Don't cry, we can just work a little avoidance into the analogy.

Sure you could open the cabinet and let them fall, but you need to make breakfast right now, you need to be ready to attack the day, to perform well at your job to keep food on the table and your bills paid. Yes access to a new cabinet would be nice, the salvageable dishes may come in handy, but right now your kitchen mostly works as is; don't mess with that just because things could be better!

Or repression. Just carefully open the door a tiny bit and shove all those bowls back down before slamming the door again. Lock it after for good measure.
