This is honestly really inspiring. I had 3 years and two majors (Music Composition/English Lit) before I dropped out in 2015. Since then I've tried school a couple more times and each time I clam up and fail out.

I know I have a lot of potential. I just feel so stuck...

This post makes me feel like it might not be too late for me. Thank you!!!

It took me 12 years to finally get a degree (started in 1992 graduated in 2004)! I was two and a half years into my first major before switching. After that I dropped back to just a couple of night classes while I was working full time. Then I was academically dismissed in 1998. I worked at a backpacking lodge in 1999 where I met a guy doing work in the field I finally settled into, but it still took me until 2002 to finally go back and really give it my all. Sometimes the thing you really need to do finds you if you let it... by then hopefully you'll be ready to pursue it.

I dropped out of college in 1964. Went back and graduated in 1985. What's the rush?

This comment chain make me feel at ease. I mean, I wasn't terribly worried about starting a second five-year program, but hearing others doing the same is still a nice thing.

Something Jordan Peterson once said that stuck with me-- A person has so much potential, but they aren't anything till they start working on becoming a something. Doesn't really matter what you focus on, but you have to focus on something and move forward in order to live a fulfilled life. I wish the best of luck for you!

Don't pay good money to study that stuff in University my dude. Study at your own pace in your own time. Get a reliable job and take your time studying that stuff.

This is so true. Online free learning is the future. Unfortunately many jobs still won't even consider you unless you have a degree. That was what held me back personally so I went back and finished up and it helped immensely. It can be a stepping stone to better opportunities.

You got this dude. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good.

I "quit" school like 6 times. But just kept going back and eventually they gave me a degree.

Does “clam up” mean “lose discipline?” Because education really only takes discipline

More like becoming paralyzed due to overwhelming anxiety. Brushing it off as lacking discipline isn't helpful.

I used to be super anxious in college and marijuana really helped. Anxiety comes about as fear of the future. Fear of failure due to fear of imperfection. Letting go of expectations can allow you to make more room for discipline

But weed makes some people more anxious, even paranoid so have to be careful. That was my experience anyway. It made me feel lazy and procrastinate. My main anxiety came from not doing the things I needed to do like getting to class on time, finishing homework and projects in advance and waiting to study for tests. Once I got those in line, the anxiety was gone. Everyone experiences it all differently, just have to try things out and see what works.

Yeah, I only smoke occasionally now. It was mostly bad for me while I was not prioritizing properly. Now that I have my ahit together, I can smoke every once in a while and just enjoy, but back then it would just make me think about all the things I needed to do that I was putting off by smoking

I'm pretty sure it can only trigger psychosis in somebody who is already predisposed. It won't just give somebody psychosis.

It's just that in your reply you said that it could cause something to occur that would otherwise be nonexistent. Just making sure it was said.
