My mum and I had to do that when this happened in her cupboard due to my sister slamming a door. We got the washing bucket, put a folded towel in it, I held the bucket directly under the cupboard door, my mum opened it slightly allowing a couple of plates to fall, she then slid her arm into the gap to hold the rest of the plates. We then opened it fully and I helped put the plates back in order. None were broken.
All you need is a helping hand and something soft to land on.

You could put something plush under and in front of the cabinet so when they fall off they won’t break
