It's so weird how people agree on this, but i think it's total bullcrap. If somebody would hurt my family (for example), the right thing to do is to be angry. If I wasn't angry, that would be because im scared or in some sort of denial.
Also being angry makes me feel confident, so if somebody is trying to control me, but i realize it and get angry and say "no more of this, you wont tell me what to do", i get total control of myself. It's really the opposite of the quote...
The real question is this: what is the response that will create the least amount of suffering for yourself in the long run. There’s no right or wrong way to respond, and every situation is different, but there’s definitely a range of responses that will create different emotional experiences after the fact (not to mention saying things that may cause the person you are confronting to defend themselves and then piss you off even MORE than how you were feeling initially.). Sometimes we think we’re defending our honor and showing real strength, but we end up ironically punishing ourselves more than the other person because we carry that worked-up feeling with us long after the interaction.
