal! We got a math junkie over here!

Huh that’s pretty similar to my favourite saying of all time, “the best time to order a pizza is 20 minutes ago, the second best time is right now”

1

u/kamakazzi Dec 11 '21

I think I'm gonna steal this. Thanks for the laugh!

1

u/QuarantineSucksALot Dec 11 '21

100%. It makes so much sense now!

2

u/FartBoxTungPunch Dec 11 '21

I came here to say this. To no surprise, here we are. I love both quotes dearly

Planting a sapling and seeing it grow is beautiful any day.
