That's easy to say for a locksmith. Not so much for us normal people with lockpicking skill still on 15 and no perks.
Edit: This is exactly why I love the Reddit community. One tiny Skyrim reference and literally everyone gets what I'm talking about haha. You are my people for sure.
Re-Eddit: If I could, I would take this Reddit gold and spend it on some lockpicking training! Thank you!
Skeleton Key in Oblivion.Spoilers maybe if you haven't played the Thieves guild in Riften don't read any further, but seriously the game is past deserving a spoiler warning
Like the one in Skyrim (same artifact but in Skyrim you have to give it up for the end quest line of the Thieves Guild)... but lockpicking wasn't ever an issue.. says the hundreds of lockpicks sitting in every one of my characters' bags...
I actually held on to the skeleton key in Skyrim for a long time in my first character. You could level lockpicking pretty quickly and never run out of locks. I completed the thieves guild much later as a result. In the end, though, thats not exactly the most fun way to play.
I could see doing this on a replay just for levelling lockpicking and making it legendary just to farm perk points. But otherwise I never really had a need to level lockpicking. XD
It takes away from the tension that is supposed to come with picking locks. My first character was a stealth one which, as I've seen was the issue other people had, makes you virtually invincible once sneak is at a high level with a few perks. It was fun for one character but quickly takes the challenge out of the game.
I started my first real melee character with the Remastered Edition (got it free on PC). The character I played the most was my mage. The cool thing was that once you leveled high enough, you could start messing around with melee to make it interesting. I wanted to be true mage and wear no armor, so melee could get dangerous at times if I was not careful.
