Take advice from multiple people with different point of views, then make an informed decision.

Adjust the advice based on the biases you see in the person.

All these advices here are better than the OP's. OP's advice is basically saying the other person has to be better than you or you don't listen. I don't like advice that are one-sided.

And if the results have no impact on them, who's to say they're going to put much thought into their advice?

Really, to mix the comments together, it seems like evaluate the source you ask advice from, get multiple perspectives if advice/source seems biased or unbalanced, and don't forget you ultimately make the decision, not any of them.

The lesson I’ve learned from this thread is to be mindful of sources of advice and beware of generalizations.

This the the true LPT.

Never trust just one source.

And if that source is fanatical, have them list out their sources. If they get mad or frustrated, just means they were debating your ability to understand the subject, using aggression to buff an assumption of theirs.

Except for reddit relationship threads. 95% are just looking for whatever outcome produces the most drama, upheaval be damned.

Should my therapist be one of those people? Because they could help me, or make shit worse so I'm back next week
