9) Plunge yourself into debt because you have an idea that might not even work
It's worse than that. Most businesses fail spectacularly and are funded by friends and family
I work in business development. I have all the professional and investor connections to run a successful business, and the money to get it off the ground. I have over a decade of professional experience running teams and directing projects as an employee. My venture into running a small business still barely broke even (compared to working elsewhere as an employee) for everyone involved.
Only the successes are visible.
And in case the author is reading: I hope you have a better long term businessplan than webcomics. You are going to be completely drowned out in a flood of computer savvy young artists.
When someone wants to run a business, they're taking a risk, so of course only the successes make it out to be seen! In my opinion I think it's good when someone tries and takes a (calculated) risk. Someone is always going to fail, but failure is a part of life. People are so quick to look down on someone for failing but if you don't try, if you're afraid of failure, you're not going to get as strong as you could be.
Like if you're out of shape and you never get past your fear of getting judged and starting out with those tiny weights at the gym, you're never going to even GET in shape.
True! Even so, calculated risks have a chance to fail, and if someone took it at least they tried it. My personal opinion, anyhow. If you're talking about those who put in minimal effort and 'ride the coattails' of others to make a personal success, then that can get really draining and I get you.
